Matchday Thread Inverness CT -V- Dunfermline
Scarlet Pimple replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
Ulp! A lot of negativity in this thread. Can we please get a little more upbeat and try to dwell on positive aspects within the club. Like.....er….moving on to pastures new. Where the sun shines all day, like. And advising the Pimple why his typing frequently reverts to Capitals when he knows that he did not instruct this? Even with bad eyesight and senility peaking ….HELP!- 162 replies

You do have a recycling programme though don't you? We have different colour boxes for ( e.g). plastic, paper and cardboard, tins and light metal, . They are all put out for pick-up the next day along with a separate bag and box for organics. Our city must be one of the only ones in Canada that does not provide this service at least for the general refuse removal. So we have to pay for "private" rubbish disposal separately AND pay very hefty taxes for the overspending mayor and Councillors by way of property taxes.

No doubt RF did his best but he simply had no experience of looking through the other end of the lens. And stepping into a situation like that is a very severe test for anyone in his shoes at any time? Great footballer though and maybe we should now be concentrating on singing his praises for what he achieved in that role. In any event, management was as much to blame for appointing him in the first place and thus for the eventual negative situation that developed. So is it now time to move on guys? The guy is a human being and must be smarting and disappointed over the way his world must have crumbled around him. IMHO.- 162 replies

IBM, I would love to watch that also so I might scan around looking for the World Pipe Band Championship on the T.V. You do know that Simon Fraser University, whose home domicile is in East Vancouver , British Columbia, Canada has won the "World's "" Championship 6 times already and some of their piping in these tournaments was so perfectly in unison etc. that I was goggle -eyed watching and listening to the excellence and beauty of it. They do allow very fine and highly trained pipers from overseas countries to be amalgamated into their ranks but the standards of play are never relaxed. This year I don't think they will be quite up to winning the title but we shall see where they will end up. A little aside. : There are two major Universities in Vancouver. B.C. … Simon Fraser and the University of B.C otherwise mostly referred to as "U<B<C> The latter has room for some 50,000 to 60,000 students and is situated way out on the Western edge of the promontory with huge lands and is on the promontory which Vancouver City is part of and which juts out into the Pacific Ocean. Simon Fraser University is situated on top of a hill on the East Side of the city and is a beautiful building right on the top that looks more like a Roman Colosseum and has a wonderful view right down the Eastern Valley where the Pacific Ocean steadily infiltrates. It's a progressive University though and the gardens and views are spellbinding all round.- 162 replies

Re my question , above, re Trafford. If he is only 24 years old then it's not the much older player I had in mind from the past. Mind you, the player I had in mind was then seemingly beginning to fade so that should have resonated with me. Surprised that McCart didn't charm one of our supporters. That's rather disappointing because when he originally was on loan to us he was one of the on-loan players that sparkled as I recall. And what I saw of him was impressive.- 162 replies

Wow! The youngsters who shouted this filthy abuse needs to be dealt with by the club. Very firmly, if necessary. Such comments about his family member are completely unacceptable and even appalling and if allowed to pass without a strong reaction from the club will be extremely detrimental to ICT. It should not be too hard to find and identify the culprits, as per the above comments. It should not be necessary to identify them in the local newspaper but a severe warning about possible legal action in the future and warnings about not being allowed into the park in the future should be enough to bring it home to these youngsters that enough is enough. As for Polly, a big cheer for him at the next match will be just the ticket for him and will surely reassure him that a very small minority of thoughtless idiots can't alter his talented commitment to the club AND that it is greatly appreciated by the overall fan base. I'll quit whilst I'm ahead. Phew!

The name Hercher resonates from my early youth. And that was a long time ago since I am now 80 years old. I recall the name "The Hercher Brothers" spoken about by my father who I think did business with them as the owner of The Northern Tire Service on Shore Street. Were they not involved in the shows that came to Nairn annually? I think they were and if I am not mistaken my sister and I once got a free ride on whatever piece of equipment they owned. Can anyone bring back memories by confirming what is in my mind? Thanks.

And that's one reason why our defence must be solid. Then we concentrate on getting goals, goals, goals.

Re Caley Mad in Berks photo remember some of them Back row Bobby Bolt, Peter Mackinnon (who was married to my next door neighbour's daughter and lived there for a short while). Pete was a very nice person, kind and generous and very friendly and always acknowledged me no matter what. He ended up in a HOME and , sadly. has now passed on into the Spirit world. Bless your good heart Peter. I hope I have the honour and joy of meeting you again one day. Is that MacBeth on the front row extreme left perchance? Then Jamieson, Jupie Mitchell and Ginger Mackenzie? Cheers. What a great photo. That brings back some very early memories for me Thanks!

Depends on the age of the kids. However, when I was very young, jumping over the fence at the back corner in the Bumber's Lane was always a good bet but since I could get in for 6 pence, the other option was the best....pay as you go. Then the only reason I was able to get into the stand once at Telford Street was when my next door neighbour, who is ten years older than me, bought my ticket for me. Guess I was lucky but I just didn't realise it at the time. Now, I would have him come over to stay with me in Canada at the drop of a hat but he doesn't seem too interested in such a long journey.....some 5,000 miles, with planeing , deplaneing and replaneing again. Ulp. But, I didn't realise it at the time but that visit was insidious and I then I wanted more...it was an "event" and I suppose I also felt that I wanted to be "one of the crowd" or something. Anyway getting the kids in the door is an absolute must for the club-free if necessary because if you get them hooked for ahatever reason you might well have a fan for life standing right there …...?

Judging by the comments on here so far, the defence seems to need a lot of work by Robbo,. I have always had the viewpoint that a strong defence is mandatory for a team to be, or aspire to becoming, a winner. If the opposing team can't score then they can't win. The word "complacency" seems to have, maybe, struck the whole team including J.R before this match. Too many wins against inferior and lower class teams prior to this match can do that. Was the emphasis on upgrading team fitness, perhaps, rather than on team work? If so, this must surely be a salutary lesson and allow John to reflect on setting a different course from now on? The defence can't go far away from their area of play to mix it up and the forwards can roam with impunity ONLY if they strongly have confidence in the defence. And if the ball can be kept up the park then they can exercise their latent talents by experimenting with confidence and ease....i.e. with flair. Good luck John Robertson

Good point, Caley D. And good punt at these odds....unless you are referring to the score....smile.?

You are an amazing guy,Eagle for Caley. All that "way doon there" and you keep coming back strong and supportive. Through thick and thin. Truthfully, my own interest in ICT stems from a very long way back and definitely to my first attendances at games as a young teenage lad. Being part of a group, the passion, the excitement. And the football itself reflects your personal ambitions, your striving and why one needs a deep sense of fulfilment Whatever it is, It sticks. It's also like a drug and not only that but believing in something worthwhile is a stabilising force in one's life and a reason to keep on looking forward to something better. I think it is both emotional and spiritual.

But that's like life isn't it, Stirling Observer? You no sooner think that your mortgage is paid off and all your problems are under control and you can retire and just fade away, like old soldiers are supposed to, when something really nasty, and very time consuming to fix, comes right out of the blue and it seems to take nothing but time.....and time.....and time...… to sort out.

My first bike was one which my father built for me and then, one fine day, a brand new Vindec appeared on my birthday to my complete astonishment. Was I ever chuffed because it was a cross between a standard bike and a racer. And according to my mammy I went like the wind up and down Dunain Road. Whee! . i.e Until that fateful day at the end of WW2 when on a rainy day I was careering down the street on what I remember to be "VICTORY DAY" and hit the manhole cover covered in rain near the carse. Rammed on the brakes and catapulted head forward for a very unpleasant meeting with the tarmac and a bloody nose. The lesson I learned that day was a good one "Go faster, boy, and don't hit the brakes!!"? YESS!!!!!

Hearts field ineligible player against Cove
Scarlet Pimple replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
Maybe it was an innocent mistake, but if they let Hearts off lightly then the other teams will, probably, rightly shout...."Foul. Guilty as charged M'Lud, what's the verdict? " There is no point in having rules if a senior-placed team does not ensure they comply. They must comply and have to set an example to all other teams, especially aspiring teams climbing up the ladder behind them. The rules are the Jooles, M'Lud.? -
Jake was let go for more than one reason but it was his own lack of professionalism that sewed the seeds of inadequacy about his career at ICT.. His on- the- field tantrums belied the fact that he was probably not as wonderful as he felt about himself. And screaming and shouting , kicking things, etc., was quite unacceptable and eventually would probably have brought accusations that the club were allowing this kind of very unprofessional stuff to take place uncontrolled. He's really young though isn't he, so once he gets established both he and his mouth will probably learn that often discretion is the better part of valour. Or, in my past business activity, as one upstart young male employee of mine told me as I fired him for refusing to carry out my instructions about how to do a job, and was lambasting him for not doing the work at all, in the process jeopardising the retention of a very valuable business contract... "you will get more with honey than with vinegar, Scarlet! " Or must we remember .."Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings come forth words of wisdom." ?

Well that's all folks! Last night I was watching International rugby "seven's" on the tele and Scotland vied for supremacy against one of the African teams whose big and very speedy forwards bedazzled the Scottish team by scoring 4 goals to nothing by half time . By half-time It looked as if Scotland were about to suffer a terrible defeat. Then the revolution started and Scotland really turned it on in the second half demonstrating great passing, and left the other team standing with brilliant run after run and ended up scoring a ton in the second half. They got their last, and winning, goal in the very last few seconds of the match when the ref awarded a try after consulting the beaks and the T .V. What a match! And what a transformation in their play. And for their first half display of power, swift passing and electric pace all credit to the black boys. Oh and they did score another goal in the 2nd half which reall6y put the cat among the pigeons and made for a tumultuous finish. And I did not see any bad fouls or deliberate attempts to injure one player.
