Save Whin Park and the Canal pitches
12th Man replied to TheresNoEsInBlack's topic in Serious Discussion
Instead of increasing the amount of crossings why dont we reduce the number of bridges across the river. This will give more excitement, it will make the crossing more competitive and will of course encourage more people to use bridges. Mr Doncaster. -
Save Whin Park and the Canal pitches

I think it would be far too expensive to design a working wheel suitable for our requirements, the Falkirk wheel joins 2 canals of different heights, does not have traffic passing below it, has height restrictions so no sail boats can use it and is used by small tug boats infrequently and a tourist boat. Its a clever efficient design but if I'm being honest I would say its a loss making attraction. -
Taken from the BBC Website Looks like another 'grand' idea is about to fall through. Any team in the 1st division with ambition wont vote for a 10 team SPL either I assume the 10 team SPL general agreement is the same general agreement that we had when 3 clubs didnt agree. Scottish regional league idea fails to win support By Jim Spence Proposals to regionalise the lower divisions in the Scottish Football League are dead. The Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football Association presented their vision to the 30 SFL clubs at Hampden on Thursday. But one leading Third Division club spokesman told BBC Scotland: "Clubs want to play in a Scottish league, not a regional set up. "The proposal has gone. It is dead in the water." The SPL's 12 clubs reached a broad agreement in February to move towards a new 10-club top-tier and a second tier of 12 encompassing the SFL's current Division One sides. After formulating its proposals, the SPL promised to consult the SFA and SFL. I'm not sure there is any appetite for the pyramid system from the clubs outside the SFL Third Division source And regionalisation of the leagues below was a feature of the recent SFA-commissioned report into the professional game by former First Minister Henry McLeish. However, at this week's meeting, there appears to have been no demand among clubs in Divisions One, Two and Three to change the current national league set-up at that level. There are also doubts over the introduction of a pyramid system, which was also aired in the McLeish report. That would allow clubs from the Juniors, the Highland League and the East of Scotland League entry to the SFL via regionalised leagues. One spokesman for a Third Division club said: "There is nothing imminent. "I'm not sure there is any appetite for the pyramid system from the clubs outside the SFL. "We are in a consultation period just now with the SPL about their views for the game and we will canvas opinion to see whether there is interest in a pyramid system. "But I'm not sure there is any real interest"

I think he may be a manager of few words. I heard that he didnt speak to some players for days at Aberdeen(must have been for not playing well enough in his eyes), If he wont even speak to Aberdeen players then why would he want to speak to County players. His next words at County may be 'Bye I'm away on my summer holidays'

How about playing benny hill music if the opposition decide to come out at half time a bit early

Save Whin Park and the Canal pitches

All of the options seem to be a low level swing bridge built in tandem with with the existing to keep the movement of traffic constant. This will be one of the biggest most expensive white elephants in the councils history. There is nothing to suggest that any of the proposed routes will save any time for the majority of traffic and the existing routes will still be taken . What about bridges between Dochfour and Dochgarroch and link with the dores mains road on the south west side of holm mains, it could follow the tree line along fields and build embankments to cut down on noise and visibility of traffic. The bridges would then cross where the canal and river are at more equal heights this would effectively reduce journey times open up the loch ness tourist circuit, allow traffic to flow more smoothly as the adjacent swing bridge plan will just encourage bottlenecks. With embankments and tree planting in 20 years the new roads and bridges should blend in beautifully at that location and really will open up transport links for the future. This would equate to the same length of new road being created as the short sighted tandem bridge crossing but would be in a more efficient location. -

We have heard that a tunnel would be too expensive and a bridge would be too high, now they cant even put the bridge in the correct location. If it meant putting a bridge close to the original, upsetting all the residents in Dores road with wall rattling HGVs passing by, heavier traffic and losing a beautiful tranquil park, perfect for getting youngsters outside with the family and away from the temptation of vandalism and worse, which happens when there is nowhere to go.Then I would rather the whole idea was scrapped until the A9-A96 link road is put in place, instead of just chucking money away. The council seem to bow down to the wealthy who dont want to see a bridge in the distance from their expensive homes and to hell with the majority who will have heavy traffic right on their doorstep and a beautiful tranquil park lost forever. Considering we dont have the volume of traffic as the Clyde tunnel nor do we have the need to build a bridge high enough for ocean built racing yachts to pass under them, then my solution would be to build a swing bridge that is high enough to let motor cruisers pass below and allow walkers and cyclists to follow the canal unimpeded and open the bridge for higher vessels causing minimal disruption and put it in the most sensible place. -
Did you spot the mozzarella formation maybe a clue for Saturday

Dear Mister Donkey, You just dont understand. Giving clubs enough cash to agree to being relegated is like paying a boxer to throw a game and saying "its ok you will be better off" Its the clubs right, the managers right and its the players right, to do the best they possibly can for the honor and integrity of their club, themselves and their fans. Asking them to join a lower league for money is not the way. Where is the honor in asking clubs to leave the very best league in Scotland for money, how can a fan respect their club for selling out. This scenario reminds me of scene from Brave heart when William Wallace was waiting for the clan chiefs and their men to join the fight and they held back, those clan chiefs sold their honor for personal gain. So far, there are 3 club chiefs and their fans in this league who can stand tall, stand proud and say we wont be bought. FREEDOM.

I was planning going to the stadium to watch ICT pummel Utd for the rearranged fixture. Anyone fancy it.

These types of stories will become more common if 3 teams are removed from the SPL, not an assumption, its highly likely. Well, for the ones who want to attempt to get back in again anyway.

On a Sunday ? as least it keeps one of the old firm in the competition for an extra day.
-
A few rivets, chewing gum and duct tape and he will be fine.
-
Think we have our wires crossed, I now see you were mentioning a cup game a few years ago, where my point of reference was our fixture list for this season.
-
If thats the case our next game will be at Hampden.
-
I like that train of thought, we have kind of ruined it really for the winner of the old firm game, knowing that the winner has to travel up to the dreaded Highlands and play us in our homeland.

If you have concerns regarding getting a ticket, there are various ways to jump the queue, with any of those mentioned below. Buy a half season ticket for the rest of the season( wont be as dear as you think and will hopefully include another OF match after the split)and 10% off goods in the club shop. Join the supporters club, will also get reduced bus travel to the away matches which will be handy as the away support swell in numbers as the split looms, may come in handy too for the trip to Hampden for the semi. Supporters trust. Centenary club. Buy shares. By joining any of the above you will be able to buy a ticket before they go on sale to the general public. 12th Man......pp.. Florence the cow

The replay is the 2nd of March so the Utd v Grrrs game will have to be moved.

Bit disrespectful to Dunfermline is it not Good spot, Alex.... That's probably how he beat you to the post. Not entirely, I was watching the draw on a stream on the interweb when it froze after Aberdeen name was read out, when I refreshed ICT were drawn and the rest as they say is history. Still, what did disappoint me was that I put a topic in the forum about five minutes before the draw, yet some nutters still managed to create their own topic.........and one of them was even a moderator. I know its a pity people are so keen to start a topic without checking. tut, tut.

I think more could have turned up but they didnt and I wont lose any sleep over it.Its money over and above a season ticket and its soon after Christmas so some may be feeling the pinch. Full house for the next round though and as mentioned before if all fans turned up there wouldnt be enough seats to go round.

Who ever Butcher sees as the best keeper to go through to the next round.

Whens the replay? I was looking at Rangers fixtures and unless its next week, it will have to be played a few days before the QFs on the 9th, unless the UTD v Rangers game is canceled on 3rd March and is played then instead. Meaning the next available space would be the 9th March against UTD. 12/2 R v Well 17/2 R v Sporting 20/2 Celic v R 24/2 Sporting v R 27/2 R v ST J 3/3 Utd v R 6/3 St M v R 12/3 Cup qfs 20/3 Celic v R BBC sport are quoting early March, Extra time and penalties would suit us a few days before the QF
