Can anyone explain to me the events of the last few days as the more I think about it the more confused I get :024: IHE told us Brewster was a cert for the job indeed that the deal had been agreed in principal months previously. It certainly appears that Brewster was the person ever likely to actually get the gig. So why waste time in reaching a decision that had already been made? If the powers that be truly think that Brewtser is the best man for the job why didn?t they come out and say it from the start? Why have a meeting with the fans to gauge there thoughts when a decision had already been made? Why go through the pretence of drawing up a shortlist and ?interviewing? candidates if you have your man already? Did Warnock expressing an interest actually throw a spanner in the works?? Re-hiring Brewster was always going to be controversial but the way it?s been done really baffles me. Smoke & Mirrors,

Guess it's official now LINK Former Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock and St Johnstone's Owen Coyle were also on Caley Thistle's shortlist, but Brewster was always their preferred option. :007:
-
Just listened to the 12 O'clock MFR news. There story is carefully worded. They believe Brewster will be named as manager on Monday according to a 'source'. They then go on to say his first game in charge will be against Arbroath. It's not official but the writings on the wall

Should Park be allowed to stay? :tic01: He & CC have apparently allowed the players to become so unfit they are unable to win any games Only Super Brew can save us now!! :029: :tic01: :sillywave: :tic01: :sillywave: :tic01:

I think so and righjtly too. Donald has shown himself to be a true pro, working amongst some amateurs at times. I am sure he an CB will perform brilliantly thegither. How many people left with Brew? 4, was it? It will be him and his kit bag coming back. It is no small thing for him to return. It also shows a fair amount of guts. As we have sen from this site, there are many people wanting him to fail, for some reason. I am sure he is aware of this. No one wants him to fail we are scared he will fail

Agreed, its the team first..thats who we all support, the board made the decision which i'm sure will be the right one. As for Warnock, probably too pricey and too much of a loose cannon. He could well have been our price league unfortunately we are never really going to know are we. The board took a bold risk with the signing of the highest profile player in our history a few weeks ago and now this. Seems like 1 step forward - 2 steps back :029:

You are right Yngwie it just may take me a while to get there. Feels a bit like I've been kicked in the nuts at the moment (if you'll pardon my French!) Bennet MUST have great faith in Brewster as if he's got this one wrong he'll have to go as well :024:

Looks like the fat lady has sung I'm afraid :019:

:008: FECK Let's just hope they've made the right choice then eh? Otherwise......

Warnock "I could definately see myself at ICT"

I believe the club have spoken to Warnock's agent - whether it got any further than that is another matter -
Warnock "I could definately see myself at ICT"
kencar replied to kiltarlity's topic in Caley Thistle
P&J article has some 'interesting' quotes.... "Brewster's willingness to relocate gives him a clear advantage on his rivals" Caley Thistle director of football Graeme Bennett admitted yesterday the chances of having a replacement on board before tomorrow's visit of Dundee United are slim. "We have a shortlist, but we might come into problems with clubs, wages and compensation. It would be wrong to name individuals as we could fall flat on our face. "We might find out certain candidates are not available and our list could be down to one. We are not ruling anyone in or out. There are no guarantees and if you look at Neil Warnock, there are a host of issues, not least relocation." Top Tip for everyone - next time you draw up a 'shortlist' make sure the option you want is the only one that's ever going to get picked :008: Is it just me or do you not think it might have been a good idea to check out people's availability, etc BEFORE drawing up the shortlist :023: -
Today's article in P&J makes pretty grim reading I'm afraid...... Aberdeen have given Caley Thistle permission to speak to Craig Brewster, but the former Inverness player-manager will not be in the dugout at Caledonian Stadium tomorrow. Brewster, former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock and St Johnstone manager Owen Coyle are the candidates in the running to succeed Charlie Christie, who resigned on Sunday. Brewster's willingness to relocate gives him a clear advantage on his rivals, but Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood has told the 40-year-old forward he will be involved at Easter Road against Hibernian tomorrow even if he secures a return to the Highlanders following his meeting today. Caley Thistle director of football Graeme Bennett admitted yesterday the chances of having a replacement on board before tomorrow's visit of Dundee United are slim. Bennett said: "The speculation about the prospective appointment is not far away and I do not think there will be any surprises this time. It is becoming more unlikely we will get someone in place before Saturday. Donald Park will take care of the team on Saturday and whoever comes in will not play an active part on Saturday, it is more realistic something will happen on Monday. "We have a shortlist, but we might come into problems with clubs, wages and compensation. It would be wrong to name individuals as we could fall flat on our face. "We might find out certain candidates are not available and our list could be down to one. We are not ruling anyone in or out. There are no guarantees and if you look at Neil Warnock, there are a host of issues, not least relocation." Should Brewster return to Inverness he will be able to register as a player provided an agreement is reached before the transfer window closes next Friday. Aberdeen assistant manager Jimmy Nicholl fears the worst as Brewster's hopes of a return to his former club increase. He said: "It is late in the week which is not very helpful for us, but it is a great chance for Craig. As a club we can't stand in his way." If Brewster does return to the club which gave him his break in football management, his departure will be sorely felt at Pittodrie. Nicholl, however, has urged Pittodrie forward Lee Miller to assume the mantle of the club's targetman in the veteran's absence. He said: "You could see what Craig brought to the side last week and Lee Miller could learn a lot from him. "The positions he takes up, the problems he gives defenders, his passing, everything is great. "Lee Miller doesn't have the pace of Darren Mackie or Steve Lovell, and if the manager wants the balance of a targetman and a quick forward, Lee has to take the things Brew does on board." Miller, Steve Lovell and Chris Maguire will be given the chance to fill the void if Brewster does return to Caley Thistle as player-manager. Nicholl added: "Brewster's reputation in the game as a great player is a well deserved one, but we have forwards at the club who deserve the chance to fill his boots."

Unfortunately I fear Brewster already has the job :008:
-
If they have talked to Brewster tonight you'd hope they'd at least be talking to Warnock & Coyle tomorrow
-
If we do appoint a manger tomorrow I don't think he'd be in the dugout on Saturday at all. Park will have worked with the players all week and will have worked out who's playing and what tactics to adopt. The new guy would be unlikely to have any input whatsoever

Maybe I miss heard them on Radio Scotland but I thought they said he'd be given his old job back?

Petition against Craig Brewster returning to ICT
kencar replied to KingBeastie's topic in Caley Thistle
Apparently 12 people on the messageboard are delighted by this news :023: -
What really puzzles me is the fact there are so many supporters who favour Brewster. I understand the reasoning of folk who don't want him back because of the 'loyalty' issue but the real concern for me is purely the footballing side. As mentioned elsewhere there seems to be a real better-the-devil-you-know mentality being shown by some fans. If Brewster hadn't been our manager before and was being judged purely on his DUFC record how could anyone possibly take him seriously. Time and again I hear how fit he got the team. Are we really that unfit now? Fair enough if the team they can run all day but without tactics and a gameplan to back that up it doesn't really matter Other arguments I've heard coming from the Pro-Brewster camp are 1.) How organised we were! Fair enough we were but it was dull as **** to watch. Trying to beat teams on the counter attack at home produced truly rubbish football to watch. It was a great idea away from home and worked well but it seemed to be our ONLY tactic 2. He's more experienced now!! Aye at losing :023: 3.) He wouldn't be so quick to leave us again. This is the one that truly stumps me. The nature of football is that the better you do the higher up the food chain you go whether that be as a player or manager. If you are doing well you attract attention from bigger fish that's always been the way of it and always will. If he's doing well there is no way that Brewster would turn down a move to say Celtic or Rangers is they came knocking 18 months down the line

Maybe I'll have to start reading the Daily Record as the article on there website says...... Warnock, the former Sheffield United manager, would have to be considered favourite for the job. :021:
-
Bit late to be telling us this 18 months later :023: Bit of spin doctoring perhaps? :rolleyes02:
-
Different spin on the story in todays P&J.... Warnock, who resigned as Sheffield United boss after they were relegated from the Premiership at the end of last season, is an outside bet. He said: "I would not be against working in Scotland, but I have not spoken to anybody at Inverness." The 58-year-old, who is visiting relatives at Dunoon, added: "It would be a challenge to pit my wits against the top two in Scotland. It would not be a step down at all, I have spent most of career taking on clubs with loads of money. "It is not difficult to get in contact with me, but nobody from Inverness has been in touch."
-
I think Brewster will be so grateful that he's been given such an undeserved second chance that his wage demands will be pretty reasonable. Another puppet for the real power at the club? :tic01: Nice to see the BBC website running with a very unbiased headline... Brewster set for Inverness return :023: P&J Online has some interesting comments from Warnock though.....

Better not tell anyone at Aberdeen that IHE. Willie Miller was adamant on Radio Scotland tonight that he hadn't spoken to anyone at ICT about anyone employed by AFC. So we'd have tapped Brewster illegally :023:
-
I don't think anyone on here should be giving Caley King a hard time just for expressing his opinion. I can't say I agree with everything he's said but I can sympathise with the frustration he's feeling right now. It's easy for folk who don't mind Brewster being our next manager to take the high moral ground. How do you think you'd feel if the board appointed someone you were vehemently apposed to. Trust me it's not a nice feeling At the end of the day what can you do as just one fan? Feck All :rolleyes02: Boycotting games won't make the slightest bit of difference and you are the only one loses out. I will still go to games no matter who our next manager turns out to be. I may not like who's in charge but I'll do my best to support the team. As far as I'm concerned it's up to Brewster to prove me wrong by turning out to be an excellent ICT manager. I'll be delighted to have to eat humble pie by the end of the season and beyond if he's successfull. I sincerely hope he does well cos lets face it as the alternative isn't very pleasant :029: PS By the time I managed to get this posted (some folk must have been typing fast!!) it did get a bit silly :014:

Shows what I know - I said he'd never play for Scotland :029:
