  1. Esson Piermayr Tokely Aldred G.Shinnie morrison ross hayes tansey doran tade subs: Tuffey, Foran, A.Shinnie, Gillet, Sutherland, Polworth, McKay There are reasons in this one: - piermayr has the hopes of the caley nation on his shoulders. as long as he can run and doesn't hoof everything into the air he is better than proc was last week - ross looked lost on the right last week and when he was infield looked more comfortable. he can pick balls through to the forwards, a job i reckon he does much better than a.shinnie, and i reckon he made more tackles than some others last week. - i don't actually know if morrison is a holding mid but its an option. if not proc. - foran and tade were always doing the same thing, tade is more mobile so stays in. neither of them looked like they could finish last week tho. - Tansey looks to be a good passer and has a great shot (from freekicks anyways) so get him further forward to make the telling balls or get in the box for the crosses from doran an hayes. - doran and hayes are wingers, they know their job going forward. and come back and help out when needed. last weeks diamond didn't know that. - no real reason for g.shinnie over gillet, both as good as each other i just chose shinnie today.
  2. couple points from what has been said. I do remember only too vividly the only time (that I know of) that terry tried three at the back last season. rosco---munro---golly got truly murdered by celtic in that 6-0 thrashing. miserable, so really hoping he doesn't try it again without working on it a bit more! and a few suggestions of gillet at centre back. last game of last season he played there when munro went off injured. we lost a rather simple free header soon after and looked bombscare like with high balls into the box and all that was against hamilton. gillet is a no in centre defence for me. on a lighter note. bring on the well can't wait!!! :ictscarf: :ictscarf:
  3. is shinnie (graeme the original one) injured right now??? i'd be more than tempted to be putting him in ahead of gillet at LB. so i'd be going with. Esson Proc --- Tokely --- Aldred --- G.Shinnie (Gillet if he isn't fit) Tansey --- A.Shinnie Hayes --- Ross --- Doran Foran
  4. caught in two places with this. some of the signings look promising (a.shinnie and tansey have potential, less sure of tade) and the young guns who came through last year should be even better this year. morrison will kick on too. and the likes of polworth and greig look like they could come into the young guns category this year or next. so that is all positive. plus roscoe is still here. and hayes. and esson. and terry. and mo. BUT We have lost a lot in defence, if Munro was still here we'd be feeling a little better (only a little mind) but the centre halfs brought in to replace him are unproven (anywhere, not just in the SPL) and this causes a certain amount of discomfort. left back is sorted although both g.shinnie and gillet have injury problems hanging around i fear. right back, roscoe as a last resort, proctor was a bombscare there last year and his injury actually saved us for a bit i think, he can do a job elsewhere. and duff is showing no signs of coming back. and i'd be happier with another striker with goals so on balance i'm about an even. some goods and some worries. the season is still 10 days away and the transfer window doesn't shut for 18 days so there is time. the early start to the SPL i doubt is helping as english players try to get clubs nearer home but thats life. don't feel the need to get on terry's back he is the manager and there will be a team out to face motherwell next week. i'll reserve judgement too (much) later in the season. bring it on
  5. good start. i wonder if this is something we will see more often. G. Shinnie at left mid. with him and gillet fit i think we would have struggled to chose between them last season, so him pushing further forward could be a good thing. can't recall what his crossing was like though?
  6. good luck to him. i'm sure he could have got a club at a slightly higher level but he is a highlander born and bred. good to see. legend always and he will always receive such a reception from us should he return no matter who he plays for. Really sorry to not see a U-turn by terry, but i doubt it was ever a possibility.
  7. rooney was in and out of the team the beginning of our season in the first, an otherwise terrible and depressing away 1-1 draw at airdrie was in my opinion only notable for the revelation at how much better we played when adam came on for barrowboy. his touch and hold up play instantly changed our focus. only when butcher realised the role he could play and gave him an extended run did he reach his full potential and our promotion charge really began, so doofer isn't far of the mark with that at all. and he was under rated (or still young and learning depending on which way you look at it) for his first wee while at the club. for my own money, i don't know if liam keogh was ever under rated but i never felt he got a fair crack in the SPL. although most of this was possibly injury related. also i always though Jamie Duff could have gone on to be a defensive stalwart if Butcher hadn't punted him after his long injury. a season in the first would have been the ideal place for him to regain form. not to be though.
  8. Just back from the game. :ictscarf: nice end of season win for the lads and was really good to see russell, grant and danny get a run out. the whole team came over at the end. fans were brilliant singing for grant before during and after the game such a shame he didn't make it out for the second half. it will have been worth it tho, he got injured giving the wee nyff imrie a good kicking either way great support for our two departing legends and more than one cheeky 'butcher sign him up chant' in grant's name and on that note we really should!!! the defence was useless in the second half, they scored an unmarked header from a corner!! and any high ball into the box caused panic! not good, butcher, munro is needed! trust us. everyone else did well i thought, no more so than nick ross, fantastic harrying and running today. on more than one occasion put in some sliding tackles and broke up hamiltons game. not to mention his steal and run to set up rooney for the winner. he is gonna be brilliant next year :ictscarf:
  9. Russell!!!!!!!!!! daft idiot raises his hands and straight off. feel for him. commentators saying he is distraught. what a way to go out still and always a legend tho... rooney hits the framework. again!
  10. ''Ok, so Munro showed a bit of character, remained professional and bagged a goal. '' is that not exactly why we should keep him? he is a model to the younger players and inverness through and through. not sure i could see foran doing that in such a situation. be madness to let a player like that go! So thats a big AYE! from me
  11. gonna join in the chorus of shocked voices. at least in munro's case anyways. Really feel letting an experienced head in the centre of defence leave is a big mistake. Innes is leaving too (not really a big loss when you consider the number of games he has played) and Rosco, legend and all, is actually not a centre back lest we forget, although he has played a blinder this season, and hogg isn't contracted to next season (yet?) and could easily be seen to go anywhere. i would have a first choice pairing of rosco and hogg but feel that munro's experience will be sorely missed next season. Some of his perfomances at the start of the season were brilliant. away at kili if i recall right he made some great timed challenges but he has faded towards the end of the season, as they all have. I think this is a mistake and not the way to treat a local lad who as has been pointed has done a lot for this club over the last decade. to look at it from a playing perspecitve, which is what were about in the end, What is the difference between him and golly/mcbain? it could be asked. well simply age and fitness. munro still has both on his side, the others don't at this level unfort. Golly and McBain, yep their time had come unfortunately they were kept on this year and only used when the youth players got injured. So best for all that they move onto find somewhere to play regularly at a lower level. For some reason terry didn't rate duncan and we'll never really know why. We only got into our stride and promotion form last season when duncan was partnered with Cox and the best of our results this season game before christmas when the line-up was still roughly the same. However something had changed in the team's playing dynamic and I guess terry thinks it resolves around duncan. So be it. Cox is by a very able successor and i do feel duncan would have spent most of it on the bench next season, but someone has too. lets hope morrison steps up well next season. Caley Thistle is a highland club and in my book it has always been important to have a sense of community about the club and for local players and youngsters to be integral to the club, in both ups and downs. This has been the case since our birth. We are well placed to continue this with the youngsters coming though (ross, shinnie, shane, morrison as well as some of the youth team in the scotland set up) but having 4 such experienced legends and long time servants moving on at the same time will be a massive upheaval on the club. and removes some of the players that these lads looked up too and want to emulate. I see why it is necessary to refresh the playing staff but feel it is also a big risk.
  12. aye rugby is three o'clock on sunday so no train problems there. shall be there, is but a short walk down the road for once :)
  13. golly on for rooney. nice to see him on even if its only a last minute gesture.
  14. Russeldinho!!!! run from rooney, cross across goal duncan slots in. Get in. keep this and a clean sheet now please :)
  15. proc off injured! ffs :irritated: we have issues. Innes on. oh and now rosco is on the deck with an injury. he is staying on for now though. Rosco is superman.
  16. just realised we don't have a full bench. again. worrying times, surely another kid on the bench would have been alright just to make up the numbers. Or is there registration issues? What chance Polworth getting on???
  17. maybe its all just a ploy to convince mccarthy his future lies with Scotland???
  18. I get most of my sports news from the BBC Sport website and I've been very dissapointed in the coverage afforded the Nation's Cup. I reckon its a good tourni, one Scotland even have a chance of winning, but seems to be receiving very little coverage anywhere. not just the BBC. Does this smack of the usual english bbc bias? or am being over paranoid. The fact Wilshere maybe, if he is handled right, the future of england (again with the pinning of hopes on one player, idiots)seems more important than the story that 3 of the 4 nations covered by national media are engaged in an international tournament. yes people could say it is a non-tournament but i reckon it is much better than playing meaningless friendlies. mind you even the organisation seems slightly suspect. one game now and then the last 2 games not until May? probably contributes to the lack of interest that. but i digress is this not worthy of more attention?
  19. esson Duff Rosco Munro Shinnie Duncan Hayes Ross Doran Foran Rooney From what i've seen and heard Doran seems a damn sight more productive that odi, blumenstein and sutherland. needs proving though. leaving sanchez out just coz he isn't a winger and is too injury prone to really get a consistent opinion on him. Does change games when he comes on. gillet just hasn't played enough games to be assessed, but then i've put doran in? what do i know? shinnie has been good in his abscence.
  20. although not in the squad, probably coz he is only just back from a serious injury sustained in the last scotland game, but lee wallace would be my first choice left back. other than that not anybody i can think off that has missed out. maybe templeton on form, but needs more experience i guess. does highlight how desperately we need a striker! these are folk who have been in and around the last couple years mackie -injured for a long time iwelumo - least said the better fletcher - by the sounds of it pulling a duncan ferguson (that kinda happened before i was aware of such things) o'conner - burnley now i think, not played regularly since russia. mcfadden - almost fit again, not a target man tho. kyle - oh dear....... boyd - he did score at the weekend
  21. joyous this one, one of the more despised players in the world signing for rangers. joy. just what the SPL needs
  22. no idea where he is in the recovery process but is gillet gonna fit back in when he comes back?? shinnie has done really well and doesn't deserve to be dropped. gillet was pretty good going forward from what i remember. could he make a good left wing? help out with some direct attacking and creativity?
  23. rosco gives away a penalty 1-1. curier
