  1. You obviously don't dislike him as much as I do!
  2. I am sure the OP's spelling was a witty reference to the fact that the last time Dundee had any success was pre-Madonna.
  3. Aggie, Aggie - who the feck is Aggie ?? The patron Saint of Dungwall
  4. Cialis eh! Something's definately up.
  5. [shudders] Perhaps he's coming back in the summer to lead our line in the SPL, having shown yesterday that he can still do it just as effectively as he did with us before. Yes, I heard that as well. Presumably the commentator found it hard to believe County would have actually paid money for him.
  6. Whilst the Dundee Utd team were touring Dundee in an open top bus, a number of the County Team were considering throwing themselves under one. Apparently Andy Barrowman was standing on the road outside his house waiting for a bus so he could end his misery. Finally a bus came and when the it was just 6 feet away he launched himself at it - and missed.
  7. I am pleased to say my neighbour has a sense of humour. Rather than take his flag down he has it flying at half mast today!
  8. You keep the dunce's hat on until you can tell me where Cowdenbeath is.
  9. Yawn..............................I am glad they lost, somehow i doubt dundee fans wanted to united to win so why would i want county to win. I am just sad it wasnt 6-0 I didn't say I wanted County to win. The thing is, we can have fierce rivalry without it turning vitreolic. Having respect for our rivals and sharing good humoured banter makes the rivalry so much more enjoyable IMHO.
  10. Don't know if anybody else has commented on this but I was noticing that Rooney picked up only 1 yellow card all season. For a player who plays the way he does and puts constant pressure on defenders, I think that is a pretty remarkable record. It just goes to show what a fair player the lad is. Well done Adam!
  11. Back to one of my favourite subjects. Barrowman - why? If County wanted to win the cup why did they pick him? Apart from having a weak shot blocked in the first half he made virtually zero contribution to the game . County hardly threatened anything and part of the problem for them was that Barrowman simply did not make himself available and he never put pressure on defenders except for his habit of pushing defenders in the back after they had got to the ball before him. And on the rare occasions county did get down the flanks he was never remotely in position to get in front of or between defenders to get on the end of a low ball into the centre - and he was never going to get the high ones. He was totally out of his depth but was on for the full 90 minutes - it was such an inept performance I almost started feeling sorry for the lad. His presence did, however lead to a nice bit of commentary... "County have got Craig who can score goals, they've got Brittain who can score goals and they've got Barrowman...."
  12. Putting aside who ICT fans should have supported, I think the fact that County got to the final was great for football. It is days like this that live on in the memory and do so much for the community. I actually live in the Black Isle and, I'm sorry to say, you can see Ross County's ground from the house and many of the neighbours are keen County supporters. I have to say that this cup run has done wonders for community spirit and has really captured the public imagination. There's an elderly neighbour at the end of our lane who has erected a 20' flag pole with a County flag fluttering proudly in the breeze and this is just an example of the way this has affected people. You can't really help but be happy for them that they got to the final. They will have great memories of the cup run and why begrudge them that? For all the rivalry, County supporters are basically the same sort of folk as ICT supporters are (OK, perhaps a bit fonder of sheep than we are) but for me the joy that fans get from their team performing above their level and tasting the big time is what the cup is all about. Having said that, I can't say I was sorry to see Utd take the lead and go on to win today. I am happy for County fans to have enjoyed their cup run but there are limits! What I was disappointed about was the dismal performance by County. I felt County had a genuine chance but after all the hype they never turned up and that must have been a real disappointment for their fans. I would have liked to see them play well and give a good account of themselves. Yes they've had a great run, but the impression we are left with is that they flattered to deceive. County had an opportunity to showcase to the nation how good the standard in the SFL is. The nation will be left thoroughly underwhelmed and the County fans will be left without the consolation of being able to say that despite the loss, the team played well. As the fans drive past an SPL ground towards the end of their long journey home tonight they should be in no doubt as to who the best team in the Highlands is.
  13. If Ross-shire folk who are not going to Hampden wish to see the cup I suggest they follow the A835 to Tore, then follow the A9 to Perth and then join the M90/A90 to Dundee. That is where the cup will be.
  14. I heard that Andy Barrowman never got to vote. He was in the polling station at 8.30 in the evening but after a full 90 minutes was still unable to do anything with a cross in the box.
  15. Where would sport be without this 'rivalry suff' ........... it's an integral part of every sport and least not football. Has to be C*unty winning the Scottish Cup, the aftermath would fizzle out eventually unlike England winning the World Cup. Look at how '66 crops up in everything and not just football County winning the Scottish Cup would never fizzle out and would only ever be tolerable if we were to better the achievement. Surely for those who do not want England to win the World Cup, winning it would only add a little on top of the existing gloating by the same people whereas as County winning would be a whole new crowd of folk gloating over something different. Just how much misery do you want to inflict upon yourselves?
  16. Great. I can save myself 2 rail fares and brush up on my Gaelic.
  17. A lib dem / labour coalition supported by the nationalists is a possibility and highlights the absurdity of our current electoral system. With just one Tory MP in Scotland it could be that legislation on Health, Education etc is pushed through due to the support of MPs representing constituencies where these subjects have no relevance because they are devolved matters in Wales and Scotland. Of course, having got the most votes the Tories will be crying "foul" but maybe they should be crying "fowl" as it will be the chickens coming home to roost. If the English Tories had any concept of what democracy actually means we would have had electoral reform a long time ago and they would not be in this mess now. The Tories should be offering the Lib Dems PR in exchange for support for legislation to prevent Scottish and Welsh MPs voting on devolved matters. We could then have an election based on democratic principles.
  18. I wouldn't criticise Munro at all - he's been a great servant to the club - but I think it makes sense to have the captain in a midfield role where he can influence the entire team and is more likely to be in a position to share a few words with players as and when required. Separate from the captain's role you need a leader in defence to ensure the back four play as a unit. There is no reason Munro can't continue to do that and arguably he would do it better without the added responsibility of being captain. Foran would be my choice - provided he agrees to extend his contract!
  19. Spot on, Johnboy. With Imrie and Jonny on fire causing mayhem on the wings, Rooney in the middle and Foran coming from deeper to latch on to cut backs a la lampard we'd have an attacking force that you strike fear into any of the SPL defences. Without Imrie we're still good but will need a little more cutting edge to challenge for top six.
  20. There's a certain logic to this ABE movement. On the rare occasions Scotland have reached the finals, Scots fans have been used to supporting a team that loses. With Scotland not there the ABE movement not only allows the fans to get their fix of seeing the team they are supporting lose, it also allows them to continue this masochistic pleasure beyond the group stages. It would be nice to think the majority of Scots would support England but I'm know that is not going to happen. I accept that many, if not most Scots will not be supporting England but it would be so much more positive if they supported the team playing the most attractive football instead. This is, after all, meant to be the world's showcase of the beautiful game.
  21. Our electoral system stinks. It is totally wrong that a party that attracts a minority even of those who bother to vote can have an overall majority of seats within Parliament and push forward whatever ill considered proposals it likes and get them enshrined in law. It stinks even more in that minority parties attracting less than 10% of the popular vote will usually not have any representation at all in a chamber of over 630 representatives. Those people become completely disenfranchised. And remember, this is not a tiny minority of "fringe" views that are not being heard in parliament, it is the views of several million people. This why this election has been really good for two reasons. Firstly there is the election of the Green's leader Caroline Lucas. Winning a seat in a hotly contested first past the post election is a quite astonishing achievement. And whilst the Greens will remain hugely under represented in terms of quantity, Ms Lucas will make up for it in terms of quality. She has been on Question Time a few times and eloquently demolishes the myth that the Green Party are only concerned about environmental issues. The second reason is that with a hung parliament there is now a chance for the big two to get a dose of their own medicine and be on the receiving end of somebody else's disproprtionate amount of power. Nick Clegg is now the power broker here and has a glorious opportunity to help introduce true democracy into our parliamentary system. Rather than enter into any kind of sordid coalition, Nick Clegg should be telling Cameron that until Cameron sets a date for a new election under a PR system, the Lib Dems will vote against everything the Tories try to push through unless there is a complelling need to support it in the national interest. We might then have an election where people can vote for the party which best represents their views rather than for the party which they feel has the best chance of stopping the one they least like. It will also mean that we have a parliament which truly represents the views of the electorate. Let's hope Nick Clegg can act with the courage and humilty to finally deliver democracy to the UK and not with greedy self interest in accepting some position in a seedy coalition.
  22. Were you there? No. Sadly it clashed with the local pensioners' day trip to Margate.
  23. Saw the highlights on the BBC website - what a cracking goal to make it 6-6. Also click onto the link for the radio commentry - great stuff. And how I laughed at the sight of Motherwell fans heading for the exits when it went to 6-2! :021: As for records, there was a 7-7 draw in the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup in 1929 when Dulwich Hamlets played Wealdstone. What is really remarkable here is that 7 years earlier Dulwich Hamlets also conceded 7 goals at the same stage of the competition. But on that occasion they actually won when they scored 8 against St Albans!
  24. How do these rumours start? Terry was in a bar and someone asked him if he was in for his usual red wine. He said "No, I'm in for a wee nip today" and the next thing you know Mizumo all but has the number 7 shirt on his back.
