  1. 20 years, and yet is seems like only yesterday.....
  2. What for you were the highlights of the season?
  3. Having watched on Alba, can any of our Gaelic speakers explain the commentator's references to George Weah and Nuremburg?
  4. Had to laugh at a comment texted to BBC: "Samaras deserves a game today after doing so well at Eurovision last night."

Were it not for Hearts 15 point penalty, Hibs would have been clear bottom. In footballing terms they are the worst team in the league. As an aside, that deflected late goal for County has earned them an extra £250,000. Spawny gits!

What Butcher did at ICT in the first half of the season was incredible. What he has done at Hibs is even more incredible!
  7. I'm sure I read something about a Carribean tour.....

As it turned out, June 2004 was every bit as challenging as May had been. Info from an old article on this site: June 1st - SPL clubs vote to deny ICT promotion. Also vote to change seating criteria to 6000 from season 05/06 onwards June 2nd - SFA confirms it will hear ICT appeal June 3rd - SPFA call for change June 4th - Hibs and Hearts call for a new meeting of the SPL June 4th - Partick offer to accept relegation for 1 million pounds June 9th - Dunfermline and Dundee Utd suggest ICT should be allowed to play in the SPL in Inverness June 9th - Clyde ask SPL to consider making the top flight 14 or 16 teams from next season June 10th - George Peat says SPL could face charges of bringing the game into disrepute June 10th - UEFA indicate they might become involved 'if necessary' June 22nd - Partick fail to stop the SPL taking a second vote. June 22nd - Vote goes 10-2 in favour of allowing ICT into the SPL. Caley Thistle promoted to SPL

Official Hibs rallying cry. To be followed by: "Saturday 2pm: HEADS IN OUR HANDS"
  10. Could well be a 4-way mud wrestle for the book (I found it, it does exist!) but I have a cunning and amusing plan for such an outcome... They get 3 chapters each?
  11. It's all about priorities. Would you not rather any money we had was invested in something like training facilities, or paying the wages of a new signing who might keep us up next season?
  12. For the first time ever, I find myself wanting ICT to draw rather than win. We'd get 5th place either way and the club would save money on match win bonuses, so it's the right thing to do!
  13. The "glamour tie against English opposition" will probably be Hartlepool!

My mind might be playing tricks on me but did Dougie McGillivary not win a £500 bet with Tam Cowan, as to whether we'd make it to the SPL within our 10 years?

I think the chant was actually "We are SPL" but it was indeed a memorable and significant moment. I would say that the majority of fans, or at least the ones being vocal on this forum, were dead against the idea of groundshare when it was first mooted (prior to us winning the league). There were lots of "stop this madness" threads, and people saying they'd rather support their local team in a lower league than have an SPL team playing in Aberdeen. But when the league title was won, that attitude seemed to instantly go away, and the doubters seemed to realise that having earned our place in the top flight we should at least have a crack at it. When we went up, even our own fans thought that, if we could stay up at all, we'd probably end up as one of those yo-yo sides at best. I doubt anyone would have expected that we'd be in the top flight for 9 of the next 10 seasons (make that 10 out of 11 now).
  16. One of his few good appearances for us was actually at Dens, he really looked the part and a Dee mate of mine was asking me who he was. I'm a bit surprised he's got another chance in the top flight, especially after Falkirk punted him after he got a 6 match ban, but we've got to remember that he's only just turned 20.

OK, let me replace the word "bounce" with "change in fortunes".

Clyde fans must rue that game. Who knows where they'd be now if they had made it to the SPL, but instead they went on a rapid slide down the leagues. We had a great support that day - to this day it must be one of the best we've ever had for an away league game, other than Dingwall perhaps. I remember the heavens opened when we were leaving the ground and I got soaked on the way back to the pub where I was parked, but it all just added to the occasion.

If Hibs do end up 11th, you'd have to think that with this shocking run they are on, I wonder if it has crossed their mind that their best chance of staying up would be to ditch Butcher before the play-off and get the instant "bounce" that clubs often get from a change?
  20. Seems to happen a lot these days.
  21. For those who can face it, don't forget the game's on Alba in a few minutes.
  22. So a draw v St J keeps secures 5th place in the league and wins me the prize. I think we'd all settle for that, eh?
