There are more things for a manager to consider when offering a player a new contract, attitude, performance in training, making sure he fits into his game plan, etc etc. Things that we don't have the luxury of seeing

I suppose the loan players, Calum Ferguson (Montrose) and Ben Greenhalgh (Stenhousemuir) will have returned, as those clubs' seasons are now over.

However, the 'rumour' is that Adam Evans, Jay Cheyne, Nick Draper, Joe Gorman, Conor Pepper, Calum Howarth and Matthew Cooper are being released.

No official confirmation from the club yet - likely waiting until the end of season.

Yeah, and the Courier also reporting the same. I had high hopes for him at one time - but that was last season, he's just not featured at all this campaign. I'm sure he'll find new a club over the summer.

The way I have read it the seven he is speaking to are the ones who have a year left on their contract, Shinnie, McKay etc.

I read it that way too, Big G. So, rumour aside, we're still in the dark regarding the other players although the absence of bench-players in our last couple of games suggests that most of the rest will be getting moved-on.

The club website needs to inform the fans of what's going on, rather than reading it in the papers.

Particularly these days with 'social media' - whatever that's supposed to mean.

I've little time for the narcissism that is FaceFriend, Bookbumface, Chitter, or Twit-here, but often these outlets are ahead of the game - the club needs to 'keep up' - says the guy just getting used to his first mobile telephone.

Greenhalgh is getting released once his loan deal is up at the end of the season apparently. Ferguson signed a one-year deal with first team. Howarth not sure about i thought he was getting released, the other 3 in the U20's still have a year left on their youth deals

Think I'm right in saying that Cameron Mackay, Jason Brown and Alistair Sutherland still have another year to go on their contracts.

Yes you are Renegade, I think they are a year younger than the ones released

Ben Greenhalgh being released, if true, is maybe not surprising. I'd have liked to see him get a one-year-deal, to see if he could make the break-through.

The poor guy has huge levels of expectation around him - which will follow him to his next club - because of the SKY TV next footballer thing and the Inter Milan link.

It's probably a curse! The fans of his next club will be on-line doing their research and also discover that he's a Ronaldo body-double....again, no favours!

We did/do have a Ben Greenhalgh thread, started-up when he signed - it's worth a look for the cringe factor. No names mentioned, but some folk were getting really carried away by the hype!!!

Aside from the irony in admitting you don't follow the worlds most popular and powerful news/communications outlets* and then claiming the club are the ones who need to "Keep Up"....it's not as straight forward as you paint it.

 

Players are generally under contract with clubs until the end of May, so whilst discussions may have taken place the clubs hands are tied in terms of making any official statement until such time as they expire or release forms have been completed.

 

Whilst some players may have gone public and/or spoken to people (press or otherwise) about what is happening, it would be extremely unprofessional of the club to jump the gun before all necessary paperwork etc has been completed....if for no other reason than it leaves the door open for people to change minds (which happens occasionally).

 

 

 

*The club Facebook has over 5000 followers and their Twitter has over 7300....the average reach of these accounts (people who see messages posted via them) is in the region of 2.4 million people a week.  That's far in excess of any other outlet (even newspapers, radio & TV), so if you want to get news out to as many as possible, as quickly as possible, then that's where it's going to happen.

Id heard he had been released, though i did think it was harsh given his age. But if he is still there then fair enough. 

Aberdeen supposedly sniffing about Shinnie. Lets hope they get him tied down long term pronto. If any play deserves a new 2 year extension to his current contract its him.

Brilliant news. as much as I'd like a couple of new signings this summer I think it will be much better if we get the first XI on extended deals. Shinnie, Meekings and Mckay next please!
