  1. Nordin Wooter?
  2. Brewster confirmed today as assistant manager. Will still be registered as a player. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...nty/8116322.stm
  3. Setanta comprises dozens of companies, based in Ireland, Scotland, England, Luxembourg and further afield. Some of them are profitable and are not in administration, like Setanta Ireland.
  4. In the sense of making it easier to sign players who might otherwise have been playing for an SPL side, I suppose.
  5. All just a PR stunt to publicise the new series.
  6. That's not actually the case. Consumers aren't obliged to pay VAT at all, they just pay the retail price/subscription fee of whatever they are buying. The supplier of the goods/services is obliged to account for VAT at the appropriate rate and hand it over to the relevant government, regardless of what VAT (if any) they charged on to the consumer. In Setanta's case, an element of the subscription fee comprises Luxembourg VAT, and no UK VAT at all. The Lux. VAT rate is actually just 3% after checking it out. So if the subscription is ?12.99 a month, Setanta get ?12.61 and 38p goes to the Luxembourg tax man. If however the transaction was subject to UK VAT instead, Setanta would get just ?11.30 and ?1.69 would go to Gordon Brown.
  7. What seems to have happened is that when the new investor inspected Setanta's books, they discovered potential large additional tax liabilities. My understanding is that this relates to backdated VAT. Setanta created company in Luxembourg, and wrote to their customers notifying them that their subscription contracts were now with the Luxembourg company. Why? Because Luxembourg allows broadcasters to charge a very low VAT rate (less than 5% I think - so much for the EU level playing field) instead of the 17.5% in the UK at the time. This meant that more of each customer's ?12.99 per month goes to Setanta and less goes to the tax man. The Lux government are also happy because they suddenly get money for nothing. The losers in that arrangement are the UK government who get no VAT. And I think what has happened is that they are challenging this arrangement with a view to getting all their money back. I don't think Setanta are the only broadcaster to have this sort of arrangement and there's nothing illegal about it, but it's a bit of a grey area as to what constitutes being based in Luxembourg to qualify for the low VAT. Creating a company and having a small office with a server over there, when all your management, operations and customers are in the UK and Ireland? That's sounds like something for the lawyers to argue over. The point is though, that nobody in their right mind will want to buy Setanta if that threat is hanging over them. Administration surely seems inevitable now.
  8. That's reassuring.
  9. So Raith don't think he's good enough for the 1st Division?
  10. What an absolute ****.
  11. Be fair, a horse drawn caravan would take days.

    Pre Merger?

A regular at Telford St as a boy, we moved away, and then I went off studying and seeing the world. Always looked out for Caley/CT/ICT results though. Came back to Scotland and my first ICT game got me totally hooked, the 1-1 cup game at Tannadice in early 1998.
  13. Well it seems that the acquisition has fallen through at the due diligence stage. The Premiership say they are putting Setanta's game rights back on the market. Setanta are fecked.
  14. No, that was salary.
  15. Good luck to him, but I don't think he'll get it. BTW, isn't "Mothwell" quite near Bothwell?
  16. Let's not flatter ourselves, its got nothing to do with this forum. What is true is that the club has been working for weeks (if not months) on the restructuring and going through the proper process of redundancy consultation. Now they have announced the outcome. Some folk here chose to get themselves into a frenzy about things that may or may not happen, basically assuming the worst of the people in charge.
  17. I've always been under the impression that being a cash business, taxi drivers only declare about half their income to the tax man. But that was based on a survey of London cabbies many years ago, and the record keeping requirements might have been tightened up since then. I'm sure you'll put me right.
  18. That's the 10 I came up with Mick. I was initially going to post that we could assemble an ICT International XI, but then I realised Pavels never actually played when he got called up to the squad. There was a player for most positions but the midfield was a bit shakey with too many attacking players.
  19. Just for a bit of end of season fun, how many players can you name who have played for ICT, and at any point in their career received a full international cap? I came up with 10, but I wouldn't swear that is right answer. Rather than list them all in one post, how about just naming one each and letting the next person have a go. At the end there should be a supplementary question - how many of them actually looked international calibre players when they played for ICT?!
  20. There's got to be one for Lionel, because he manages about 6 slices every game.
  21. Part of their community ethos is having players who the fans can relate to.
  22. Over the next 12 months how many times are we going to hear reporters and commentators come out with "North Korea are playing in their first World Cup since 1966.........and we know what happened that year!" I always like to see some different teams qualify, but by all accounts North Korea are not remotely entertaining. Their best players are actually born and bred Japanese.
  23. Nobody wants to see you sunbathing Bob! I thought it was all satellite pics, didn't know you could upload anything.
  24. When it comes to budgeting, I'd be pretty sure that the club have been working on the basis that they will have to shell out the money, which is the most likely outcome. But if they feel they have been the victims of a Romanian stitch up, then you can't blame them for holding firm, holding onto the money and letting a court decide.
  25. Well don't just sit there, call an ambulance!
