Keep the singing section for next season. This can be a major club asset.

Seems to me that we have a case of lack of preparation and communication that has led to unfulfilled expectations.

The organisers of "the singing section" may have to take a deal of responsibility in this farce.

The idea is analogous to a public march, all details are discussed and agreed with the authorities in advance, not to do so is inviting anarchy.

If dialogue did take place and standing was planned but not discussed, then this was an act of sheer folly.

I would dearly like to stand at the game but alas the rules we have are in place for good reason.

However, the reaction by the stewards and police and the way football supporters are treated in general is pitiful.

The club, last game of the season and all, could very easily have turned a blind eye - if they could. I suspect its not their shout (pardon the pun) and the Match Commander has the say.

By the way, I didn't bother reading the posts infected by text terminology. I'm sorry but the stream of consonants and lack of structure leave me unable to give the posts much in the way of credibility.

Flower, I sympathise and agree that the rules are not being implemented fairly.

On here, this singular point has been repeated as a defence, under the current laws it is the only one that can be offered.

From the gist of your post, you might as well be the chief executive. Pointing the finger at those who tried to create an atmosphere is just sheer nonsense. I spoke to some of these guys on Saturday and they were sound, only trying to enjoy themselves. The trust had discussed this with the club, maybe one of them will inform you of the discussion that took place pre match day.

I just thought of osmething, all the police will be focused on us when we play Gretna as they will have no fans in the stadium. So get ready for strict officials due to bordom.

What is the point in encouraging a singing section then placing stupid restrictions upon them?  Why for half an hour before kick off then for the first 25 minutes of the game were they allowed to stand?  Then again left alone for the last 20 minutes or so? The actions of the police, stewards and club officials in between time not only threatened to kill of the good atmosphere being created but also constantly distracted us from watching the game.  

If they had just been left alone there would have been no problems.  Once again officialdom operated double standards by ignoring the fact that 500 or so Pars fans stood for most of the game.  This reminded me of the heavy handed actions of the stewards almost exactly 2 years ago when we were asked to remove an inoffensive flag from the back wall of the North Stand whilst the Dundee United fans were allowed to invade the pitch, twice.  We were so disgusted with the carry on yesterday that we stood up for long periods in the North Stand in protest at our fans being ejected, yet we weren't asked to sit down.

Ok as much as I wouldnt of quite put it like that I agree in general with what caley4life is saying. Because someone talks in text speak (despite it being a little bit on the annoying side) does not make the point they are making any less valid then you and your oxford dictionary. Some fans may have gone a little OTT with their reactions but that is only because they feel extremely passionate about this subject. I remember not so long ago that you started a thread about a comment that had been made at an ICT game which in your view was racist (thats fair enough). You were, rightly so, very frustrated but you had some very extreme views on the subject and in particular I remeber you condoling the way a certain regular poster of this board decide he had had enough of contributing to this site.

Just to add my twopence worth....

From where I sit in the NS, the over-reaction of the stewards was a disgrace. So what if people were standing!! They were doing it in a specially designated area, decided by the club themselves!

They were in nobodys way, so the problem was non-existant. For once, we get a group of fans trying to create an atmosphere, and doing a **** fine job of it too, and who fecks the whole thing up??.....OUR very own club!

Since we've joined the SPL the club seems to have alienated itself from it's own fans more and more. And it's getting worse in my opinion. We've a small enough support as it is, incidents like this will do nothing to help combat this.

And as for suggesting H+S issues were behind it....bollox. A bunch of over zealous, jobworths in luminous jackets were behind it.

That lot who pose as 'stewards' at TCS have always been the biggest bunch of arseholes imaginable, yesterday just re-inforced that.

IHE is alive and well.  He sent a txt saying he'd reached Edinburgh safely and was having a light refreshment while waiting for his train home.

In my humble opinion, you are quite simply wrong.

If you had taken time to read the comments, you would have realised it is not the supporters in the wrong here, as you suggest, but the stewards and their masters.

Is standing "inviting anarchy"? I think not.

My bet would be on you being one of the fans who said "make them shut up" to the stewards, or were at least thinking it.

Please, please, untangle yourself from red tape and learn the facts.

To physically drag someone out of the ground, and swear at them and threaten them, is unacceptable, regardless of the "offence".

In this case, all that was done "wrong" was standing to build some atmosphere.

And the reaction from the stewards was not on.

Just finished reading all the comments as this is the first time on the forum this weekend.

I was speaking with one of those ejected from the stadium in the Ines after the game.  I said "I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was not an attempt by a certain person at ICT to sabotage the 'Singin Section'!"  I was too far away to actually witness the fiasco but was alerted by the boos that some people were being ejected and thought they must have done something really terrible to deserve such treatment.

It does happen to us at other grounds - Killie and D. Utd being classic examples.  At our last game at Killie we were only about 200 strong and had a whole stand to ourselves but one steward in particular - an Orc if ever I saw one - kept on at one particular lad to sit down.  It was only the intervention of his (the young lads) mother that prevented his ejection from the ground.  I had words with the police myself about how we never caused any real trouble and just wanted to enjoy ourselves and he said there was a Killie Jobsworth Chief Steward in the stand opposite wi' a pair of binoculars and a 2-way radio who was dictating things and he agreed we were causing no harm at all.

There are double standards in operation at every ground where the home supporters and the OF away fans(?) are allowed to stand.  Unfortunately, as relative new boys to the SPL, the ICT management seem to worry too much about the behaviour of our own loyal fans than other clubs.

I, too would like to see the back of Mr Smithbut only because I can't see anything positive he's done for the club with his executive skills.

Incidentally, with regard to the 'Singing Section' - where we sit near the front of Section E of the main stand we could hardly hear anything different to a normal Saturday crowd.  We could hear the Pars fans because they mostly all sang in unison.  We don't do this even at away games!  What we need is more songs and/or chants and we need to spread the scripts out to all areas. 

As i said to IHE after the game we need to take into consideration the make up of the main stand fanbase.  Upper section B is mostly 'die hard sweetie rustlers' who have had their season tickets for this area since year one.  Lower sections B and C is a mixed bag of fans fronted by the WAGS and friends but does contain some noise-makers including one particular Lady who's never been known to be stuck for words.  Section D is normally very vociferous and certain members do their level best to get things going.  Lower sections E and F is again a mixed bag including the remains of last years family section but with no real choir master to get things moving.  The upper levels of sections C, D, E, and F are mostly Corporate and we can't expect any singing or chanting from them.

Hope I didn't lose most of you a few paragraphs ago.  I do go on a bit sometimes.  I wish I knew the answer to making the atmosphere at home games better but I'm willing to try anything except move my seat near the away dug-out where sometimes the 'banter' is brilliant.

We are normally allowed to stand throughout the whole game when we play hearts and hibs away. Makes it a much more enjoyable game as well and helps get the singing going

Indeed.  Some (almost all infact) of the people on here seem to think it is only possible to sign whilst on your feet.  It is also quite hilarious that the fans seem to think that Mike Smith is the one to blame here.  Mike Smith didn't make the rules, he allowed the fans who wanted to sign to sit together.  Now I don't claim to know the exact law/rules involved here but I'm sure somewhere (probably at least on the safety certificate) it will say that you cant stand in the seated areas.  The fans anger directed at Mike Smith is misplaced and should, it would appear, be directed at the people who implemented the all seater rules for the SPL.

With the exception of the alleged threats from stewards I don't agree.  I was standing to start with, the section as a whole were told to sit down, some (most perhaps) didn't sit down and were thrown out, seems fair to me.  I sat down the first time the section as a whole was told to do so and was never bothered again.  It happens at most stadiums the fans (mostly kids) stand up, are told to sit down, don't sit down (or do sit down but then stand up as soon as the steward leaves) and act all shocked when they get thrown out. 

What it boils down to is either ignorance of the rules/law, stupidity, or some sort of desire to cause trouble.  The "but they're doing it too" argument is rather childish is it not.  I can see why people are annoyed when it appears that the away stand can stand up all game but I imagine it is easier to tell a small section to sit down that a whole stand. 

The rules are that in the SPL you are not allowed to have standing sections.

There are also rules somewhere stating that you can't stand in designated seating areas.

Therefore if you stand up for a prolonged period of time at a game don't be surprised if you get asked to sit down or thrown out.

The stewards were right to throw out the people that refused to sit down.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mike Smith ignores the complaints about standing as the rules/laws have nothing to do with him.

For clarification I don't agree with the SPL rules that don't allow standing sections to be used.

I do agree that you should sit in seated areas
