I did not know Matty, nor do I believe I ever met him, but can certainly appreciate the work he did at ICT. My condolences to those who held him dear and who are grieving at this time.

If they get to the next round I am sure there will be a plaque put up in Reykjavik. They will of course look after it so it does not decay.

Oh man - where to start with this topic !!! The town centre is a mess, the priorities of the planners seem misguided (to be kind) and whoever is responsible for that cluster**** that are the lights on the Kessock bridge needs a P45 ! .... and dont get me started on the future incidents of infrastructure myopia waiting in the wings such as the "airport" railway stop that wont be at the airport, or the 'ring road' swing bridge that should have been a tunnel ! It has been interesting (and depressing) to look at the decline of the Town Centre as well as the infrastructure around the whole area on our last few trips home. This is supposed to be the capital of the Highlands, the hub to all points north and west yet the decision makers blunder from one bad decision to the next burning through endless amounts of cash in the process. The only good decision I think I have read more recently has been the idea to move the courts nearer the police station (this should have been done decades ago to save on costs/transportation and bureaucracy) and make the castle - our most imposing and tourist worthy building - the focal point of the town centre that tourists can visit without encountering the jakiest citizens of the burgh on a daily basis. I dont know the answer for our town centre but it is not some tilting bridge or some flagstones that look like they just weren't installed properly and have lifted ! There must be some local artists who can be showcased for a lot less than this. Heck, why not use the empty shop frontage or even the shops themselves to showcase local artists and give them a leg-up in spaces they might not have been able to afford .... We have a ton of tacky tartan souvenir shops all over the town but I know from our own trips elsewhere where we always seek out at least one good quality local souvenir that we can put in our cabinet as a reminder, that many tourists might appreciate the opportunity to buy some real local art and plough money back into the local economy. Even if a shop cannot be leased out or allowed to be used for these purposes, perhaps sprucing up the frontage might be a good idea .... I am struggling to find it now, so the image to the left will have to do, but I remember taking a picture I had intended to give to Mike Smith (former ICT Chief Exec and now City Centre Supremo) of what they did when revitalising a huge shopping mall here in Toronto that struck me as a potentially good and cheap idea for Inverness. A corporation basically bulldozed the old "Don Mills Centre" and replaced it with the "Shops at Don Mills". This went against the norm at the time because it was demolishing an indoor shopping mall and replacing it with an outdoor space with a "small town centre" feel. When they opened, more than half of it was empty, but in the empty spaces they put window displays or painted streetscapes or just added some local art. It made it look very nice. The feelings from around the time were mixed to say the least (not least because many pensioners in the area lost their gathering spot in the old decrepit mall) but nowadays its a trendy and fashionable urban village with not an empty space to be found. Even if it did not work out that way in Inverness, perhaps some sprucing up and making the most of some of our most architecturally interesting buildings would at least make the town centre feel less depressing. 2009 article : http://www.blogto.com/city/2009/05/the_shops_at_don_mills/ 2016 article : http://urbantoronto.ca/news/2016/05/cadillac-fairviews-shops-don-mills-becoming-more-pedestrian-friendly

Feel even better about the result now that Ronaldo has been bleating like an Icelandic lamb .... very ungracious ... Icelandic grapes ... unlike Ronaldo, these arent sour

Oh I love it when that smug grin is wiped off Ronaldo's face. Well done Iceland! a battling performance and a well earned point.

merged two topics started around same time.

Interesting article. I read the comments of Tommy Wilson with interest as it pertains to MLS but its really chalk and cheese. There is a requirement for all MLS teams to have an academy and these form part of the 'must have' items when any new team pays its $100m fee to be awarded an MLS franchise. The financial numbers in MLS, with every team backed by big owners, are colossal in comparison to the SPFL but the stated aim is the same - to develop the game in the USA to a point where they are perpetual powerhouses in the Copa America and World Cup. Canada - by default - may benefit from this because Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto also have academies with a focus on developing Canadian talent and both Edmonton and Ottawa have emerged from the lower leagues to be potential MLS candidates in coming years too. Not sure about the youth academies in Montreal and Vancouver but the Toronto one is regarded as being world class and has seen a conveyor belt of players come through into the first team over the last 10 years and recent Canadian squads have had a total of 17 - mostly U23 - players (out of 32 used) who play their football domestically for one of the three Canadian MLS teams. Interesting times ahead in 5-10 years I think. I know from speaking with a few folk around the club on my recent trip that ICT realise how important youth is and I think we will definitely see some movement on this front but its a hard sell to a lot of other folk. We dont have a lot of money, but you do need money to develop youth. youth will not impact the team instantly so in some eyes its not money well spent. The challenge seems to be persuading some folk that a long term 5-10 year strategy is worth it and how to balance that with budgets elsewhere. Its a huge juggling act when you are operating a business that by default makes a loss every year without cup runs and cash windfalls but once its up and running then it has the potential to be a conveyor belt like some other clubs have. It was also interesting to read Willie Miller mention Iceland and Scot Gemmill minimise them saying we beat them recently (and therefore inferring we must be better) as thats puts both sides of the argument in a nutshell for me. I dont think I have ever said this before but I agree with Willie Miller and Scot Gemmill reminds me of the old duffers at Park Gardens in Ernie Walker's day who believed Scotland were a world power who would always be that without effort !!! Iceland is a good example of football on the rise and the scale is comparable to Scotland. In fact, they only have 325,000 inhabitants so what they have achieved in the last few years is nothing short of remarkable and a testament to the plan they set out to achieve. The FIFA rankings also dont lie (much) ... Iceland has climbed from 110 to 33 in the last 5 years and are running out at Euro 2016, whereas Scotland have typically hovered in the 45-55 range and haven't qualified for a major tournament since France 98. Another good article to read is this one: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/jan/30/volcano-iceland-national-football-team . We stopped in Iceland for 5 days on our way back from our recent trip and to say they are fanatical about their football is an understatement. The national stadium holds only 15000 fans (and only 9800 seated) but there are stadia all over the place. We had lunch in a small town called Grindavik (pop 3000) and it has a tidy looking 1700 capacity single stand stadium. There are 4 divisions of 12-12-12-10 and 4 more provincial/regional leagues of 7-7-7-6 clubs for a total of 73 teams !!! They know they have their limitations, but as they do in life, they also set out to overcome those limitations in sport and it seems to have met with an element of success. I am going to be cheering them on later today as they face up to the challenge of Portugal !

Really? That is a pretty sweeping generalisation, what facts are you using to back that potentially defamatory statement up? RCFC prices are pretty good, BOTH clubs are for that matter, but the only £165 ticket RCFC seem to offer is the over65/student ticket in the Jailend ..... On the ICT site it notes disabled prices are in line with the age groups but carers - if required - can have a free ticket. The Ross County site has no reference to disabled prices whatsoever on their pricing page and nothing in the notes so unless you called them I dont know where you got that. These are the FULL prices from both clubs and if you were early enough you could have got 10% off the ICT tickets making them cheaper than County in some instances. Like I said, both clubs are pretty good, certainly far better value for money than most other Premiership sides. ICT Main Stand (adult 26+) = £380 / County = £360 ICT Main Stand (young adult 16-25) = £280 / County £ no equivalent ICT Main Stand (U16) = £130 / County = £80 (U18) ICT Main Stand (U12) = £70 / County = £25 (U18) ICT Main Stand (65+) = £ 310 / County £210 dropping to £105 over 75 ICT North Stand (adult 26+) = £330 / County = £300 ICT North Stand (young adult 16-25) = £200 / County £ no equivalent ICT North Stand (U16) = £110 / County = £80 (U18) ICT North Stand (U12) = £FREE / County = £25 (U18) ICT North Stand (65+) = £ 220 / County £165 dropping to £82.50 over 75 ... off to have a shower now after visiting that website over the bridge.

What is the current state of the MLS in N America?
Scotty replied to Scarlet Pimple's topic in General Football
17,800 at the Caps game last night and the Ottawa coach is one mr Paul Dalglish. Was looking forward to seeing TFC playing Ottawa in the final after their 2-0 win in the first leg, but I guess the Caps will have to do. game scheduled for next week in Toronto then the 2nd leg in Vancouver a week later. Our second team more or less shut down Drogba and co last night in the 0-0 draw although it should have been easier for TFC after leading 4-0 in the first leg before Drogba scored one and made the other in the last 5 minutes for a 4-2 final score. -
ok, here goes nothing ! a tutorial on how to create custom streams ...... and how to set them as default. I have made the images smaller - just click on them to view full size. There are a bunch of default streams you can choose from to be displayed when you 'view new content'. The overall site default is to display "unread content" and this displays any content you have not read but will go to the top of the page you have not read rather than the first unread post. The others are pretty self explanatory too. Whatever you set as the default will also get set on the top right corner of the site too. To adjust the default, or to filter things a different way, or to make a totally new set of search filters you must create a "custom stream". This can be done in two ways. You can click the create new stream button found at the top menu and it will give you a new page with a bunch of options - which are not explained here but are shown in these screenshots - or you can use the dropdowns in the stream itself to tweak it (which is what I have detailed below. In your case (Scarlet) you want the site to go to the first unread post of each topic when you click the topic title (or the little star) in the list of topics. To do this is quite simple. You simply change the 'unread item links take me to ther top of the page' to the one below which says first unread comment. As soon as you make this change, or any other change, you will see the page adds a new dialogue prompting you to save these changes. Click the 'save as new stream' button. NOTE: If you click 'Dont Save' then it will revert to default, if you click "Save these changes?" it will do nothing as thats not a link ! and if you browse away from the page it will also do nothing as you have not saved anything yet. A box will now open and give you the option to save the stream as whatever you want. Enter the name you want to know it by and click 'create stream'. Your stream is now created The page will reload and your new stream will be what is displayed. You now have a few options. The three icons next to the stream title are 'edit name', 'delete' or 'set as default'. Set your new stream as default and the checkmark will turn green. It will also update the 'new content' link at the top of the page so that now, whenever you view new content, this is the behaviour. (load unread topics and when clicked go to first unread post). Your 'custom stream' is now listed in the menu at the top and you can use it or any other stream you want, There are no limits to how many different streams you can create.

its normal behaviour : If you go to a forum list of topics (eg: http://caleythistleonline.com/forum/4-caley-thistle/ ) and click on the dot or star to the left of the topic title you will go to the last post you read. The dot means you havent posted in the thread, the star means you have posted in the thread thats the only difference in whats displayed. If however you are viewing the 'unread' posts link, then this is actually a search and clicking the title will take you to the top of the page of posts. Use the filter above the results labelled "READ STATUS" and change it to the other option (first unread). click save as new stream and give it a name. now when it loads you will see the new results as before but clicking on the topic title will take you to first unread post rather than the top of the page. if you click the little tick to make this search the default then it will also show up in this format when you click unread posts at top of page. This allows users to build searches that suits their use of the site and set it as their own defaults rather than making do with the defaults ,....

Was thinking that .... He's always been touted as a future manager for us, but what cemented his commitment to ICT in my mind was that he didn't follow his mentor Terry Butcher to Hibs like he did when Butcher came to Inverness: A quick Google search shows how much Butcher meant to Foran, and by extension, how much Inverness CT, his family and the area must mean to him now. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/richie-foran-wants-to-repay-terry-1556528#I04sewp0sqUbm1RD.97 http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/My-career-was-saved-by-Terry-Butchers-wife-says-ex-Carlisle-Utd-ace-Richie-Foran-bb878e1e-03c9-4b28-9a70-9b05055a100a-ds There is also an excellent BBC article by Martin Dowden here that I think nails it in terms of our managerial dilemma : http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36348419

In this post game video blog I take a brief look back at the last four games for TFC that I did not blog about (you know, Altidore and Seba getting hurt, Bradley and Johnson away on International duty, the 2 pts out of 12 available run, and why there is not yet reason to panic). I take a look back at a memorable night against the Impact in the 2016 Voyageurs Cup Semi Final first leg. I also take a look at what might be some questionable mathematics on my part to try and explain the possible outcomes next week in Montreal. I look at what might be a wonderful new derby against Ottawa Fury if they too can close the deal against Vancouver. Finally I plead with Greg Vanney to take the next game as seriously as Montreal did this one. Your comments are always welcome and appreciated. Let us know what you thought of the game. IF he has done his badges (I assume he has as its required) then I am cautiously optimistic. Those courses are pretty intensive and thorough. He's clearly a man with an inspirational leadership style, and from what I hear more attached to the area than some of his predecessors. He's never been a shrinking violet so with an experienced #2 - of his own choosing - to assist and mentor him, and to help minimise the inevitable mistakes or tactical naivety that will inevitably surface I think he could do well. Craig Brewster (first time round) and Charlie Christie both did fine as SPL managers with little experience. One thing I did like in his statement was that he was immediately hanging up his boots to concentrate on being a manager. That, to me, shows a level of determination to succeed. When Brewster came to us first time round, he tried to combine the two, thinking he could be both a manager and a "Roy of the Rovers" style player who could manage from on the pitch. It doesnt seem to work at the top level so fair play to RF for electing to do only one job .... hopefully for all our sakes he does it well !

Richie Foran has been appointed the new manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC on a four year contract. Club Chairman Kenny Cameron said: “We are delighted to have Richie on board as the new manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC and we believe the length of contract demonstrates commitment on both sides.” “The board received and reviewed a high number of applications for the vacant position and Richie quickly became our preferred candidate. This was cemented further during several meetings to discuss the role, his approach and view for the future. Our decision that he is the right man to lead the club was unanimous and we look forward to working closely with him on the next stage of what has been a remarkable journey.” “Richie has been a great asset to the club, both on and off the park, since joining us in 2009. He particularly understands the blend of spirit, values and togetherness that makes the club what it is. The influence and passion he exhibited as a player, combined with his clear determination and knowledge will all serve him well when it comes to building on and enhancing the club’s qualities." “It was only a matter of time before Richie stepped up into a management role and that time has come." Richie Foran commented: “This is a great opportunity and one I am going to relish. My intention will be to preserve continuity at the club while bringing a new freshness and playing style.” “Joining Caley Thistle seven years ago has proved a marvellous decision. Thanks to coming to the Highlands I now have a lovely wife, two lovely children and have had the most enjoyable part of my playing career.” “But I will now give up playing to fully focus on making a success of my new job. I want to push to bring further success to Caley Thistle, a special club in a special community.” Richie added: “I want to play exciting, attacking football which entertains the supporters.” “I’ve identified areas in our play that I think I can improve, and I’ve identified what kind of players we need to bring in to improve our team.” “My target is to further strengthen the unity between supporters, directors, management and players – when we signal that we’re all on the same wavelength, that makes a huge difference.” “I’ve been fortunate, as club captain, to have an excellent relationship with the fans and I hope we can all move on with a scenario where everyone is focused on helping the team go forward.” He added: “I would like to most sincerely thank the chairman and his fellow directors, for showing such faith in giving me this opportunity.” “My aim going forward is to justify their choice and give the supporters something to cheer about.” Richie concluded: “There will be no wild predictions from me, I’ll now be getting on with the job quietly. I’m working on recruitment so that we’re ready to work hard when the squad returns for pre-season training.” Richie has been instrumental in the success the club have had over the past few years. He has worn the captain’s armband with great pride during his 209 appearances, contributing 45 goals along the way…and we look forward to him writing the next chapter in the clubs short, but already memorable history. Due to the already short window ahead of the new season, Richie wishes to concentrate on squad preparations and it’s his intention to meet with the press later in June. He has also asked that we follow this (on the same day) with a ‘Fans Evening’ for season ticket holders so they too have an opportunity to put questions to him, members of the board and a selection of players. This will be held at the stadium and further details will be provided in due course.
