  1. Can't we train our players to use both feet equally?
  2. The commentator definitely said that Stoke have got an option to take him back. The negotiations to get him here were lengthy, with Stoke initially wanting just a loan deal with a recall option, so it would be no surprise that when we finally got our man thay still have some sort of option. Unless he starts banging in a serious number of goals though, I can't see it being anything to worry about.
  3. Nae luck for Sunderland, and for Kieran Richardson in particular, v Fulham on Saturday, With the keeper beaten, his free kick hit the inside of the post, bounced on the line, hit the opposte post, bounced back along the line, hit the keeper and then hit the post for the 3rd time. Can't say I've seen that before. Just to compound his bad luck, he hit a cracking free kick into the net later on, only for the ref to rule it out due to some alleged pushing in the wall. Match of the Day showed what actually happened : Sunderland had sent Chimbonda into the Fulham wall, which unsettled them a bit, so Jimmy Bullard reaches across and strokes Chimbonda's c**k, and then does it again just as the free kick is about to be taken! Can't say I've seen that before either.
  4. The concensus seems to be that he offers much more of an attacking threat than Hastings, but is less reliable as a defender. Mind you, Hastings looked pretty poor to me v Celtic.

Ewan Murray? Unfortunate face? That's him. He covers Scottish football for the Guardian. He would have a greater readership if he posted his articles here.
  6. He really should have sent Blackie off. But we should have had a corner. So that evens things out. But yes, he was pretty good.

    BBC Alba

I can't help thinking back to the time I phoned the cinema in Galashiels one to ask what time the film started, to which they replied "Erm, what time can you get here?" In the end there were 4 other people in the audience. Any reports yet on Alba's average viewing figures? Aside from the SPL football, they must be getting something similar 3rd division crowds a lot of the time.
  8. A true football fan who poured his fortune down the drain invested millions in the club that he loved.
  9. Below is a transcript from the Northern Scot and Moray & Nairn Express, Tuesday March 12th 1929. The original cutting was found in a relative's attic recently. I thought it was quite interesting not just because the "hero" in question is my great-grandfather, but because of the way they dealt with a fire in the absence of phones and a proper fire brigade. And also because of the bland, factual journalistic style of the time. DISTILLERY BLAZE HERO Workman Fights Great Fire Alone Shots to Break Malt Tower Window The Glenlossie Distillery near here was partly destroyed by fire early today. Only the night staff of three men was at work when the electric light suddenly failed. James Kerr, a stillman, groping his way out to investigate, discovered that the dynamo room was ablaze. He at once got a hand hose to bear on the flames, but it was evident that the outbreak had obtained a firm hold and while Kerr continued to fight the fire single-handed his two companions David Mutch, another stillman and James Miller the night maltman ran to the neighbouring hamlet of Thomshill and roused the distillery staff. Messengers were also sent to adjacent farms for help and within half an hour the distillery?s steam fire engine was at work. The flames, shooting to a height of a hundred feet spread with great rapidity and the roofs of two departments collapsed. Despite the efforts of Kerr and other workmen who mounted to the roof with hoses, the flames spread to the malt tower which communicates with the drying lofts and barns, a long range of buildings containing 15,000 to 20,000 quarters of barley. As urgent SOS was sent to Rothes and a motor engine was quickly manned by distillery men and rushed eight miles to the scene. The malt tower, containing about 1,000 bushels of malt, became a furnace and when it was found impossible to get water inside the building Mr. James Marshall, the manager, secured a shotgun and after firing several shots succeeded in shattering the roof window through which the firemen were able to reach the blazing malt. With the arrival of the Rothes engine the spread of the flames was definitely checked. ?The hero of the outbreak is undoubtedly James Kerr?, said Mr James Miller the night maltman. ?His early efforts in the blazing dynamo room gave us a chance to summon help in time and he stuck to his job with the main hose from start to finish.? The distillery, which is owned by the Distillers Company Ltd. is one of the largest malt distilleries in the world.

  11. Great news if true. But why not 3 years?
  12. Aged 25 and looking for his 8th club. No thanks. 5 foot 7. Again, no thanks.
  13. Burley won't be walking away, just explaining his side of the story I would expect.
  14. Haven't had that one for over 10 years, but it was a excellent, the best traditional english beer I've ever had.

  16. Can't argue with the result. Aside from Iwulemo's unbelievable miss, Norway had all the best chances and could well have snatched the points. Craig Gordon was our best player. And I thought Iwelumo actually looked pretty decent, and we looked far far more threatening after he came on.
  17. In all seriousness BNP, it would be fascinating to read your full account of the events surrounding the merger. Might not be as impartial as Against All Odds, but it would be darn sight more entertaining! You'd be well advised to get a lawyer to scrutinse it before publication. Is that chap Beaumont still around?
  18. I'd give 10/1, but after the losses I've made recently I won't be able to pay up if you're right. Would you accept Bradford & Bingley shares? Or Northern Rock? RBS? Tell you what, I'll give you Iceland instead.
  19. Whilst it is typical for Rangers fans to justify their attitudes with reference to distorted versions of events that happened long before they were born, I suppose you deserve credit for being 250 years closer to the present day than most of them.
  20. Oops. Just as well I'm not in a job that involves extensive use of spreadsheets.
  21. I think you are probably right, but as they say in Excel: =IF((?20*4,000)<(?10*5,000),?20,?10) In other words, the club gets a lot less money if they cut prices!

At the end of your day, your fellow Howden Enders voted their team out of existence, no? Maybe not your particular mates, but the fan base in general.
