There used to be league internationals mainly, although not exclusively, between the home nations. There's far too much pressure on the international timetable for there to be any hope of such matches being revived although there might be more merit in them now than at the time when, apart from the odd exception like Joe Baker, the scottish league team was overwhelminglly scottish.

The only comfort is that the recent attacks have been so incompetently executed but sadly the terrorists will inevitably get lucky sooner rather than later. What frightens me is that these attacks have been foiled by sheer chance and good fortune with MI5 apparently having no prior intelligence on the matter

According to today's P & J, Charlie Chritie is hopeful of finalising the signing of Dean McDonald within the next 24 hours. The delay is apparently due to the Gillingham chairman being absent on holiday.

Named in today's P & J as Dominique Taboga ( doesn't sound terribly teutonic ) a 24 year old central defender and Benidict Baur, a 20 year old cerntre forward. Neither of them seem to have much, if any, experience of playing in the austrian top division.

It seems that there may after all be a friendly against Qatar but their under 21 team rather than the full side. -

My understanding is that the deal is potentially more than twice as lucrative as the last one. Very much on a par with what the likes of Dundee United get for shirt sponsorship. A good bit of business here by the commercial department.
