instead of ex-manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle and "Hearts legend John Robertson", who would have announced that we probably won't go up this year, so save your money :D Maybe we could make a rule that no-one's allowed to have played for a team better than ICT I'm not actually a big supporter of Butcher (I probably mainly agree with Renegade believe it or not) but some of this criticism is banal.

I thought he did amazingly well at Coventry. Ok at Sunderland. Good at 'Well. Not enough time with Burnley or Sydney. Can you explain why you don't or are you just looking at the sackings (in which case, would you then count Alex Ferguson, Arrigo Sacchi and Jose Mourinho as bad managers as they have also been sacked). Butcher was never manager of high flyers Burnley, he was actually sacked after a horrific managerial display at then lowly Brentford. And on your second point, none of those managers have been sacked time and time again, unlike a certain Mr Butcher. None of those aforemetioned names ever had a decent playing career (or in Mourinho's case, no playing career at all), and IMO that says something for their managerial skills when essentially mediocre (and sometimes not even) players (and in Sacchi's case, a shoe salesman!), can make it up to the heights of managing the sort of clubs they have. Mr Butcher on the other hand, is a hugely well known player, and with someone with his sort playing career as manager of a team like ICT, shows to me that his managerial skills leave a lot of be desired. Sorry Brentford. They went through managers like water, which suggests deeper problems than Butcher. Ferguson was a decent player I believe. I don't think that a good playing career = good manager (which is why I was against Gary McAllister getting the Scotland job without proving himself) but I don't think it's the other way around either. You say 'sacked time and time again' but were they fair sackings? Look at the list and what I thought of what he did at those jobs, then tell me if you disagree and why (if you want of course). Bobby Robson had a good few sackings, would we dismiss him (I know, I know, but if he was)? If Butcher was sacked now, then he could quite rightly add ICT to Brentford and Sydney as jobs where he wasn't given enough time to prove himself. He's been hired on the strength of a good run last season to get ICT promoted. I believe in giving a man time to do a job. He's only halfway through. 3/4 of the season left, then it's time to start re-assessing the situation for a longer term goal.

Butcher wasn't my first choice and I'm not convinced he is the long-term option, as I'd prefer the 'empire building' that Pele did, but at the same time, I'm not sure if many would do much better. It's the lack of players IMHO at centre-back and attacking mid. Now part of that blame lies with Butcher for not employing good enough players in that position. But then again, would another manager have been able to find replacements for Mihadjuks, Cowie and Black so easily too, given both budgetary constraints and location?

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/cups...86908-21843321/ The ratings weren't much better. They bear no relation to either the game or the comment associated. If Nauris was so good, how come he gets the least marks? If it all went wrong for Duncan, how come he's up there with most of the rest? Ryan Esson 6 No chance with any of the goals. Safe pair of hands otherwise. Ross Tokely 6 Lucky to get away with second-half slip. Nauris Bulvitis 5 Thundered into challenges from start. Decent distribution from back too. Grant Munro 6 Skipper led by example but couldn't prevent second-half collapse. Stuart Golabek 6 Played as though this would be his last final albeit his efforts were in vain. David Proctor 7 Calm and composed in holding role. Danni Sanchez 6 Caused Dundee defence all sort of problems. Fast and tricky. Russell Duncan 6 Fought tooth and nail to gain Inverness a foothold before it all went wrong. Richie Foran 8 Too much for Dark Blues defence early on. Took both goals expertly well. Adam Rooney 7 On fire in first half and worked socks off. Jonny Hayes 7 Got off to a flier and pinpoint crossing caused chaos in opposition penalty box. Subs: Lee Cox - did fine for last 20 minutes, 4. Dougie Imrie - sent off for foul on Clarke, 1. Eric Odhiambo - failed to conjure up late equaliser, 1.

Sometimes best not to read too much here Presley. Fans often don't treat the players as human. I'd certainly hate to read about my family on here.

I heard the same thing when Walter Smith took over. That turned out alright. Then it was a popular job when McLeish got it. He did ok too. I don't see the players have changed significantly in that time. Simply, Burley's strength in seeking out talent and playing an attacking game didn't work out for Scotland. Player for player, we are at least the equal of Wales and Norway and, IMHO, a bit better. Ask yourself this, a couple of years ago, would the job be such a poisoned chalice? What's changed since then? The talent or just some poor tactics/team building?

No, but I don't think he's doing as badly as people make out. Still challenging for the title after only being in the job a few months, whilst rebuilding the team. Alex Ferguson was failing at Manchester United at the same time Butcher has been here. Long-term, he's probably not the solution if we don't win promotion as we'll have to get used to be in the second tier of football, building from the ground-up - and I don't mean just the first team. That means a more local base for little money. I know some will say 'let's start asap by getting rid of Butcher' but he hasn't failed yet. Let's give the team a bit of support before we condemn them too soon.

A scooter when I was about 7 or 8. In reality, all I did was go round and round a roundabout, but in my imagination, the sky was the limit (actually, it wasn't 'coz I even went to outer space!)

I presume there's a lot of work being done in the background to get someone else in central defence. If we can't get anyone decent, then what choice do we have? I suspect he'll stay, seeing as he's played every game (IIRC).

I saw Jackie Copland in a St Mirren v Dundee Utd match in the 80s fire a practice shot over the bar. It hit one of the steps behind th goal and smashed into a little girls face. Jackie was so apologetic... ...actually he wasn't! Poor girl was crying her eyes out and he never even said sorry.

2 divisions of 16. Lose the likes of Albion Rovers, Stenhousemuir etc etc. They're leftovers from a bygone age when the population was structured differently. Now, they serve no professional or community interest as there are both bigger teams and junior clubs close by. All they do is hold clubs down. Teams such as Stranraer, Berwick, QoS might never hit the top but they serve a community (although I believe Berwick do it very badly, so maybe need an overhaul in the SW).

2-0 Up at halftime. what would you have done?
starchief replied to Harry Chibber's topic in Caley Thistle
I would probably have done much the same. I don't think it was the Sanchez switch. It was not having a solid enough defence when a better team turned it on. If we could have brought on Mihadjuks or the like, then we could have won it. An extra defensive mid and they still over ran us. They're a good team. Sometimes you just have to take it on the chin and say 'we just don't have the players at the back'. Attack isn't always the best form of defence. See George Burley or Berti Vogts against Craig Brown or Walter Smith. Horses for courses. (actually, I'd have switched Proctor to sweeper and probably taken Foran off, then put on Cox in a 5-4-1 formation - Sanchez playing a bit deeper) -
LOL too true!. How about putting in Imrie at GK. He'd be running about everywhere - mostly to pick the ball out of the net mind you.

What's that you say? You're uploading it to a torrent? Well done that man!

Roy Keane wouldn't have said anything in the dressing room. He'd have already sabotaged his team's chances by walking out on them.

Although my wife is fluent in English, it's still not her native language. She does pick up on some crazy terms we have. Such as when a letter told her to wait in the 'vestibule'. She asked what it was, I told her it was French for hall. Why not just say 'hall' then? There's no real answer to that. And she loves nursery rhymes. Now there's madness. The Grand Old Duke of York - 'neither up nor down'. What the hell is that all about? How can a dish run away with a spoon?
-
Actually I don't think he would have. Cheating is ok. Steal what you can. It's the authorities fault for not catching you. It's this 'professionalism' that turns so many off 'sport'. Spot on. Although, I expect the response from the Neanderthals on P&B was: "that's p!$%" - with no further reasoning.

Guess who my big team is? Tiocfaidh ar la. Probably Scotland. I would imagine most Scots would want to see that. I certainly would. No Celtic connection for me (quite the opposite in my family's case).

Did you see that the Olympic committee stripped Bahrain of their only gold medal. The athlete was a drugs cheat. Well....I say cheat. He was just trying to gain an advantage. If the drug-testing programme hadn't managed to get a positive result, then it's that which is at fault. Not the athlete. He was just trying to win and sometimes, without really meaning it, runners try to bend the rules. It's just what he was trained to do. Many runners do and have done it, so it's actually fine... .....n'est-ce pas?

That's what I was just saying. Born in Canada. Brought up in Scotland. Live in Egypt. Ancestors from Ireland. NONE QUALIFIED! I know of no New Zealander, American or Australian connections. I won't support England 'coz of the whole rivalry thing (you think Manchester City supporters want United to win the League 'coz at least they'll bring the trophy back to Manchester?). The Auld Alliance with France is so auld as to be virtually non-existant. So who now?

I don't think an under-18 ban should be imposed at all. As long as they're not being abusive (and let's face it, that's nothing to do with age), that's fine. I can remember one certain teen lady here was told to not complain, when she quite rightly responded that she was being supportive of Brewster for months but only got attacked for it. And yet, without her making any (that I can remember) derogatory comments, she should be banned? Definitely no age barrier. And, what do you mean by respect? I certainly get offended by the Islamophobia spoken about by certain members on here. Should that be banned? If not, should anti-Semitism, homophobia, anti-black be ok too? I can't believe anyone hates Renegade. I disagree with about 90% of his posts but certainly enjoy reading them probably more than anyone else's.

Yeah, Collins hasn't done enough. A few bad results and he couldn't take the pressure. Plus, we've seen what happens when we put our faith in Kris Commons or whoever to play attacking football. Just doesn't work. I'd like to see Jim Jefferies get it. He's the right age for the job. He's pragmatic about results and he worked wonders with both Hearts and Falkirk, plus done well keeping Killie with their cuts in the SPL - sometimes in the top 6. The negative point is Bradford but he made millions for them, whilst spending nothing. No-one else did any better to the point they dropped to the bottom rung of the English League.

I'm a Rangers fan really and so is my father

:oops01: yeah Wigan. Same result though.
