FRONTMAN GARY BACK AND READY FOR ACTION

By Gary Ralston

GARY McSWEGAN could barely lift his legs out of bed a year ago but now he's planning to give defences sleepless nights again.

The former Rangers striker reckons a Harley Street specialist has added another two seasons to his career after he was struck down by a groin injury that sidelined him for almost six months.

I'd been sidelined for the previous five months with a groin injury which had got so bad I literally couldn't lift my legs out of bed in the morning. I had to roll myself on to the carpet before I could get to my feet and rehab at the club wasn't working.

"But the specialist in Harley Street pinpointed the problem immediately. I was back in training within seven weeks of the op and haven't missed a day since.

"I reckon he has added at least another two seasons to my career."

McSwegan also hopes to kick-start his career in coaching and pass on the benefits of two decades of experience.

He added: "I've worked with some great bosses including Walter Smith, Howard Kendall and Jim Jefferies.

"It's great to see former teammates such as Davie Robertson, Ian Durrant, Craig Brewster, Maurice Malpas and Owen Coyle carving out careers in coaching and management and I'd love to follow in their footsteps.

"Coaching, as well as playing, is something I hope to focus on in the next few seasons."

McSwegan, 35, has been put through a rigorous pre-season at Ross County and admits he has never felt better. But his future will lie away from Dingwall as new manager Scott Leitch re-structures the First Division club with the emphasis on youth.

McSwegan, who has played for clubs such as Notts County, Hearts, Dundee United and Kilmarnock, insists there are no hard feelings as he prepares to hit the road again.

Elgin City boss Brian Irvine has sounded him out about a player-coach role but McSwegan is keen to return to the central belt with his family.

He said: "Scott is keen to bring down the average age of the squad and I respect what he is trying to do. But there are still goals in my legs and I'm feeling great after coming through a groin operation in London.

maybe he hasnt signed? paper says we signed no-one??

First post on this site - so please be gentle with me!

I can confirm that McSwegan has definitely signed.  Deal finalised late last night, according to a very good source from Tinkville.  Presumably a quick transfer after the John Stewart deal fell through - just to ensure cover given our current injuries?

hopefully a short term contract,or pay as u play and not some silly 2 year deal for a 35 year old

Ah well - Good that he's back here in the central belt of Inverness....!!

Your post is absolutely fine Mr Bush.... It's your foreign policy and your puppet Blair that I'm worried about..... :004: :004:

If he wants to go down the coaching role, that would make sense as Charlie is wanting to expand the backroom staff.  He may be allowed to work on his badges and contribute to the coaching.  This is only a thought and based on absolutely nothing.  :003: :003:

Very surprised by this move.

His erse is twice the size of mine and will require Tommy to order special shorts decided for short guys with huge erses!

The way he has milked RCFC over the years is also concerning.

Alternatively, it could be a master stroke..............if only

This is a joke right?

:010:

It's not a joke is it  :009:

Can't believe it to be honest.

He couldn't even get on the bench for County when he was fit!!!

I think no signings would have been better than this  :008:

its a wind up.....  i cant find anything about us signing grandpa mcswegan

John Stewart would have been a very astute signing, not at all sure about this one though.
would rather we spent the  £50k on stewart thna pay mcswegan wages

let hope 1 of the 2 trialists next week is a young att

would someone hurrry up and bump this thread into rumours - at least that way less people are going to believe any of this mcswegan tosh

I shall pray it is a rumour. They were mentioning it on TJE as well though.

PLEASE BE A RUMOUR  :016:

So why can CC not offer Dods a coaching post when he finishes his contract?

CC probably could but dods wants to return to the central belt to be closer to his lady and family.

Short term contract is what i was told... aye more like £250 for every goal.

It could have been worse - we could have had Winters as well  :001:

That's exactly what McSwegan's saying in that Daily Retard interview....

seemingly winters hasnt got a club, would rather have winters he,s younger and score more golas, not as injury prone

Nothing about McSwegan leaving on Ross County website. Does say Winters has been released though
