TFC Banner

I just had to post this as it was awesome (and I contributed) !!!!!!

TFC fans were upset earlier this season when Danny Dichio, who scored the first ever goal for TFC announced his retirement.

Danny is a cult figure with the fans so we did something for him. The idea started out as a TiFO covering part of the south end (roughly the bit on the left where the picture of the player is) and quickly morphed into the huge 250 x 50 foot monster you see here ........

Handy when it rains...

Not so handy when a goal goes in! I once missed a goal at the only Premiership game I've been to because of one of those things (but much, much smaller). Very impressive banner.

Presumably this is the same Dichio who was a dud at Sunderland many years ago?

The very same. He was one of those players that teams fighting relegation always seemed to sign no matter how rubbish they had been elsewhere.

EDIT: The banner is very impressive. How much did it cost? (This might be mentioned in one of the links but I don't know if I can access them at work).

Maybe we should have done one for Brewster....imagine rolling a Brewster Out banner over the North stand. I'd have liked to have seen them try to kick us out for that one. (Having said that, there probably wouldn't have been enough fans there to hold the thing anyway)

That is a quality piece of work it has to be said. I hope Mrs Scotty likes ironing

To answer a few questions

- Yes its the same Dichio. Not the most skillful player in the world but always gives 100%. A sort of striker version of Ross Tokely. He scored the first ever TFC goal so that guaranteed legend status and basically has a rapport with the fans that is something special. When he retired, he hired one of those planes that pull banners behind them and had it fly over the ground for an hour.

- cost - no idea, both of the main supporters groups asked their members to cough up donations and most of us did. Overall, we made $1500 more in donations than the actual cost of materials so the remainder is being donated to a charity of DD's choice.

- The banner now belongs to Danny .... not sure how he got it home though as it weighs 500Lbs

Oh for the days when we had fans who would have been willing to get involved in something like that.

Or a club that would encourage its fans to create an atmosphere , we're not even allowed to hang our flags .

We would have only ended up with a giant shoe on it! :022:
