Matchday Thread Inverness C.T. -V- Dundee Utd
Scarlet Pimple replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
If Nick was put on large amounts of high protein cornflakes, Horlicks at night just before closing his eyes. , a high protein diet during the day and weight training him soundly , he would be awesome? The Internet is full of training schedules and "get muscles quick" routines. Surely the club can swing it? Otherwise, they can hire a player who is monstrous (the spoiler, like) and anybody who thinks they can batter Nick will have the other guy after his hide and things and will look-up dramatically. Including the team morale. Just a thought...you know, many a word spoken in jest et al.- 133 replies

Would that be Chris Hogg who came po us from Hibs. He was off for over a year with a bad knee injury and the club released him months ago.???

The best thing for this S P, is to say absolutely nothing.

Nick is never going to turn into a bull from a gazelle. Not in the short term, anyway, so why not quit whilst you are ahead and start focussing on his good, positive points and play ,instead of the boring negative criticisms. I have seen him go into good tackles, hit a fantastic goal from outside the box, score two great penalties with quite venomous shots from such a slightly built player(!), run like a gazelle last Sunday and keep up with the opposition player without flinching or quitting and, frankly, why the heck don't some of you say something nice and upbeat about Nick who seems like a really decent young man and player who tries his best. Both Williams and Polworth are newbies but no one criticises them. I liked what I saw of them too. Dean made a few nervous jumps in the last couple of matches and seemed a bit shaky for goodness sake but no one is criticising him in the same way. Williams and Polworth have talent and worked hard and no doubt will come good but why pick on Nick Ross for goodness sake? I think he could be tried with advantage on the wing where he can run like fun, draw out the defence and may do very well on the right side. If we only have Billy up front how are we going to score goals since he is marked closely now.- 133 replies

EAGLE4CALEY Something positive is happening which may or may not be good for our respective personalities --you and I are almost in total agreement on this one. I fell asleep about fifteen minutes BEFORE the end of the game so I missed the Christie sub but from the game that I did see I feel this way:- These cameras for Setanta or whatever are fabulous. Either that or it was the HD I was viewing. Also plaudits to the camerapersons, a bunch of toilers who often go unsung--in all weathers. It was an evenly-matched contest by two fit teams who worked hard, By the end of the first half ICT were dominant. D. U. are a hard-enough working team but their possession ratio,on the day, was not as high as ours. Our team was dominant in the second but did not use the wings enough i.m.h.o. They should do that and then cross the ball hard across the goalmouth for any touch that would deflect it in. And how often did we see wingers running down to the byline? Polworth, on the left side in the second half, played a neat pass forward to another Caley player but failed to keep running down the wing going forward on the outside as an overlap which could have allowed him to cut inside in a very dangerous position.and so left the other guy without someone to pass to. I think he could be a very useful player if he was instructed to drive forward and Williams also seemed to make a decent contribution. But they both need to be encouraged and to be given the ball so they can gain in confidence! With encouragement they both could come good and Williams does loft in a very nice set piece. Doran worked hard on the right but he could also have cut to the byline with great advantage. Either way he is going to get the opportunity to flight in a ball to the goalmouth or at least get a corner out of it. He seemed to me to be more prominent and dominant ,however, than in former games. On what I saw, Nick Ross was not that bad. He worked hard and stuck to it. He has pace but seems perhaps a bit too light in the frame. I felt sorry for him when he missed the penalty. He should have belted it as hard as he could and low. Of course that's with hindsight! Perhaps penalty -taking is not as easy as it seems--in ice hockey in Canada most players miss one-on-ones with the goalie rather than scoring. Why did some players not stand out? -Well, maybe the poster was right who said they are playing to orders. Often though, when Doran was going up the right wing, he had no one beside him to pass to and so was invariably forced to loft a high ball into the box where the taller Dundee United players were able to see it coming and cope before Billy got a touch. Billy's goal was a wonder strike in a very tough cramped area though, calm, controlled and deadly. Dean did his job but maybe it would be a good thing if Ryan got a spell in the goal too to keep both sharp. Meekings is a bit of a tough character and had better watch some of his interventions, or the team will be short of a man. That ref , Mr Beaton, seemed to be on good enough terms with the players and seemed to use common sense in tricky situations, The penalty was a no-brainer and was fair. On balance I think he did a good job. Sorry about the Dundee United player who got injured . The ankle ligament injury is a very painful one but, if he is lucky it will heal fairly quickly.- 133 replies

The challenge off how much to be pally with the players is a difficult one. It's not like the old days when elders were always addressed by youngsters as Mister. If he is too distant nowadays and not show his emotions or sense of humor he may lose touch with them also. For him it's a balancing act but if he is forthright and honest with them and not be shy to suggest ways in which, individually, they can improve then hopefully he can inspire them and encourage them enough to get the best out of them. But, on the other hand he can't afford to show weakness or they, naturally, will try to take advantage of him It's up to him to show who is the boss. A good firing now and then helps to clear a few heads..............

:smile:Not everyone who does what he did is an oaf. Dougal. Enthusiasm, forgetfulness, or the onset of Alzheimers as you enter your dotage, are three factors that can trigger something like this. Happens to me all the time, Dougal, in our new kitchen where the wooden panelling sticks out with pointy ends to it , not being what I have been used to for the past eight years. It's coming to a doorway near you too in a few years, old chap. Of course, the jury is still out on whether Scarlet is an oaf for other reasons...?

YES, but how many are willing to admit openly what Euan Murray writes so tellingly. All this has been allowed to happen , then fostered and aggravated by the limp-wristed, incompetent managers of Scottish Football. You know, those who care so little about a progressive club like ICT to allow downright harm to be visited upon them as per the recent fiasco of buses for the semi-final, etc. Penalising and hurting Hearts so dramatically is no answer to allowing financial mayhem to enter virulent creep and now they have no incentive to fight hard to avoid relegation because it seems irrevocable. They have no chance with such a high point against count them. It also puts a huge burden on the players emotionally who know from start to finish that they are on a hiding to nothing. What a farce! Vlad the Lad started all the mayhem I think and it is he who should have been be hammered earlier not the team and the supporters who have put their hard-earned cash into the club as well as providing years of physical and emotional support. Before a guy like him was allowed to invest in the club and take the reins and assume full control, he should have been obliged to post financial guarantees and/or security against this kind of financial devastation. If not in his first year at least from then on when his precocious personal traits were becoming more and more evident--not exactly based on caution were they? What we need is a change of personnel at Park Gardens.

But, if he is to be only a loanee, is there much point in giving a long run out in the team. Would bringing in the yougsters be a better bet to see what they can do and give the=m experience at the higher level?
-
He also said he was about to tell his pals that he had cut it shaving. Ha! Ha! I think, sorry "hink", it would and will be interesting to be around Mr Hughes at ICT.

The game is on "Sportsnet World" here in the Vancouver are of Canada at 3 p.m. Pacific Standard Time--that's in about 2.5 hours from now. That's the former Setanta I understand. That's channel 235 in HD Scotty....at least for Shaw Cable. I wonder if someone can tell me if Setanta still broadcasts in Scotland or the U K under that name? Now I know the score I will be looking at the T.V. just to weigh-up what all of you have said . Although I must admit I am excited since this will be the first time I have seen a fulI ICT game here on the High Definition T.V.. And the Aberdeen game on the 18th is also running on this channel --not live, but the full game will be shown later at 3 p.m just like today. I could get used to this. I'm figuring that the Irish likes the Scots and particularly Inverness......probably because we play Irish players and give then their chance? Any opinions on that? Or is it just that they can get a good deal with Caley Thistle or something? Cheers guys- 133 replies

You never know what might develop. A player swans off in a dreamlike state to wonderland down south and it doesn't work out. He returns somewhat chastened realising that all that glitters is not gold and decides to work harder back up here. Things go well and he turns into another successful import.?

Seeing our ad for Destinies in Motion down below on this page beside the " Hilton Fish and Chips" ad I couldn't help but to burst out laughing and the tears came into our eyes. Our classy-looking book, written lovingly over a long period of time, a cast of thousands of characters, derring- do, magic, political intrigue in the courts of Princess and Princesses, high falutin and rootin tootin, and often brainy, animals , romance, intrigue and 22 illustrations that took my wife a long time to draw in typing the novel and correcting the printing errors (self-publishing where the Printer, Create Space, didn't really care what came out but condemned me to re-read the WHOLE book again at every new corrected proof that they produced,) etc, etc., now juxtaposed beside a Fish and Chips shop .. It's hilarious. I LOVE IT. The guys and gals are drawn to the FIsh and Chips and can't help but see our Creation, loving it or leaving it,. And it affords me a chance to promote DESTINIES IN MOTION. So, WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT IT. Hoch! Hoch!

Well, that's interesting . My understanding was that the club released him and the exact reason was not publicised. After an injury like his the stability of the knee would always be in question anyway. My skiing injury to my left knee well over twenty years ago never fully healed because I could not take the time off work to have full surgery done, just arthroscopic which was a palliative only, and the only exercise I have been able to do since then was on the indoor bike. Two years ago, thinking that my knee was now strong I upped the pressure on the bike and the whole thing collapsed again giving me a very hard time. Now I will again have to have arthroscopic surgery shortly. Make no mistake, ligament, meniscus etc.,damage is a very serious injury and needs immediate and expert surgery and then lengthy rehabilitation which is a very painful and physically and emotionally tough experience. The club paid a lot of money for his rehabilitation and , without judging due to lack of facts, they did very well by him. At the same time there will be no doubt that his life was radically changed as a result of the injury and he needed to move on--who knows?

Barrowman is on the crest just now. Despite other parties being interested he has decided to "take his time" to consider where he might go to....... Anyway, joking aside, good luck to him in his career.

Ginger Jaggy --outstanding post. Totally positive and FORWARD THINKING. You are my kind of fan. I admire your dedication the lovely game of footie. If you like watching a game of football then you will enjoy watching womens' teams or kids playing their little hearts oit. When I was transferred to Leven (Fife) by my employer after I had returned from my 2 years in the RAF, I wanted to see a game of football and then starting walking up a hill for 20 minutes at least every other week from Leven to Methil to watch East Fife. Then I continued to watch them although perhaps the games were not quite of the fantastic standard we expect from a more senior level. After that I was transferred to Edinburgh and followed the Hibs for 6 years religiously for all that time. Why the Hibs? Because it was only a 15-18 minute walk from where I stayed in East Restalrig Terrace and the Hearts were situated at the other end of the city. It was just to ensure that I maintained my interest in football and saw live games......because.......... It's all about whether you love the game or not and whether you area a fanatical supporter of just one club or whether you are a true fan of football or just want to be attached to the glory of some teams. After that you become attached to the club, which, after all, is merely an extension emotionally of the experiences that you will naturally encounter in your life's progress anyway. For me, the game embraces all kinds of emotions and you can learn from the reactions of the individual players and fans as to how they handle the adversity and challenges involved and weigh them in the balance in comparison to your own reactions to your life's situations.

Where is Trollin Nolln when you need him? As for Brian Rice --he went to the Arabian Peninsula due to sinusitis expecting the heat to help him with his throat. So now pay attention, coughs. As the member said, he is still in a sticky patch deeply committed to catarrh....... Here in North America I also suffered from this dreaded disease and quickly went from catarrh to guitar, winning a Nosecar for me efforts.
