I agree. consistency has always been the problem, but it looks like these new SPL "guidelines" are going to force clubs to be consistent as they will be responsible for the behaviour of both home and away fans in their stadium

a self-moderating poster. well done that man :001:

The Official Website has taken the step of publishing the guidelines under which they take action against supporters. I wont comment on the merits of the individual cases discussed on here over the last few weeks, but as you can see in that article, and in the attached PDF file, it is pretty clear cut about what will and will not be tolerated ...... It is a sad fact of life, but the club can and will get punished by the SPL for breaches in security/behaviour that make it into the officials' reports. A few choice parts of the statement ...... "The Club has an obligation under its Ground Safety Certificate and SPL/SFA Rules for ensuring the safety of the fans, its staff and any contracted employees at matches at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. The recently introduced SPL Rules on Unacceptable Conduct puts further commitments on the Club for the actions of both the home and away fans at matches." "At game v Arbroath on Tuesday 28th August which had an attendance of 1,246 there were two recorded incidents both involving persons in the home stands. One person in the West Stand was arrested by the Police for a Breach of the Peace (for alleged foul and abusive language and failing to desist) which is a criminal offence. This person has been written to by the Club informing him that he is currently banned from the stadium but inviting him to a meeting with senior management at the Club to review his position. That meeting has now been arranged". [so not a life ban as suggested by posters on here !] "The second person was ejected from the West Stand for foul and abusive language to a steward. This 17 year old and his parents met with the senior management of the Club and having admitted the offence, was banned for five games. The Club's disciplinary process includes the right of appeal but written confirmation has been received that no appeal against the Club's action is being made".[This other person was also mentioned in the postings and it seems has accepted his 'wrongdoing'.] "At the game v Hearts on Saturday 22nd September .... two people were refused admission to the South (away) Stand for being under the influence of alcohol. During the game two people were ejected from the South Stand for persistent standing. Details of these persons will be reported to Hearts. A person from the North (home) Stand was arrested by the Police for the criminal offence of Breach of the Peace for entering the field of play. That person will have his position reviewed by the senior management of the Club but in the meantime will be banned from the Stadium". guidelines.pdf

Aye, thats all in the Scotsman article right enuff .... with the exception of one crucial part ...... Yes, you have got it right in the past, IHE, and you will no doubt get it right again many times ..... but it stays in here until that paragraph actually appears in an article and references ICT :004:

We accept no responsibility for any of the things we have helped to facilitate ..... I know of two weddings, several relationships, many hangovers and a few other things where this site has been part of the circumstances ....... but if we help you win the lottery, please remember us :023:

Freedom of Speech is fine depending on what is being said ..... if it is factual and not defamatory then fair enough, but freedom of speech does not give anyone the right to cross the line and abuse/defame others. I dont know that forum so cant comment on what I think of its content.

I knew that .... why I typed "sands" (a 1949 John Wayne film) I will never know ..... lets blame it on the fact that it was 6am in my world !!! Despite the title screw up, the films were both pretty good and I liked the way that you saw an "end result" in one film (like the Americans discovering the Japanese soldiers who had killed themselves, or the American soldier who went missing from his trench) and then you saw the event in the other film. Think you definitely have to watch both of them in quick succession and enjoy those "ahhh - thats what happened" moments.

I never like "the office" when I was in Inverness, but after moving over here, I started watching it on BBC Canada and started enjoying it. However, I am not so sure that RG is that funny ... cringeworthy is an apt description for me and the comedy seems to come from the fact - as CaleyD mentioned - that we see character traits in there from former bosses or work colleagues so in that respect it is either genius or luck on his part to tap into that. To call him a one dimensional sitcom comedian seems about right and in that respect I would far rather watch comedians like Matt Lucas & David Walliams, or the 3 black women in "3 non blondes" who go for the shock value in their sketches to make it funny. One of the cleverest and funniest sitcoms I have watched recently was "coupling" and its no surprise that the Americans tried to copy it but couldnt make the complex comedy work, whereas their version of the (one dimensional and simple) office was a smash hit ... says it all really !!! However, none of them surpass my comedy god ..... a man that makes me fall off my chair laughing or laugh so hard I have tears coming down my cheeks and that man is Billy Connolly. I was watching his "30 years erect" video at the weekend and could not stop laughing, and then went on youtube to find a few more clips and loved the Ibiza joke !

Are you talking of the recent Clint Eastwood "Sands of Iwo Jima" ? if so, then you also have to watch "Flags of our Fathers" which is basically the same battle but shown from the other side and with other parts of a story. I watched both films back-to-back and it was interesting how some of the same events were shown in both but from different perspectives.

It does seem like a heavy handed approach but who knows what went on in the background before the club decided to take that action !!! Did they ask the site to be a bit more pro-active in moderating? Did they warn people or try to resolve it amicably? or did they just go straight for the jugular? I am not aware of how that SW site is run but if it is run responsibly the site owners should not be in any trouble. I had several conversations with the SportNetwork lawyers about this a few years ago and basically site owners/administrators have a responsibility (or a duty of care) to remove anything they are sure is offensive or may breach any laws (which we do and get hassled about all the time !). So long as they do this in a reasonable timescale there should be nothing to worry about (we try). It was also mentioned that site owners should also give people (registered users or guests) an avenue they can take to complain about postings/content (we have several methods). Posters however are the ones who are ultimately responsible and accountable for the actual content within their posts which is why we do try to moderate things fairly without either under or over moderating. its a pretty hard balancing act where it is easy to annoy either the club or posters but we try to be as fair as we can. I like to think we have a decent relationship with our club and although there are times when this relationship can be strained because of content or opinions they are perhaps not thrilled about, I have to say that they have very seldom raised any concerns about postings or asked us to remove content. After 13 years, I like to think I have a pretty decent handle on what is ok and what is not so maybe its a sign that we are, for the most part, doing it right !!!

The simple fact is that, although rife in certain places, anyone showing live footage of any games within the UK between the hours of 2:45pm and 5:15pm is doing so illegally, or at least contrary to current UEFA blackout restrictions as well as arrangements in place with the media partners of both the English Premiership and SPL. Thats why live games on a Saturday are shown at times like 12:30 or 5:30 or moved to a Sunday or Monday. If clubs want to show Saturday 3pm games from their own websites or through a third party like internetfootball.co.uk, they can, but only to viewers outside the UK. Clubs can also stream audio from any game, including from the Saturday 3pm ones if they want and when they do, the BBC is frequently forced to block the audio outside the UK (which is a pain in the backside) as they only have rights inside the UK when clubs exercise their worldwide audio rights. Its a feckin minefield and one that needs to be looked at if the SPL want to get their "football tourism" initiative off the ground ! The solution seems really simple to me ..... stream the audio for free over the BBC to all listeners in the UK. They already do this so no problem there. stream the audio for a nominal charge over the BBC to worldwide listeners and get the BBC to pay a portion of it back to SPL. Again a no-brainer. The BBC have the capability and as I dont pay for a BBC (TV) License then I am happy to pay a reasonable sum for this service. Free would be good, but so long as the price was reasonable, I would sign up. stream the video for all clubs over the SPL website and charge a subscription for your chosen team. Some clubs who use PTV (like Kilmarnock, Rangers, Hearts etc) already have this service in place but other clubs using the same provider (like ICT) do not. Centralise it and let fans watch/listen to their chosen team !
