Montrose Away Aug2025

Off to the Links

It's an away day for the Caley Jags on Saturday as they head to Links Park in Montrose. Both clubs have one point from the first three fixtures although Inverness are in a group of five teams that have won twice. Bad day at the home office for us last weekend as Stenhousemuir dug their heels in to sneak away down the A9 with all three points on a frustrating afternoon in the North. Montrose, on the other hand, saw mixed emotions as they came away from Cove with a red card and a point which could easily have been three but for a 94th minute equaliser. Scott Kellacher will be looking for a reaction this weekend and he has options after our squad players reeled Strathspey Thistle for six in the NoS Cup. Montrose must be like a retirement home for knackered footballers. Michael Gardyne and Craig Wighton have both retired.

image.pngInverness were mugged last weekend when Stenhousemuir came North to park their bus before catching us on the hop with a late strike from Ross Taylor ten minutes from the end. It had been a game ruined by the incompetent Gavin Duncan who stopped the game, rightly or wrongly every time a player landed on the turf. He dished out a penalty to both sides before the late strike secured all three points for the visitors. Paul Allan scored our spot kick while Matty Aitken levelled for the Warriors. Our opening fixtures saw victories over Kelty Hearts (3-0 Mckay, Longstaff, Wotherspoon) and a 2-0 home win over Peterhead (Wotherspoon, Sole). An Inverness CT XI played a North of Scotland tie against Strathspey Thistle and ran away with a 6-0 win as they sent Strathspey reeling. A good workout for most of the squad fringe players and those returning from injury. Two goals each for Robbie Thompson and Liam Sole and singles for Jordan Alonge and Mitchell Robertson, all in the first half, killed the tie as we cruised into a semi-final appointment at Forres Mechanics. Great to see Adam MacKinnon back on the park as part of his journey back to fitness. Alfie Bavidge and Chanka Zimba sat this one out, presumably keeping them fresh for this weekend. Robbie Thompson must be knocking on the door as well with another good performance captaining the side.

Scott Kellacher: Has not suffered two defeats in a row yet since becoming manager and he will be looking to get back on track after the setback last weekend. Doc Proc has a few niggles to contend with ahead of this one but we now have a decent depth to the squad. Maybe a start for Bavidge and Adam MacKinnon might be ready to step up a notch after his rehab.image.png

Montrose gained their first point last Saturday despite playing with ten men for the majority of the game. It still took a 94th minute headed goal from David Eguaibor to salvage a point for Cove Rangers in a see-saw game. Ewan Louden scored a brace whilst Callum Sandilands put Montrose 3-2 ahead with around half an hour of play left. Keir Bertie will miss this game after his red card with Ali Shrive likely to replace him. They started the season going down 2-0 at Hamilton on opening day and followed that with a 2-1 defeat at home to Kelty Hearts, Kieran Freeman with the Gable Endies goal. Sean Dillan & Ryan could be fit with Graham Webster ready soon.

Latest from the Links: Defender Evan Towler has signed on a one-year deal, following the 20-year-old’s recent departure from Aberdeen. Montrose announce the premature departure of Craig Wighton from Links Park, following the strikers sudden and unexpected decision to retire from the game at 28.

After last week’s hiccup this is one we really could do with getting three points in or we will start to get detached from the leaders.

With teams on 6 points all playing each other, some of the leaders will drop points so it is an ideal opportunity to capitalise on that.

Hopefully come full time we have secured our second away win and the travelling fans have a happy journey home.

Impressive looking XI. So much so I looked at the bench and seen Sole and thought wow how can’t he get into this team? Got to be confident we’ll take something from this. It’s 100% a must not lose game if we want to be taken seriously for this title.

1 0 Bavidge

Bavidge starting not Stewart

Pish, Stewart is playing 😁

Great feckin start!!

That’ll do nicely!

A massive game next Saturday against Alloa who have won all their games so far.

They’ve a game in hand but if we win we close the gap to 2 points. Lose and the gap is 8, potentially 11 if they win their game in hand, so even at this early stage it is a “must not lose” game.

Time to bring our away form home to Inverness.

Stormin' up the table now.
If it wasn't for the 5 point deduction we'd be just one place below Ross County! 😂

Our first game of the season and a very enjoyable afternoon out. Thought we had the better of the first half and some nice play towards the end of the game - felt like our players just needed to shoot, there was lots of nice play around the box without troubling their goalie too much.

However (puts hard hat on)

I enjoyed the singing from the young team and goodness knows in my past and even today I sang along ...BUT...

Roy McGregor is a p***o and Goodbye you c**ts?

In a week where one of our fans has already been banned for doing pyros in the ground we don't want our fans all being tarred with the same brush and to me that was just unnecessary. As an aside the Zimba and Sole songs are very catchy and clever, so well done to whoever created them.

Agreed, our songbook should be aligned to ‘its bridge is wonderful’ carols.😃

First travelling (not local) away game I've been to for many a year, very impressed with the travelling support and the youngsters getting behind the team. Hope the damaged seats aren't a regular thing though, as that's costly to the club. Great creating an atmosphere though.
