    Pre-Merger

Smee the events that clearly still excercise you were a decade and a half ago, surely you've had time now to get over the merger. As far as Clach pulling out is concerned, the official line was that as a limited company, rather than a members association as Thistle and Caley were at the time, there were too many technical difficulties to overcome to allow them to pool their resourses with the other two. That, of course, was nonsense. To speculate in public on the true reason would be defamatory even now.
  2. Worse still, you might just have witnessed your team lose in the league to Queens Park.
  3. I had a similar experience with a dentist in Queensgate. My mind's self preservation reflex has caused me to forget his name.

Caley might well have held their on in the lower reaches of the SFL but SPL football would have been but a distant hope rather than he reality it now is for the merged team.
  5. I've never professed to have great keyboard skills. Still six mistakes is one fewer than the Falkirk defence yesterday.
  6. Thistle played a number of matches at Grant Street in the aftermath of the 1939 fire for which Clach charged what the Thitle committe regarded as the extortionate sum of ?5 per match.

I've been a Thistle fan since the late sixties just in time to have the pleasure of watching the most successful and entertaining Kingsmills side of all time managed by the recently deceased Willie Grant. Despite being a Thistle fan, I agree, with the benifit of hindsight, that it was a blessing in disguise that central belt self interest promoted Ferranti Thistle instead of the Jags in 1974. I don't believe that either Thistle or Caley on their own would have enjoyed the sort of backing or success that th merged team have had since joining the league system. Elgin City enjoyed more success and a higher profile in their time as a non league club than either Thistle or Caley and look mow they'v fared since joining the Scottish League.
  8. You could be a Man. United fan !
  9. Makes me feel a whole lot less guilty about my own 5 days plus.
  10. Just what I was thinking !
  11. Give it a little time, we're only three games into the new season.
  12. No need to panic just yet. We are nororiously slow starters. We were wll beaten by a much improved Rangers team who have won every domestic and european fixture this season. The other two defeats were tricky away fixtures where, in each case we could have come way with ull points on another day. I stil believe that we will b challenging or a top six place rather han battling against relegation.
  13. Motherwell were unable to cover Virgo's wages so I doubt if we could either.
  14. Not the worst disaster for the club to lose a squad player in an area where we're fairly well provided for.
  15. Grant Steet Park was bigger still prior to the 1960s when the first chunk of land was sold off for the houses built opposite what was the main stand.
  16. Or much the same as we were offering Craig Dargo.
  17. I'm not so sure that they are flogging a dead horse as far as their claim for financial compensation is concenned. West Ham could yet find that retaining their place in the Premiership may have been something of a mixed blessing.
  18. Looks like Scottish Labour will be pinning their hopes on Wendy Alexander who, to be fair, will be a more formidible opponent than the new High Commissioner to Malawi.
