They had no choice. They were compelled to do so by their clan chiefs who in turn considered themselves obliged to Charles Edwart Stuart. It was all part of a feudal system which, regrettably, still lives on in part since a number of these Hooray Henrys still own much of the land up here and even have titles. I don't know how well it's appreciated that all these Jacobite rebellions and the so called Glorious Revolution which they followed were simply civil wars about which brand of royalty was going to rule over the people - Protestant or Catholic. Unfortunately the option of not having any royalty at all didn't enter into it. That sentence couldn't be further from the truth Charles. Want to know who owns Scotland look here. http://www.highlandclearances.co.uk/clearances/postclearances_whoownsscotland.htm

I'll reply to your first paragraph Oddquine and the answer is NO. Although the price has fallen there's still profit in well's that are flowing. The average single oil well in the North Sea, for example, probably produces around a thousand barrels a day. Most facilities will have at least 20 wells. Thats approx 20,000 barrels a day per facility. Thats a million dollars a day of income. Lifting costs are maybe half a million a day which makes gross profit of half million a day average per platform. There are around 20 producing oil platforms in UK waters of North Sea. The problems come about with research and development costs. These costs are outlays that dont provide immediate returns so oil companies will put them on hold till the market improves. The un-developed fields wont disappear but sadly, in the interim, jobs will. Yes I agree we need to do more to develop alternative energy sources and Scotland is leading the world on that at the moment but its very much a trial and error thing. A lot of trial and research needs to go into finding the most cost effective means of providing energy as well as a lot of money. What many Green minded people need to realise though is what I call the 'Greenpeace Effect'. That organisation sails around the world claiming to be protectors of the environment. To do so they burn vast quantities of fuel. They use ozone depleting refrigerants to store their supplies. Supplies that are provided in packaging that trequires oil for its manufacture. Wind turbine blades are made from polycarbonates the raw material of which is oil. The towers are steel which requires vast quantities of fossil energy to produce. I could go into it in more detail but I think you probably get the gist of it. Scarlet, officially I'm retired so I can easily adjust to a life of leisure, like your good self. My current contract ends in September and, unless someone else comes along with an offer then thats what I'll do.

Incidentally Laurence the oil price rose by 3 pence yesterday. Thats an extra 1/2 million + dollar income per day for the installation I'm on at the moment.

Yes they do to an extent. Contrary to what was said in a previous reply the forecast is for heavy snow and strong wind.

I think there are some very cruel posters on here. What have Polworth and Horner done to deserve being binned. They're both young. They're both midfielders. So please tell me guys....Who should we have dropped to let either of them on to the team sheet?...Vincent? Draper? Doran? Ross? Watkins? Tansey? Williams? Christie? Has it crossed anyones mind that maybe the hard work those two put in is what makes the regulars more competitive? IMO so long as we are having success with the regulars, and they stay fit, I dont want to see what the fringe guys can do.

...but, hopefully, one a little bit more careful about the company he keeps,, Aint you got a bed to go to?

Trust in Mr Hughes to find us a loan striker of quality. Remember the one he found for Falkirk. Young Irishman who scored his first goal at TCS and went on to score 14 goals in 16 games for Falkirk during his period with them. Sadly 4 of those goals were against us. Anyway, who knows, with his contacts he could well unearth another Anthony Stokes.

Not quite sure what you mean Laurence. Oil fields under the sea? If you mean offshore drilling/production facilities that drill through the seabed as opposed to land based drilling/production facilities. Barring the middle east and some areas of North America there are very few on land facilities. Most of the worlds oil comes from under the sea. Land based fracking and shale oil are a different kettle of fish and even more costly than offshore. The industry is certainly not losing viability. They just need to cut some costs to continue making profit. Bear in mind that most of the worlds fuel and energy come from oil. Demand will always be there. Every few years the oil price drops and the media latch on to some sensationalism then it goes up again. As it will this time. The Italian energy company ENI predict that the price will rise and hit a peak of $200 in the next two years. Not sure why you would be concerned as a tax payer either. The government may take less in oil revenues but they dont pay out to the industry. Britian sold its interests in oil profitibility when Maggie sold of Britoil and BP.

I sincerely hope you don't think that article was balanced and unbiased Laurence. Charles is a native of the Highlands, afaik, Laurence......so are you saying that, by dint of his origins he does not hold a specific view of the whole referendum debate and does not slant his opinions to promote that view.....or do you just think, because you agree with him, he is correct and everyone else who thinks differently simply do not yet recognise that Unionists have the monopoly on wisdom? I'm a native of the Highlands. I believe Kingsmill is as well. I'm also quite sure that, although he may be a very intelligent person, Kingsmill does not purport to having a monopoly on anything. It does seem to me, all the same, that someone who has chosen to live in, and trade from, the Highlands comes across as very anti-Highlander. A trait that displays a severe lacking in wisdom.

Ach Scarlet, on the Blar Mhor (Caol, Fort Bill) there are midgies bigger than your wee birdie.

Graeme Shinnie is a professional who puts his heart and soul into what he does. ICT are still paying his wages and he will still give his all for this club if picked to play. Suggestions to the contrary are just not in keeping with the lads commitment and integrity. To suggest he lose the captaincy is no more than throwing the toys out of the pram. Players have come and gone throughout our history and they'll continue to do so. They will also strive to be recognised while they are with us and hope to better themselves and their families at some point in their careers. That is the way of most people in most jobs. Best of luck Graeme. Shame you'll miss the chance of European competition.

In all this furore did nobody think to maybe tell those concerned to zip it?

I believe the building was known as Craig Dunain since it opened in 1864 as the Northern Counties District Lunatic Asylum. Initially built to house 250-300 patients. By 1964 it held 1100 patients. Good article here https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lifestyle/health-and-beauty/47587/look-craig-dunains-150-years-history/

Alex MacLeod replied to CELTIC1CALEY3's topic in Caley Thistle
Forecast for tuesday is zero temp and thick cloud. Playing surface should be ok. Wrap up well and jump about. Our goals will keep you warm. -
Why Laurence do you feel the need to waste disc storage space by reproducing an article thats at least six months old? A link would have been enough.
-
Right back replacing a left back? - fair enough. Granted Mark Wilson would be a decent enough signing but money if available would be better spent elsewhere IMO. I do think we could do with another striker as the general consensus is now that Mckay could be elsewhere next season. Do we need another striker this season? - not particularly especially with Calum Ferguson on the ranks already. Just while we are speaking of strikers, I noticed Gregory Tade is now a free agent http://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/Sport/Football/Hughes-hopes-to-give-Ferguson-Caley-Thistle-chance-12012015.htm

My understanding, as of ten minutes ago, is that the A9 is open. A889 is closed from snow gates at A9 junction to Dalwhinnie
