Matchday Thread Ross County -V- Inverness C.T.
Alex MacLeod replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
You sure you were listening to the right players as our game was on BT Sport, not Alba! Not sure what will happen with the pitch over the summer, but the club are painfully aware that it's not in the condition they would like it to be. Sorry, wrong channel. It was a recording I watched after getting home. Agree. 4G pitch is the way forward. Sadly the league won't allow it yet.- 146 replies

Worth reading for those on both sides of the fence but mainly those stuck on top of it. http://www.bigmouthstrikesagain.com/archives/5411#comment-25687 For some reason it may open near the bottom of page so just scroll back up to beginning

There is another point being missed but one that was mentioned by the players being interviewed on Alba after the game. They both mentioned the difference with using width at Dingwall but stressed that the pitch there allowed them to play that style whilst the state of our own pitch is a hindrence. Its sad to admit but the Dingwall pitch was in far better condition on friday night than ours was last saturday.- 146 replies

Bit of a harsh accusation Dougal. There are many fans of many teams who never travel to away games. There are also many who cant, or wont, attend a night game because of transport difficulties etc. Whatever the reason I'd hardly call it a boycott.

Well around twenty of them managed to get up early and catch 09:45 train to Glasgow. Only Marley looked knackered.- 146 replies

Who should it be, who will it be etc.
Alex MacLeod replied to IMMORTAL HOWDEN ENDER's topic in Caley Thistle
Who should be relegated ? Partick. Just dont like them. Who will it be ? Only Hearts. I think whoever makes the playoff will stay up. If it was up to you ? I'd find a way to save Hearts for the Gorgie trips. I'd also want County for the derby. Who should be promoted ? Not too fussed. I think it'll be Dundee though Who will it be ? Dundee If I was up to you ? Queen of South cos they've never been in top league. -
Met a Polish guy at Dingwall station after derby game. We was writing a lot of notes and had team sheet so asked was he a journalist. No. He is a scout for an eastern block team. Wouldn't say who though. He was there to cast an eye over Billy and DeLeeuw but was also taking note of others to watch over the next couple of seasons including young Ryan.

I've never known the Mallard to be so quiet pre match.

That has to be one of the best games I've witnessed. Good honest attacking play and everyone giving their all. The squad deserve their break wherever they're headed today.- 146 replies

Why on earth would he tie the rest of the team down on long term contracts then? Including wingers like Williams. Did he tie them down or had they already agreed to stay but waiting to sign on the line
-
He was a definite no to maybe when I seen him last saturday.
-
There wont be a big away support. Many folk dont want to give County the money. I'll be there though. Only because I'd bought the ticket and booked the hotel before I witnessed the St Mirren game.

Is P&B really that old?

Bayne was on from the start and scored our goal. Niether Wyness nor Dargo were on the bench. Game was played on 25/02/07. Fifth round of Scottish Cup. ICT Team: Fraser, Hastings, Tokely, Munro, Dods, Wilson (McAllister 86), McBain (Hart 45), Duncan, Black (McSwegan 77), Rankin, Bayne. Subs: Ridgers, McCaffery, Hart, McAllister, McSwegan.

Put Shinnie in for Watkins and you have a winning team there. Provided they're allowed to use all the pitch

We paid a fee for Rankin. Reputed at the time to be somewhere between £40,000 and £60,000

Sorry friend but do you read before you spout. Why Christie bottom? Got us to 7th in the table, with a points total above 4th, then 8th in his second. That's got to be better than Baltacha and Brewster 2 at least. My thoughts as well. Does the poster remember the season and a half of good football and good results that Charlie had or does he only remember the four defeats start of following season. AlexJones puts Christie at the bottom. starchief asks why. I reiterate his question with "My thoughts as well". In other words my thought was why Charlie at bottom. I then, if you read the next part, actually praise Charlie's tenure by questioning AlexJones. Are you the only one that can't see that. As for vitriolic posting can you please direct me to one of those? Finally, Finally may I direct you to my first post on this subject. Especially the highlighted text. If that is some vitriolic statement against Charlie then I pity your understanding of the language I type.

Maybe he just nipped out for a smoke

It was going to happen that we get 3 aways against someone. Just happens to be Celtic. Would be better to take consolation from us having three home games this split. Two of which are Aberdeen and Dundee U. Both teams that will take a few extra fans. We should also remember that last season we had 20 home games.

On statistics Brewster 2nd time should be above Hughes. Stats Win% Brewster 34.38. Hughes 30.43. For me the question is a really difficult one to answer. Robbo has the glory of taking us to SPL with Pele's team but at the start of that first season, and before he left, we had won 4 drawn 2 and lost 8. Nobody knows how Pele would have faired in SPL other than his disaster at Aberdeen. Looking only at SPL level I'd have Charlie Christie up at the top. I think if Charlie didn't have to find a way of fitting Niculae (who was forced on him) into his starting 11 at the start of 07/08 season, and the pressure that put on his shoulders, he'd have been around a lot longer and built a very good squad in the process. Butcher has to get credit for puting together the current squad and for the style and success of the start of this season but there was cries for his head in his first SPL seasons with us. Yes we won Div 1 at first attempt but only by keeping a squad of SPL players together and at a cost to the club.

A few dozen young fans demanding the manager's head will have no impact on the board....and nor should it. Aye maybe it needs a couple of old codgers with a signboard on the Kessock bridge and a lot of shoe waving.
-
Personally, I don't believe that the appointment process with a charade nor do I believe that our commercially shrewd board would have gone for the short term cheapest option. He clearly wasn't appointed on the basis of his record with previous clubs as it is an objective fact rather than a matter of opinion that it's mediocre to say the very least. I can only assume that he must have been truly inspirational in his interviews but I can't square that with the John Hughes I have seen and heard. I don't actually understand why fans who were previously doubters were enthused by his initial press conference which was about as predictable and cliche ridden as they come. Has anyone been? Pele was doing very well with Huntly but Robbo and Brewster were first timers with no managerial experience. Butcher's record wasn't all that great before we signed him. I wonder......is where we are right now the real reason for Grassa leaving? Some may not have liked the guy but he had a big say in managerial appointments and we brought in some good ones. Brewster second time being the exception.
-
I agree & Butcher will possibly be after some of our players Unlikely. Butcher never pays for players.
