To be fair, the allegation of assault with a racial element which he was charged with at Aberdeen Sheriff Court was dropped without ever going to trial. That said, I understand that he was released due to personality issues rather than playing ability.

Tough call but on balace I would go with Esson. We are fortunate to have two competent 'keepers.

We might have signed someone had we the income from a league cup final. Saturday's defeat probably makes that much less likely.

If the club have indeed capitulated without seeing evidence that the ban was served at a specific match then I am more than disappointed.If that is the case, they have let the fans down extremely badly.

I am assuming before Butcher made that statement that the club have now been furnished with evidence that the ban was served in a specific match. Surely; that evidence should now be placed in the public domain, Even if that is the case, the ban was imposed by the SFA and was competition specific. Breathtaking arrogance on the part of the English FA, to ignore that just because they don't operate similar rules.

Unless the SFA can provide written records from their English counterparts proving that the ban was served at a specific fixture then there is no doubt whatsoever that Danny Wilson was ineligible and should not have played. As has been pointed out in this thread, it was hardly as if he was a bit player in the match making crucial contributions at both ends of the pitch. Even with St Mirren, rather than Celtic, making the final this gaffe has the potential to cost the club in excess of quarter of a million pounds and should not be left to rest now, certainly not on the bland statement of an unnamed SFA spokesman not backed up by a shred of proof.

Should not read anything into the opinion of Ewan Murray aka Squirrel. Just read his match report in the Observer. One paragraph reads " It was an embarrassment for Inverness as a city, Caledonian Thistle as a club and Scottish football in general that such a pitifully low number of supporters arrived for (sic) the north for this game. It marked only a second appearance for Inverness in a national semi-final. Butcher's work deserves greater recognition from supporters"

For the first time find myself in agreement with the rodent journalist. Danny Wilson's dismissal against St Mirren was a straight red so he would have served his suspension in the next league match.
