Can't believe they have published our invoice and the bank transfer instruction! Can anyone read the letter from Mike Smith? I think it says we accept compensation of 500,000 Euros.

?400k for Niculae v ?600k for Noel Hunt. We certainly got a better deal than Utd did, considering Hunt scored twice as many goals, caused defences about 10 times more problems, and is improving every season.

Gordon Brown's day just got worse :015:

I don't think transfer fees will be the problem, it's getting players willing to come here on the wage offered that will be the obstacle.
  5. Story on BBC from Lincoln manager Peter Jackson. Have we ever signed a player in such unusual circumstances? "Jackson was sitting in his office at the training ground earlier in the summer when he noticed a bloke hanging around outside his door. It turned out to be a Romanian who wanted to know whether the Imps would be interested in signing him. Jackson, ever the gentleman, took the player's CV and told him to come back when pre-season training started. "I put it in the bottom drawer and forgot about it," Jackson told me. "But a couple of weeks later he was spotted running around the training ground with his wife on his back." The player's name is Adrian Patulea and his persistence has now been rewarded with a trial at the club. Patulea scored a hat-trick coming off the bench in his first game for Lincoln."

And he was dismal, as he was for us far too many times last season for a supposed star player.

And further down it says he is signing for Arsenal! Quotes a fee of 400,000 Euros, which I think is about ?300,000. But then says we wanted a 20% sell-on clause, but agreed to a fixed 100,000 Euros instead, which is hopefully on top of the initial fee.

It's not that, it's the fact that he started a thread criticising the board for a decision that it transpires he would have made himself. Zero credibility.

Let's look back at your recommendation back at the time :
  10. I remember seeing "highlights" of Dia's appearance. It was like you or I play. Fair play to him :021:

Roscoe23, it's easy to criticise, so how about you tell us who you would have appointed instead? Mourinho?
  12. He was just very smug in confirming that he and Pele would be appointed at Aberdeen.

Bennet has confirmed that we received, but rejected, a "realistic" offer from Kaiserslautern. Also says it is more likely than before that Niculae will be with us for the new season, but I wouldn't read too much into that. My interpretation is that we're holding out for a bit more money, but know that he will be going there. In the meantime he won't be featuring in case he gets injured and scuppers everything, or in case his suitors see him play and realise that he isn't actually anywhere near as good as his international status suggests.

I would suspect that the decision to withdraw him from the Denmark trip is because a deal has already been done and is just being finalised.
  15. So would he be our first gay player? * * Not that there would be anything wrong with that, and not that I'm saying he is gay, just asking the question. Any resemblence to any person living or dead is purely coincidental etc etc
  16. BBC reporting that we are close to completing the signing. Quote from Bennett confirms that talks reopened positively after Hearts got a manager in place. Would be a good signing in that it gives Rory some much needed competition for the Headless Chicken role. :019: :019: :019:
  17. Killie are desperate for a striker. Hamilton desperately need SPL experience. A club would have to be desperate to consider him.
  18. He was indeed very smug when he left us. But that was 6 years ago, we've all moved on since then (and in that time we have progressed a lot more than he has!). Still, we must have one of the highest pedigree U-15 coaches in the SPL which can't be bad.
  19. Well, they didn't seem to have much trouble scoring against us.
  20. Should we be worried about our defence? Even more worried than before?

I can't decide which bit made me smile most : the 17 players on the pitch, or Save Our Staggies closing due to lack of interest :003:

He was a good prospect many years ago but his career seems to have fared rather dismally in the last last few seasons, not helped by some bad luck. No idea what he's like as a keeper these days, but with his career profile its the sort of move that could work out well for all concerned.

He scored a very meagre 8 goals in the SPL and barely justified a place in the team for much of last season. 6 months ago many fans would have been delighted for someone to take him off our hands on a free. He has improved since then, driven by the possibility of an international recall. But for me, the point at which I would hesitate to sell him would be around ?200,000.
  25. Interesting that the first choice defence played together. Probably a good idea, help them get to know each other this season. Anyone know which game Brewster was at?
