ach baws.......... :007:

every cloud has a silver lining - falkirk just went ahead against the dirty arabs  :clapping04:

FFS.  full time 1-2.  ...well at least the arabs lost as well...

This stands as a shocker and does not stand well for the coming season, I couldn'nt make the game due to money on the King George and the Qually's for tomorrow but to honest it couldn't have been predicted otherwise.

Just listening to Gus McPherson on the round up and he makes it sound easy, burn my baws ya twaats.

And now I'm listening to Chick Young gloating!

too many caley players thought they were coasting to a win esp golabeck he should have been hooked before halftime  ... but on a positive rankin played a lovely ball to dargo for his goal ...

Just back from the game.  Some post-match questions for Charlie...

1) Why wasn't Hastings playing instead of Golly?  Alternatively, why wasn't Morgan playing instead of Golly?  In fact, why wasn't Michael Fraser playing instead of Golly?

2) What is the point of wellying high balls up to your two strikers when they're midgets and the St. Mirren defenders are the sort of people usually found at the top of beanstalks?

3) Is John Rankin actually a left-sided midfielder?

4) Why, oh why did we sub Duncan, who was my personal man of the match and anchoring the midfield, for Keogh, who along with Black kept going forward and never getting any passes?

5) Did the players actually get any instructions from the dugout during the game?  (Apart from Donald Park kicking the wall in anger once)

6) Since when have we been good enough to take our foot off the gas when we go one up?

Oh jings, our performance was awful, bar the first 15 minutes of the second half.  Great finish from Dargo, though Rankin's contribution to the goal was practically the only thing he did of note.  My dad correctly described the St. Mirren strikes as "numpty" goals - Golly made a complete hash of things at the first, and Dods and Munro just seemed to want to wait under the high ball until Sutton caught up with them for the second.  St. Mirren played just like we did away from home last year, and thoroughly deserved the win.  Only Black, Dargo, Duncan, Brown plus maybe Caff and Wilson get any sort of pass marks today.

In conclusion, ladies and gentleman, prepare for a long, hard season.

... on a positive note - excellent games today for Denzil, Dargoals, Barry Wilson and Blackie.

Never an easy game - playing the newly promoted side - St Mirren put so much into this match, reminded me of us two years ago.

........ and to continue with the negative -

I was surprised that Rankin started. he set up the goal, but otherwise looked very nervous with his step-up and was pretty invisible.

Golly was shocking - he's got to be dropped for next week.

Caff looked a bit out of place at right back. Proctor would have given us more bite from this position.

And finally, Mark Brown - Oh dear - never thought I'd say it, but on that form I'd like to see Michael Fraser start next week.

It's going to be a long hard season.

Quite simply we were beaten by the better team !! St Mirren played us off the park. 1-2 flatters us ! :008: :008: :008: :008: :008:

It is perhaps unfair but I cannot recall a player, let alone a captain, being substituted in virtual silence. Golly was first class when he lead us into the SPL but after losing his place through injury just does not breed confidence. The two goals were errors by Granty and Doddsy. Hopefully there will be no more Brewster rubbish this week from Dundee United and the players can build up to a monumental tussle with the Dons. Black played very well despite the battle behind the scenes to sign him. Barry played well while Rankin acquitted himself well.

i actually think after dundee utds defeat today brewster will be even more determined to sign our 3 players

Other than the first 15 mins of the second half we were absolute pish. We were too deep, the passing was awful, and there was no creativity at all. St Mirren fully deserved the points.

Brown...I've said it before, but I really don't believe Brown deserves all the adulation heaped on him. Great shotstopper aye, but his kicking is a joke, and he doesn't command his box. To be honest I'd like to see Michael given a shot.

The defence was woeful. If that's how Dods is going to play then we should sell immediately. Munro was *****, McCaffrey isn't a RB....and as for Golly :017: I'm not sure I've ever been more embarressed by a players performance. He was shocking.

Midfield....Rankin was ok, did well for the goal. Barry tried, but with no joy. Blackie....I thought he was awful too. Ditto what I said about Dods.  MOTM for me was Russell, god knows why he was hooked.

Dargo took his goal well. Dennis played better than I've seen him play for a while.

If we repeat that next week we're in for a loooooooooooooooong season.

i actually tohught black waso ur best player,at least he was trying

I think its fair to say we got what we deserved today  :007:

We couldn't cope with St. Mirren route 1 football and that 2nd goal beggars belief. Woeful. It was just a long punt down the middle from the keeper

Not many even came through with pass marks and I think there will have to be several changes made for next week

The back 5 were p**h and some of there passing was comical. Have to agree as well about Brown. He really doesn't inspire me with confidence anymore. I'd choose Fraser ahead of him now if for no other reason he looks far more comfortable with pass backs

Not much to add to what has already been said...but thats never stopped me before  :001:

Brown - Hard to comment on what part he played in the 2 goals as I was at the other end of the park, from where I was though the first one looked like the players had turned to walk away expecting the ball to either be in the back of the net or safely in Browns hands and nobody was alert enough to be in there to clear up the spill.

Caff - Didn't look comfortable at RB and rarely went forward.  All he seemed to want to do was punt the ball up the wing whenever he got it and most of the time it came straight back at us.  He was the one who came out in the Press saying he was going to be fighting for the RB position, but I would have taken a one legged Rossco in his place today.

Munro - Seemed to take his eye off the ball far too often and was constantly opting for the easy ball across the pitch or back to Brown.  He, understandably to a certain extent, seemed very nervous of any plays coming at Golly and in an attempt to cover was getting dragged away from doing his own job in the middle.

Dods - Pretty much ditto from my comments about Munro.

Golly - Unfit, has lost any sharpness he once had and rarely got forward.  Rarely will I go OTT about any players performance, but Golly playing like he did today is more of a liability as other players are having to try and do 2 jobs to cover his a55.  Don't know the real reason why he removed the Captains armband, it was suggested it was too tight, but to me thats a sign of a player looking for excuses.  I would be happier to see the armband given to someone else in all honesty.  I would never wish injury on a player, but the twice Golly went down I was hoping it was enough for him to be subbed.

Rankin - No better than what we have already based on todays performance.  You could see he was uneasy with things, whether that was just SPL nerves or not confortable with his position, only time will tell.  His ball across the goal for Dargo to stick away was as sweet as they come, and with a bit more support I have a feeling he will prove worthy of the transfer fee.

Black - His usual tigerish self in the middle of the park, he was never going to get the chance to shine today with so many poor performances round about him.  His over the shoulder shot was unlucky to have gone straight to the keeper.

Wilson - Was 15 minutes or so in to the game before I realised he was even on the park, but he seemed to come on to some kind of game with a couple of great runs, his final ball was very very poor though.

Duncan - Probably my MotM if I had to choose one today, he seemed to be the only one able to distribute a ball and actually get it to one of our own players, was very surprised to see him being subbed.

Wyness - May have just managed to break sweat, but thats only because he was running around like a headless chicken.  Whatever is wrong with him he needs to give himself a good shake because if he doesn't then he won't be starting too many games.  I would far rather have McAllister starting and see a bit of effort than someone who doesn't seem willing to try.

Dargo - A well taken goal...and thats about it really.  He was never going to have much of a chance to do anything else with the number of high balls that were being played to him and the distribution from the midfield was woeful.  I also hope CC hits you with a fine for the stupid Yellow Card you picked up on 90 minutes.

Keogh - Tried hard, but so much was going wrong round about him he had very little chance to do anything except get stuck in and try and make the best of a bad job.  As with Black, he was very unlucky that his shot went straight to the keeper.

Bayne - 10 minutes on the park is never enough to judge any player on, so, No Comment.

Today was bad, about as bad as I have seen in a long time.  Tactics were wrong, execution was wrong, attitudes were wrong...you name it, it was wrong today.  However, it is the first game of the season and as the saying goes "Things can only get better".  Players still seemed very much in pre-season mode.  St Mirren had a really strong 20 minute spell in the first half, but we brought them under control and it looked like they would not have much to trouble us with, and they didn't in all honesty.  You can talk about "The better team won" and all that nonsense, but the true fact of the matter is that we beat ourselves today.  All credit to St Mirren for getting stuck in and taking advantage, but they didn't look like anything special, and that just makes the loss all the more frustrating.

Players have to take a lesson from today, then put the result behind them and move on - and we, the fans, have to do the same.  If we don't then we will only continue to dig a hole.

Bring on Aberdeen!!!!
