Yngwie is absolutely right and IMO it shows how ridiculous the official interpretation of the rule is. As a young referee back in the 70s/80s I found it nigh on impossible to give a definitive ruling on many occasions so had to resort to reaching the negative decision because you couldn’t be sure the whole of the ball was over the line - and this caused some heated arguments I still recall very well. Even these days, without the benefit of an overhead digital camera drawing lines on the screen for you the decision is always going to be controversial. Would it not be better to have the rule amended so that any clear grass between the line and the ball means it has crossed the line? So much simpler for everyone and especially for the refs in the lower leagues who do not have the benefit of the latest technology.

You can't really argue against that statement. I think most of us feel it is a worthwhile and beneficial project for the wider community in general and for the club's finances in particular, but I don't think there's much doubt that it seems to have been a poorly presented proposal.
-
Following this deferral I'd like to think common sense will prevail and the project will get voted through by the cooncillors after the site visit and more information around mitigations is forthcoming. The relationship, however, between planning committees, council votes and common sense rarely seem to go hand in hand...

There is always hope when it gets to the councillor’s vote stage. Locally, we recently had granted planning permission for a new care home that had a lot of opposition overturned by the councillors after some determined lobbying. Hopefully there’s enough fight in the community to put in the effort for this. I have no business acumen and may be a bit naive about this sort of stuff and no doubt there are some personalities who stand to gain personally from the project’s success, but it seems to be a legitimate proposal that could do well for the community as well as helping out the club financially. It seems worth the effort to fight for.
-
My feelings too Scotty - this particular sentence in the Chairman's statement says it all. Sounds like we're heading for part-time if this project fails.

Disappointed we couldn’t hang on for the 3 points but also relieved to come away with the 1 after so many of their attempts hit the post. Prior to Big Dunc’s arrival I wouldn’t have had any hope of getting a result there. So the unbeaten run continues and I’m getting the feeling the best is yet to come.

I find it quite hard to understand the council’s refusal, their arguments against the proposal seem very weak. In this day and age with authorities all over the country striving to reach net zero targets the battery farm seemed like a no-brainer to me. Notwithstanding the financial benefits the club would appear to gain from it, I would have thought the benefits to the community would have the council championing it. Like Robert though I have no knowledge of the ins and outs or the full implications of the proposal, just seemed like a good idea to me. Not a new experience alas, I’ve seen so many brainless decisions from planning committees and councils that I really should no longer be surprised.

Oh dearie me Mantis, you ain’t got the hang of this game at all! -
They certainly know how to find the back of the net! Great to see them doing so well and I hope they’re building up a decent support behind them. Embarrassingly I have to admit I know sod all about the league structure for the ladies, about time I checked it out.

Looking forward to hearing from those at the game. From the BBC match stats it looks like a great defensive effort and it seems like we’ve now got a really decent platform to build from.

Thanks MrCJ and Gringo, your efforts are much appreciated -
Cannae disagree with any of that bdu, just me and my accumulated pessimism after nearly 7 decades of hopeful and expected sporting success being mostly trashed - apart that is from the glory years of the Caley Jags rising up through the leagues, I’m probably in need of a voddie or three!
-
Fingers crossed that the weekend derby tussle with the Pars didn’t take too much out of Raith - we could do with them giving Morton a right good humping tonight!
