  1. Totally agree Johnboy but McArthur falls into the EXCEPTIONAL category, something we don't have.
  2. It really is interesting to read everyones opinions but I think we may all need a reality check for next season. The fact of the matter is that Dale G and Jamie D will do very well to get a place on the bench in the 1st Div. TB will look for experience to take us back up and that unfortunately will be at the expense of youth. IMO this is not a league to learn your trade. These two guys would be better moving on to a club where they would play on a regular basis. It is the same as everything else in life, you can't learnyour trade by starting at the top! I don't see our club being any use to young pros UNLESS they are an EXCEPTIONAL talent. Unfortunately, we do not have any one in this category.
  3. As fans we generally only see/hear one side of the story. Has Ian shown the right attitude when TB overlooked him? Who knows. If this decision is genuine, I don't think it has been made for his lack of potential.
  4. And don't forget our "saviour" David Sutherland tried to blame the supporters!
  5. There are a lot of questions to be answered by the Board and the sooner they deal with what is a major financial problem the better. Some of the questions I have: Can we afford to keep the present management team of Butcher & Malpas? Can we continue to afford a Director of Football? Can we afford to keep 2 full-time U19 coaches? Can we still afford a Chief Executive? Can we still afford a Reserve Team? What size of 1st Team squad can we afford? Do we need to maintain a squad of 16-18 full-time youth players when a small number of QUALITY kids could be coached and trained with the 1st team? What happens with our Youth Development programme? Where do we get the money to pay the lease on the two stands now that they will be near empty at most home games? I apologise for sounding so negative but I really think our problems started when we lost JOHN ROBERTSON and PARKY. When Brewster moved to DU we went for the easy option and appointed CC ( a legend but unqualified and probably unfair to give him the job ), re-appointed Brewster (a proven failure but someone our borad knew they could dominate and manipulate) and by the time they took action to get rid of him, we were ALREADY relegated! We have come to the end of a very exciting journey where we have created a sizeable number of jobs, given our fans the chance to experience prem league action, given the City massive exposure but I,m sorry to say that I feel although we were a prem league team for a number of years I don't think the club ever moved as fast as the team. I hope I'm wrong but unless we atract new money and new people and take the whole thing and shake it up, I feel we are maybe at our level and will just have to accept the fact that we are NOT a prem league club!
  6. Caleyboy you've really floored me with that news about Peter. I remember him very well. He was always a really nice guy. Other players were Walter Wright, Robbie Munro and Roddy Webster. I remember Roddy asking me who scored for us, as he couldn't see properly without his glasses! Davie Williamson also from the High School as I recall and didn't Eric Mackintosh play for us aswell? That's probably as much as the Wolf Blass will let me stretch to at the moment. I hope it can open some doors in your memory bank. Was that the same Walter Wright that played for Clach in the early/mid 70's? The very same. I may be wrong but did he not become a dentist?
  7. Only Grassa & Sutherland are to blame for the Brewster sitation. If we go down, there will be major changes needed and it will be interesting to see how much we paid certain directors during this financial year. Sutherland will probably say lots to save face but at the end of the day he is only there to look after the future value of the Tulloch investment. The wage bill will need to be SLASHED and that would normally start with the big earners (DoF, CEO, Manager, Head of Youth, etc). I hope it doesn't happen but if it does, it will be very interesting to see them all fight their corner. In the meantime - C'MON THE CALEY!
  8. I see Mark McCulloch our former midfielder has decided to hang up his boots and join the police. Had a good living from football but always had his head screwed on the right way.
  9. Well done Roarer its nice to see 2 old codgers still able to do jigsaw puzzles! Good days to remember. We also had a contingent of islanders playing - Donald J MacDonlad (the last I heard he was head of PE at Portree High) - a flyer! We also had a real bear at centre forward and a wee curly hair winger whose names escape me but again they were from the islands. Peter MacDonald at centre half ( poor Peter took his own life many years ago), Aly Fraser (retired cop). Any more names to jog the old memory?
  10. "Fraser" did not play in the U19's
  11. Quality Has to be this one - PLEASE - it will sell like quality pies!
  12. We should know by now that only wins are posted on the official site. :thumb04:
  13. Killie St Mirren Falkirk Caley Hamilton But only if we beat Hamilton on Saturday. If not, i feel we could be doomed.
  14. And at what level have you played at then "Dalneighcaley"? Oh come on "Dalneighcaley" tell us what "decent level" you played at? - Just so that we an bow to you when required! Played Highland League and had a couple of unsuccessful trials for senior teams . You ? So the Highland League is a decent level is it? Sounds like you maybe played for Fort William or Brora. Please don't give us this bull of playing at a "decent level" - we really aren't interested in dreamers!
  15. Played for Clach Rangers as well "exgrover". You are right, Muirpark were the caley younguns not Telford Street. I remember Clach Rangers were to play Crown Thistle in a cup final at Grant Street with Peter Bennett due to ref it. When we turned up, Peter had called off and Chicks MacKay was his replacement - or so he thought. Dougie and George Rodgers Jnr, who ran the team at the time, insisted that poor old Chicks would NEVER ref at Grant Street and they refused to let us take the field. Game off, Crown Thistle took the cup home. We were guutted and it created a big hooha in the local press via Frank Philips. I can't really remember if we played any games after that and I think the league disbanded shortly afterwards - maybe 1970. I played for Clach Rangers too and was also in the team that "Young George" wouldn't let take the field in the cup final. I remember there was a BB select that played in the league. For some obscure reason they called themselves Sporting. We beat them four - three in an epic at Grant Street as I remember.I must know you Caleyboy! Well well Roarer - let me guess. Were you the most agile keeper of your era? We are the same age. I was probably a wee bit quicker than you! Let's not give away any secrets on this site tho. Where have you done to "Roarer"? Would your initials be JM by any chance? I think it was you who recommended me to the Rodgers.

  18. Sorry Mr Sutherland
  19. Would be ideal situ but unfortunately the Bught stand is of wood construction which would not meet the SPL safety standards.
  20. The first Caley keeper I remember was Jim "Jammy James" Smith - a real cracker. Andy Beattie was amazing for such a small bloke, as was Kenny MacKenzie. I don't know if Rod "Romeo" MacKie is still alive but I do remember that he was seriously assaulted in Fairfiled Rd some years back and his confidence was shattered after that. A really nice guy and a better goalie than most gave him credit for.

  22. And who are we to argue with our savior who loves this club and only invested because he is such a big supporter
  23. For goodness sake 'the/his assistant ' has a name - it's Maurice Malpas - if you didn't know
  24. In the early 70,s Caleys change/away strip was red and white vertical striped shirt, white shorts Remember the red and white stripe shirt but was it not blue shorts and red socks? It might have been at one time, but I can certainly remember them in white shorts with the red/white striped shirts. Have not got a clue as to the colour of the socks. Can also remember Caley in blue and white vertical striped jerseys as well and I think I have a photo of Andy Sinclair in this strip so that dates it about 72-73 Aye - the man from wick - nice guy but seen milk turn quicker!
