  1. All you have to do is ask! From Alex Main's centenary history "Caley All The Way". (If you are the copyright holder and object, please let me know.) The team is listed a couple of pages later in the book, and matches your line-up perfectly. Nice to see "Porridge" MacKintosh in both photos. I remember his daughter from, I guess, primary school. She was called Roberta, but more often, like her father, she was "Bobby"!
  2. So, as the Chairman of the reconstituted CJT, are you attempting to set up lines of communication with the board? I appreciate that most of your efforts just now will be going towards getting CJT up and running. But formal contact with the Chairman and key ICT staff - if only to say "Hi, we're here, and we look forward to working with you" - would surely be useful? You make valid points, which should be discussed. Maybe you're doing this already, but all I see are your posts here.
  3. Malcolm Slater (3rd from right, back row) was my next-door-neighbour during this period. He was a friendly bloke - drove a VW Beetle. He had got married whilst he was playing down south at Orient or Southend, and I don't think his wife had ever been north of Watford. She told us that she had fully expected to be digging her way out of the house all through the winter, and was surprised to find that it wasn't that bad. I always picture Malcolm hanging about on the wing, looking very cold, with his hands up inside his sleeves. He used to hit the most beautiful crosses - I was convinced that they defied gravity and hung in the air over the box, before plummeting down. A fine player. I have no idea what happened to him. His Wikipedia page doesn't even know that he came back to Caley - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Slater
  4. You don't have to watch the match? ?
  5. Given how the Irn Bru Cup win perked us up last season, I shudder to think what effect this might have...
  6. You might want to discuss this at your next meeting! Nothing you say is untrue, but the concept of being a "representative" - in most Western democracies, such as our Parliaments - means that you are empowered to use your own judgement in trying to do the best for those whom you represent. You are not a delegate, sent to vote a particular way. Yes, you should listen to the supporters, but in some cases it may be that you as a Board member, and indeed the CJT Board, may take a formal position which is different from what you believe the majority of members may want. I can't think of a specific example, but it's quite possible that you might end up supporting, or not opposing, or not speaking against, some unpopular action taken by the ICT Board, even if the majority of members were apparently against it. You are, as you say, democratically accountable to the membership. Just like MPs, you are empowered to take your own decisions, and if the membership don't like what you do, then they will periodically have a chance to vote you out! I offer this as a constructive observation, as I think that it's very important for you all to achieve a common understanding of your powers and goals, and policies and strategies, before you set out on what will probably be a rocky road. I wish you all the best of luck!
  7. I appreciate that it's very early days for the new-look CJT, but maybe you could organise something to be presented to him at his first game at his new club, since we never had a chance to say goodbye. Maybe a memento of the Highlands, rather than of ICT itself.
  8. I said there was a case to be made - I didn't say that I was going to make it! Google for "London independence" and you'll find plenty of material. There was an upsurge in activity after London voted 60-40 to stay in the EU. I agree that it's a non-starter, but it's worth looking at both sides of the argument, to see how the running of a large urban area - and I'm thinking of others such as the West Midlands, as well as London - could be improved.
  9. ... and very probably incorrect, too. https://www.ft.com/content/6ebd5350-3f8f-11e7-9d56-25f963e998b2 http://uk.businessinsider.com/london-and-the-south-east-effectively-provide-subsidies-to-rest-of-britain-2017-5 I haven't been in London very often since I stopped working at the end of 2015, but the London "Evening Standard" newspaper regularly used to bemoan the fact that London was subsiding the rest of the UK. In fact, given the population, politics, economy and indeed history of London - always powerful enough to hold sway over monarchs and parliaments - there is an interesting case to be made for independence for London.
  10. Back at the end of the 60s, I played the records at Kingsmills for a couple of seasons. A regular was the "Dam Busters March" by the Central Band of the RAF. (Not exactly in tune with the zeitgeist, I know....) It was a 7 inch single, so one day I flipped it over and played the B-side - the RAF band doing the old tune "Lilliburlero". After a minute or so, someone came hastily into the small room where the record player and PA were, and said "You can't play that! It's an anti-Catholic song!". News to me. My reply was "You're probably the only person in the ground who knows that". Mind you, from the after-match sing-songs on the team bus I learned that there was a Catholic version of "The Sash", so that reply might not have been accurate. And now back to your regularly scheduled programming...
  11. A tune by a local lad that could surely never be considered "twee". Runrig - "The Engine Room". They'll be needing a bit of extra money now that they are calling it a day.
  12. In the late 60s and possibly early 70s, I used to go there for piano lessons - as did quite a few of my contemporaries. The nuns were all very friendly and happy people. La Sagesse (the Wisdom) is, I believe, a teaching order. One of my strongest memories of the place is that there was frequently the most glorious smell of bread or other baking permeating through the building. Someone really knew the art of temptation!
  13. The last thing we need is another injury-prone player.
  14. Whenever we play County next season, we should be able to get them down to 10 men within a few minutes. It's a JOKE!!!
  15. Yup - I was disappointed too. Another Highland team that thinks the officials are against them - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44096432 Was also disappointed that Peterhead missed out on promotion after being second in the division by one point, and 22 points and 31 goals ahead of Stenhousemuir. Still, Peterhead had two sent off - clearly suicide when you're already 2-0 down from the first leg. My wife's family are all Stenny supporters, so I'd better not say any more!
  16. Well, yes and no. There's also the fact that every British monarch - from James VI and I onwards - has been part descended from Mary, Queen of Scots. The Stuarts, the Hanoverians, the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas - all of them! Delicious irony, after the treatment she received on both sides of the border. Though of course you could argue about how British she was, given her childhood in France, and her forebears' tendency to marry fancy foreign wummen! There's a family tree at https://www.britroyals.com/royaltree.asp
  17. You could break your journey at Hampden, and watch the double treble being achieved. Oh, sorry, you said "overhyped nonsense". As you were!
  18. Not sure - Austin Healey, Jag XJ6, Jag XK, Triumph Stag?
  19. I propose we move this thread to "General Nonsense"!
  20. Interesting idea, and well-worthy of discussion. Not quite the same scenario, but back in Highland League days, Jock McDonald sometimes offered a job at Tomatin Distillery to a player whom he was trying to persuade to sign for Thistle. Useful if it was someone from outside the area, with no local connections. If memory serves me right, Ian Cumming, the captain of his first league-winning team, was one such. There may well have been others.
  21. I was wondering if it could get us promoted next season Or at least remove the fabled gypsy's curse from the Longman...
  22. Is it a pop-up box asking for the user's consent? There's a bit more to GDPR compliance than that.
  23. No Doran - not even on the bench. Is he suspended, injured, or... ?
  24. We now have five pages of speculation since last Sunday, based solely - as far as I know - on the posting above. The world is crying out for such creativity
