  1. Arbroath are up to 3rd and have the best goal difference in the division. They are there on merit and we saw tonight the qualities that make them a very hard team to beat. They were very well organised. Every player knew what their role was, they closed us down quickly and anticipated who the ball might be played to and closed them down quickly too. Put simply, they stopped us playing football and were helped in that regard by poor playing conditions and an inept referee. But we didn't help ourselves. It was an uncharacteristically lacklustre performance, and even when we did get in behind their defence, the delivery into the box was poor (if it actually reached that far) and shooting was either very weak or very speculative. If the referee had added on another 30 minutes for Arbroath's farcical timewasting antics, we still wouldn't have scored. I'm afraid we need to up our game if we are to remain in a play-off spot at the end of the season. Good to see some youngsters making a bit of noise with the drum at the far end of the North Stand, but I'm afraid even their welcome enthusiasm was extinguished by what was happening on the pitch. Here's hoping for another stirring performance against Partick to get us back on track and to re-kindle everyone's enthusiasm.
  2. Over my many years watching football, most good teams have always had, what some might call, a destroyer, some physical strength, in the midfield, we currently do not, and in my humble opinion was one of our problems last night. A few seasons ago we had Carson, who was lost to the middle of the park to fill the right back berth, then we had Allardice, who was also moved from the midfield to right back, and last night we never had control of the midfield. We had two wing men, and two centre mids, and it just wasn't enough. If we are going to win games we need to win the midfield, and we haven't done that recently.
  3. Not great when we have 3 attacking midfielders starting the game, what was surprising was that they couldn't string more than three passes together ( to players in blue)!

If they will not engage with an official supporters body which holds a major shareholding (percentage wise if not quantity) and deems that body as not representative then who DO they see as representative of the fans? For me, it should start with the Trust and engagement should expand from there. IMHO - the club should be engaging with any fans groups ... be that the creators and listeners of the Wyness Shuffle, the Travel Club, the 'CaleyAway' supporters, CTO, or anyone else who emerges and takes the time to contribute to the club in a positive way either online or in person ... currently, all I have heard of the club interacting with is the hand-picked steering committee and that seems to have died a death also - or at least is not being reported. I can only talk to experience with the level of engagement we have had with the club which has varied over 27 years ..... It was pretty good for about 20 years overall ... but Rae and Crook chose to cut ties with this site over a personal beef/vendetta with CaleyD, and although I have spoken to the current chairman a few times about certain things and put them in contact with some individuals when they were looking at how to get rid of debt or get some ideas for income, they don't engage with us either. We remain open to any engagement with the club now that Rae and Crook are long gone and have continued sponsorship (which was going to be dropped under Rae and Crook) as a show of faith. While we may not have thousands of individual posters, we do have thousands of unique users who lurk on a monthly basis along with healthy page views so regardless of what anyone thinks, the posters on here, do represent a portion of the fans. We absolutely do not represent all fans, or even a majority, and have never claimed to do so, but those who come on here are engaged, just like other groups tend to have people who are engaged and interested in the club. Every group can claim to represent a portion (but not all) of the fans and together, I would argue that all the various groups, pages or organisations represent a lot of the fans and should all be encouraged. Over here (at Toronto FC) we have a multitude of supporters groups within the (approx 30K) season ticket holders and the club interact with any and all that are recognised as an established and active group within the supporters section of the stadium. We have supporters group meetings where leadership of each group meet (together) with the club in an open forum to discuss things we can do for the club together and concerns the club may have about things (behaviour, flares/smoke etc.) and on a yearly basis (pre-COVID) there were events at the stadium where its open to all members of these groups and we got to hear club overview and plans and also got to do a Q&A with a few of the players ... that's what got my little guy fully engaged when he met up with a few of the senior players .. and has since cost me thousands in getting him signed up for TFC juniors coaching .. so that little bit of engagement got them revenue in another stream .... Something ICT could and should do ... and to be fair, something it looks like they are trying if little articles here and there about partnerships and sponsorships are ongoing.
  5. One things that has been apparent recently is that when opponents take the lead then set out to resolutely defend (Hamilton, Raith, Arbroath) we really struggle to break them down and create chances. It’s not as if their keepers have been making great saves or we’ve missed sitters, we just don’t create enough. Our potentially most creative players like Walsh, Doran, McGregor, have offered very little recently. Gardyne is the only one who looks a threat at the moment.

Moved to Rumour Mill where it belongs.

Great to see the minute's silence in his memory observed impeccably by all at the stadium tonight.

On one hand, it makes sense as he'd want to be back on Tyneside with his family. But on the other, it seems like utter bollocks as coming from the Northern Premiership to the Second Tier of Scottish Football is a chance that veeeery few get and would be an absolutely abysmal choice to throw away a contract like that. Rather wait for word from the man himself and/or the club than take rumours like that at face value...

Safe to say that I wasn't the greatest fan of the team he was most closely associated with but I was sorry to read of his death at the relatively young age of 73. He always struck me as a very decent, honest and straightforward man and was clearly a very good manager and coach enjoying enormous success. Sincere condolences to all who knew and loved him.
  10. This leads me on to another thing that struck me last night. What does it say about Duffy when, given the choice between playing our only recognised right back or moving a central midfielder there, we’ve again opted for the latter?
  11. Totally. Free kick was nicely whipped in but it was an uncharacteristic blunder from the keeper. Edit to add - I don’t imagine that Carson at right back would have given away the free kick that the goal came from.
  12. Dunno, my guess is that the shares return to the club. Hopefully some new (and young) blood will put their names forward to join the board. Many folk are keen to complain and pass comment on social media but unfortunately unwilling to give up their time to take the trust forward.
  13. We got what we deserved tonight and it’s been coming as we’ve been struggling for a while now. That’s 8 points out of the last 18 which is mid table performance, so we need to cure this and fast. Yes the conditions were poor, but we were at home so should have been able to master them better than Arbroath. Yes the referee allowed acting and time wasting but the defeat was solely down to our poor performance and inability to create or take chances. Hopefully it is the kick up the backside we need to start getting positive results again before we slip further down the table. I’m also struggling with the MOM as no one rose above mediocrity. Ridgers would have been my pick for a couple of decent saves but I felt he was caught out at the goal. I may abstain this time round. As for the comments above about Carson, the poor lad has just lost his father. The club and fans need to show him support at a difficult time, as Mckay did when he raised Carson’s shirt when he scored against Morton. Now is not the time for gossip and rumours.
  14. I don't know where yo start with that performance. We lost the midfield battle, we needed three in the middle, two wide and play one striker. We certainly miss an Allardice or Carson winning the ball, but too many players just didn't turn up or made the wrong final ball. And I lost count of second balls We lost. It was terrible conditions, but Arbroath seemed to handle it better. We need to turn this bad run if form around quickly or my prediction of us ending up fifth will come true. Partick are the best team we have played thus season, so Dodds will have to get his tactics right for Saturday. Really disappointed tonight. Can't think who will get my man of the match tonight.
  15. Hopeless, Inept, clueless and that was the referee! ICT were not far behind, As has been said before we have been very poor and tonight showed that we are papering over the cracks. So many poor passes, and failed lay offs to nobody, and a complete lack of idea's in the opposition box. The ref was awful, truly awful, He lat them get away with murder, then ignored the time wasting **** of a keeper. Not happy.
  16. Can you be fined for pretending to collapse unconscious to kill off time? Cos if so that rat at the end of the game deserves every book in the library thrown both at his face and his bollox. Makes a mockery of medical professionals and those who've died in situations like that, especially if you just hop up and act like nout ever happened.
  17. A truly terrible evening for us compounded by Kilmarnock's late winner at Ayr. If we can't somehow find a way to turn round this abysmal run of form and win at Firhill on Saturday then we can probably forget about our ambitions for automatic promotion. Arbroath are, very typically of Dick Campbell sides, very well organised but, much like Alloa last term, if we can't find a way to beat part time teams, especially at home, we will win nothing and deservedly so.
