  3. I'd have him too. I'm sure he has another season or two as a player, and he could do a job for us.
  4. Yes, Richard rarely seems to get the credit he deserves on our forum, but he seems to be a regular in the Canada team which has performed pretty decently whilst he has played for them. Well done.
  5. Brewster scouring lower English Leagues for players has led me to wonder how the leagues compare. Here's my take on it. I'm sure others will have different views - SPL Rangers/Celtic about mid table English Premiership (about Blackburn's level in my view) SPL other 'big' teams eg Hibs, Dundee U, Motherwell (maybe on this year's perfomance),Aberdeen - mid/lower Championship SPL rest (including us!) - English Div 1 SFL 1 (top 5) - lower Eglish Div1 or Div 2 SFL 1 (bottom 5) - English Div 2 SFL 2 (top 5) - lower Eng Div 2 SFL 2 (bottom 5) - Conference SFL3 - Regional conference and below
  6. To be fair, the guy has gone up a level now in England. I doubt very much whether we could afford players from England at a much higher level. Championship players will be on thousands per week, and I would suspect that even Div 1 teams and the better Div 2 teams pay at least what we do (maybe with one or two exceptions, eg Marius). So I don't think Brew has much option than to scour the lower leagues in the hope of finding a bargain, perhaps not yet spotted by anyone else.
  7. Brilliant! The last nagging little doubt removed so now I'm looking forward to supporting Romania wholeheartedly. Hope we are going to be able to watch their matches somehow on TV here.
  8. Let's have another look after Marius scores 2 or 3 goals in Euro 2008!
  9. I suspect that it might be from our Bells Cup win.
  10. In keeping with the majority of ICT supporters, I presume, I'll be supporting Romania, especially if Marius is involved. They certainly have a tough group though.

We won't reach top six, and stay there, without becoming much more professional in every way. That means spending money. If we want to be a bottom six SPL side, fighting relegation every other year, then fine, stay as we are. I know it may be considered a high risk strategy, but I feel it could be worth it and I'd love to see us drop the Highland League mentality, and give it a real go.
  12. Crowd was 40odd thousand, split pretty well 50/50 between the 2 clubs. Atmosphere was OK. What Wembley do is close off the top tier, so you don't get the impression that stadium is less than half full.

I've always said that Brew should have until the end of next season. What I'd like to see is a really experienced Director of Football to support him. Someone who really knows the game, and is respected by the bigger clubs. I don't mean John Robertson. Someone like Craig Brown or maybe even Terry Butcher. I'm sure someone of that calibre, not only would be a good sounding board for Brew, but would have the standing to attract decent players north.
  14. Just back from Wembley after seeing Exeter just about deserve their victory and gain their place back in Football League. Great stadium by the way, even half full. I'm sure Exeter will do well in Div 2. They have a good set up now, after tremendous boardroom problems a few years ago. Watch them fly! They're sponsored by Flybe, like us!
  15. BBC site working at last, very slowly!

Yes, RIP Tommy. I had a look on the Reading FC fans forum today, and it is nice to see that there are scores of condolence messages on there, even though its fair to say most Reading fans thought he was a very poor manager in his spell with them.
  17. Celtic fans behaved impecably in seville...... not just in comparison to the huns last night! I am embarrased to be Scottish today. BAN RANGERS! I don't normally take sides when it comes to the old 'infirm'. But judging from what I saw on TV etc, I think a ban for Rangers is in order. By sheer coincidence my wife and I were in Seville (not for the football) with some friends when Celtic played there. I have to say that all the Celtic fans we saw did behave impeccably. The ones who were in our hotel were great fun and even were quite gracious when I felt it necessary to remind them of Feb 8 2000.
  18. My English club, Exeter City, are in the Blue Square Conference play off final at Wembley on Sunday v Cambridge. Guess who is going to be there cheering them on? That'll be my first visit to the 'new' Wembley, so I'm really looking forward to it.
  19. Me too. I think Maddy's view is naive, bordering on pathetic
  20. I've only seen Zander live once, at the beginning of last season when he came on against Dunfermline, at home. I thought he looked great on that occasion, and was surprised he didn't get many other opportunities in the first team. I still have high hopes for him.
  21. I tend to agree with Blackieforce that we shouldn't be discussing this while Brew is still in place. But some of the suggestions already made on here are laughable. On his appoinment I felt that Brew should be given time to get things right, probably up to the end of next season, and I still feel this way. It would appear that the powers that be are thinking along similar lines, for I can't see Brew being replaced in the short term.
  22. I've said on other threads that unfortunately I think we've seen the best of Denzil, and I can't see him hacking it for anyone else at SPL level. To be honest, apart from one good spell he had for about 2 or 3 months alongside Dargo a couple of seasons ago, I think that, generally, he has been a disappointment since he came back from Hearts. His best days for us were clearly in the lower divisions.
  23. I moved to Hilton when I was about 11. Prior to that we lived in a tied house behind one of the big nursing homes on Island Bank Road, where my Dad was Head Gardener. Fortunately I'd started supporting Caley before I moved, otherwise I might have ended up supporting Thistle, as many of my friends in Hilton did.
  24. Statistics are like a newly painted lamppost, illuminating, but not to be leant on!
  25. As I have said on Brewster threads before, I was not pro his coming back last year. However, once here I felt he should be given a decent crack of the whip, and in my opinion that is until the end of the 2008/09 season. I have maintained this view consistently, even through the dark days of the long run of defeats and the problems with Black, and Wyness's contract, when many on here would have cheerfully strung him up, let alone sack him. Now that we seem to be picking up a bit, albeit against the poorer teams, I see no reason to change my mind. I hope he is able to keep Marius, and strengthen the squad with a decent forward to play alongside him, and equally important sign a decent defender (to replace McGuire ?). I would also like to see him persuade Zibi to stay, otherwise he'll need a goalkeeper as well.
