As Warren retaliated, won't his red card stand anyway? I hope I'm wrong on this!
-
Yes DD, I woke up at 4am and checked the score. Afghanistan were 100 for 7 at that stage so I went back to sleep quite happy that our 1st World Cup victory was just an hour or so away. I couldn't believe it when I saw the score this morning.

Matchday Thread Dundee Utd -V- Inverness CT
Caley Mad In Berks replied to CaleyD's topic in Caley Thistle
I was out all evening and not able to sneak a look at my phone at all. My first reaction on seeing the score just now was, "I'll take that". But despite maintaining our 7 point lead over Utd, this thread seems full of doom and gloom. Ok it is disappointing to lose Warren, and it is another game where we haven't capitalised on our possession. But, lighten up folks, we're still unbeaten this year. Wouldn't we all have settled for this position at the start of the season? It is still in our own hands. Believe! -
Almost outside Hetty's shop!

I'm not saying we don't need a replacement striker, but I have noticed that our goals per game average is exactly 2, without Billy, which is higher than for the rest of the season! Also, the quality of some of our recent goals has been outstanding, Williams on Saturday , Tansey against Partick, and Christie against Midden come immediately to mind. I repeat, these are merely observations, not a case for not replacing Billy.

Very fair analysis by DD. The opening stand turned out to be the difference between the sides. I hope Scotland can go on and get a win or two in their remaining group games.

I like this. Playing 16 players should give us the edge in most games!

Inverness CT - V - Kilmarnock Matchday Thread
Caley Mad In Berks replied to TopSix's topic in Caley Thistle
All our expectations are naturally high as a result of our great season. So disappointment at 'only drawing' with Kilmarnock is a natural first reaction. However don't forget Killie have been playing really well recently and have beaten other top six sides.. They may surprise one or two others before the end of the season. Even County who we also dropped points to seem to have found some form. So there is no such thing as an easy game and we will have to concentrate hard for the rest of the season to maintain 3rd place and have a chance of Europe. I'm still confident that we can do it, barring significant injuries. So lets do our bit and get behind the team without calling for players to be dropped if they have one poorish game. We are still unbeaten this year! Its in our hands. Believe! -

Question from an old Hibs fan
Caley Mad In Berks replied to ICT Supporters Trust's topic in Caley Thistle
I remember Jimmy Smith too. He took over goalkeeping duties from the legendary Willie Bruce sometime in the 50s. I seem to recall that he then went to Stirling (quite a useful side at that time). As previous poster has said, I seem to remember someone saying that he did indeed emigrate to Canada in the 60s. I have no recollection of the 8-2 hammering by Elgin. It could well have been around 62/63 or 63/64 seasons when I lived in Canada. At that time all I heard about Caley was when my Mum sent me the Sunday Post occasionally. -
Just got back from watching Reading v Wigan. Truly one of the worst matches I've seen in years. Billy got on for the last 10 minutes, which coincided with Wigan's best spell of the match when they improved from poor to mediocre. Reading were dire all night. Billy was actually on the pitch for nearly 25 minutes as added time was announced as 11 minutes, but lasted nearly 15, due to a couple of injuries and a staggering amount of time wasting by Wigan. Billy actually played well, with lots of good touches, and his usual effort. He fired narrowly over the bar from a half chance in normal time, but right at the death of injury time he was right through and fired well over the bar from a good chance. His namesake, Malky, looked none too pleased at that. Had Billy slotted it, I think he would have secured a place in the starting line up next time. He may have done enough anyway. Time will tell. At least he has pocketed his first win bonus. There won't be many more of them this season, as surely no team can play as badly as Reading did tonight, and I would think Wigan will surely go down. Attendance of 14601. I must have been the 1. Fewer than 100 Wigan fans, making some of our ICT Away day crowds look positively gargantuan!

Inverness Royal Academy of Olde
Caley Mad In Berks replied to IMMORTAL HOWDEN ENDER's topic in Olde Inverness
I didn't know you were a dricketer CMIB! When I was teaching and writing books about the Royal Academy I was a frequent visitor to the school archive and among the treasures there are all the old mags going back to the 1890s. I remember the 1959 one in particular because in my view it was one of the best that there was. Off the top of my head 1959 was a year when there were several break ins at the school with items nicked ranging from vice captain Robert Lindsay's books to a belt! Yes, CB, cricket has always been my favourite game. If you have access to that 1959 magazine you will see me in there as captain of the 1st X1. Most of my cricket of course was played down here in Englandshire, but my experience of playing in the North of Scotland league stood me in good stead, as when I moved here (mid 60s) all the cricket this far south was friendly Sunday afternoon stuff. League cricket didn't take off here until late 60s/70s and I fitted into it well with the good Highland background. -

Don't suppose many of you have still got one of these. The signature 'John Urquhart' on the back is, I'm pretty sure, Caley legend Billy Urquhart's uncle. He was in class with me. We used to call him 'Drachart'. -
I only saw Watkins up front, live, at Partick last week, and just the highlights this week. But I really like his strength there. Yes, he has missed a few chances, but who doesn't? Billy's 'one on one' record was not great. At least Watkins showed he can get in goal scoring positions. The goals will come. I only hope we can hang on to him.

Just enjoyed the highlights again. Some of those passes from Tansey were just exquisite. We're going to give some team a right thumping soon. -

Well done lads. Clean sheet would have been nice, but another good 3 points. Nervy finish by the sound of it, just like last week. Nice favour by Killie too!. Onwards and upwards. -

Wow, apart from Tremarco and Devine, a very inexperienced bench. Where is Doran? -
