  1. Agree with your logic and reasoning but can also argue the opposite point of view .... that is the conundrum .... The first five or six games can define your season so is it better to act swiftly or to wait? After 6 games if we are down the wrong end, not scoring goals and 10 points or more behind the top six it can be really hard mentally to close that gap and we might spend the rest of the season in a dogfight. Alternatively, if we get in the required pieces of the puzzle and start to win and score goals then confidence soars, morale rises and fans and players alike enjoy the ride (like last year) .... finishing a single place higher in the table than we would of without those players could wipe out the outlay in your figures above (based on £70K per place) I am all for prudence and fiscal responsibility and I know our club is well run in that respect after surviving a few scares in the early years ... but if we do indeed have a rainy day fund then perhaps its time to use at least a portion of it ..... Between now and the end of the month we play Hamilton and Partick, who could well be teams we need to finish above if we want to stay out of trouble, and we also play Dundee & St Johnstone who are likely to be rivals to our more loftier ambitions. A watching brief now could at best result in a season of mid-table mediocrity, and at worst leave us well and truly behind the 8-ball. We find ourselves in extraordinary circumstances injury-wise, and I think if funds are there then the board needs to recognise the situation we find ourselves in and the importance of a solid start to the season.
  2. His distribution was terrible. He was arguably Astras best player, even if you ignore his assist for the goal. Certainly wouldn't pick him over Wedderburn on the basis of the Astra games. Thought Wedderburn looked pretty solid in all senses.
  3. Second that. The organisation of the transfers to and from Giurgiu was top notch. Well done, and many thanks!
  4. Partisan atmosphere? Would that not be in Belgrade rather than Bucharest?
  5. Thats fine if there's movement ahead. If not, the opposition just compress the space and you end up either going back or long. Last night there wasn't enough movement up front.
  6. Disappointing result. Don't think we deserved to lose, but we need some bite up front. Seemed a strange decision to throw Fon Wiiliams in for this one, seemed OK, but I think he'd probably like to face the free kick again. He also had a Jamie MacDonald moment in the first half, but fortunately he pushed it away hard enough to beat the on rushing attacker. I thought he'd made a good save near the end, but I think it actually hit the post Warren snd Devine played pretty well together at the back, although Devine gave the keeper a nasty, bouncy back pass to deal with. Meekings seemed off the pace, particularly after his performances at right back at the end of last season. Williams had a decent game at left back. The midfield confused me. Wedderburn, Draper and Tansey are all too similar in style. Thought Wedderburn did ok, Draper had a stinker, not least conceding that cheap free kick. Tansey just did what he does, but slightly further forward, and I'm not sure why he was MoM - certainly wasn't for his ridiculous dive in the first half. Doran was probably our biggest goal threat, with a scuffed shot in the first half, a placed shot that the keeper saved just inside his post and a more powerful shot that I thought the keeper had let go through him for a moment. Christie had a decent game. Up front, Lopez's best work was done outside the box - not what you need from you striker. He had one good chance, but the shot lacked conviction. The subs didn't get long enough to judge, but it was good to see Foran back. On the basis of tonight, we are not out of this tie by any means. With a bit more sharpness we might have done something with some of the balls into the box. However, we need to make more effective use of width, as we spent too much time trying to play through the middle, which isn't going to work. The he one down side was that we reverted to passing the ball sideways for long periods again. It was a bit like the second half of season 2013-14 again at times. At the start of the second half, when we started to move the ball forward with a bit of pace, we looked like we might cause some problems. I thought the ref had a decent game. Certainly not over officious, and didn't buy the worst of the Romanian play acting. Land I reckon there were 25 away fans - I counted them during a bit of dying-swan routine near the end.

  8. Would you expect him to say anything different?
  9. When the national team start rewarding our players performances by picking them for the national team, I might start listening to this guff.
  10. Clubs employ accountants to minimise the amount of tax they have to pay, and private limited companies tend to produce accounts containing the least information legally required. To give more than that would be commercially naive. ....except Rangers, who are allowed to ride rough-shod over all regulations because "we need them back in the top flight". They still have to play by the legal rules - failing to do so led to their administration and liquidation. As far as the rules and regs of Scottish football are concerned, their interpretation is somewhat inconsistent depending on who has broken them. But I suppose the thought of Armageddon and Civil Unrest can make people behave irrationally.
  11. That's a bold statement given that ground capacity is only 8,500 and we took 15,000 to our last away game! They use the same system as Elgin for controlling capacity. Any truth in the rumour that Giurgiu looks like Elgin? Can we maybe not upset them this early?
  12. and come out the victors. boom boom! Of corsa there's Vauxhall funny about this
  13. indeed, simile, metaphor etc should not always be taken literally, but if you use words that can have both a literal and figurative meaning within the same context, then you are going to cause confusion. Perhaps you would like Queens Park to resign from the SPFL forthwith, given that they are (literally) a bunch of amateurs? How can they possibly compete in a professional league? If you are trying to equate amateur with poorly run, then I think you have got your head up your backside. One of the biggest professional clubs in Scotland has been one of the worst run from a footballing point view for a number of years. I'll give you this - you've managed to unite Caley and Thistle fans a lot more quickly than the merger did!
  14. Accounts are employed for the reason that they are a statutory requirement for a limited company. Failure to produce accounts on time can lead to sanctions up to and including the strike off of a company from the register of limited companies. In addition, failure to produce timely accounts could lead to sanctions from the footballing authorities, and would lead to the witholding of a uefa licence. Clubs employ accountants to minimise the amount of tax they have to pay, and private limited companies tend to produce accounts containing the least information legally required. To give more than that would be commercially naive.
  15. Accounts have to be produced annually and lodged with Companies House. These are public documents and can be obtained online for £1. They are also distributed to shareholders and discussed at the company AGM. I believe that, as a Private Limited Company, the club are not obliged to publish a detailed breakdown of income so I'd save my pound if I were you. The accounts come out after AGM and I'm thinking the next ones wont include income earned in May due to dates of financial year. the accounts form part of the annual tax return, and although the breakdown will not be detailed, income and expenditure will have to placed tinpot such buckets that it may be possible to deduce some of what has gone on.
  16. I don't get that? Surely the number of seeds has to remain for the draw to work? I don't get that? Surely the number of seeds has to remain for the draw to work? there were 102 teams in round 1, the 51 with the highest coefficient being seeded. There are 66 in round 2, the top 33 being seeded. Because the rounds are drawn together, UEFA seed assuming that the team with the highest coefficient will win in round 1 when seeding for round 2. An unseeded team in round 1 could be seeded in round 2 if the beat a seed with a high enough coefficient remember, this is uefa, so it's not meant to be simple to understand
  17. So we shouldn't take what you say literally? How on earth are we supposed to know what you are saying?

  19. Well, that's next years Eurovision entry sorted...
  20. That sounds a bonnie snack, the prince of sandwiches
  21. Aren't they playing in the Petrofrac Cup about then?
  22. If he was given an ejector seat I am sure a few of us would be happy to subsidise his air fare.
  23. Well, you've butchered this thread.
  24. Or maybe I was answering the criticisms of my club in the same way anyone would? In a pub people have banter about their teams. On a forum it seems to now be a thing of the past. Come back when your "title challenge" involves taking something off the eventual champions.
  25. He's called FakeFan - must be a hint there somewhere. Maybe doogull has forgotten his login details. Anyway, don't feed the trolls.
