The addition of a large fourth stand is an old chestnut which emerges from time to time but on each occasion the answer has to be "absolutely not". Other posters have already made the point that even OF games don't quite fill the ground as it is. And even IF the Rangers and Celtic ends are just about full, how much demand would there be for any extra capacity provided? The expectation here seems to be that a new stand should be provided at massive cost IN CASE there MIGHT be a FEW Old Firm fans looking for seats on THREE occasions in the year. And what would it cost to satisfy this wish list? Well apart from the very large cost of basic construction (someone suggested £750,000), there is also, as mentioned, the gas pipeline which, if I recollect a conversation with David Sutherland a few years back, could most straightforwardly be solved by a device known as a cantilever to support the stand - at the additional cost of £1 million. So all this POSSIBLY to accommodate a FEW Old Firm fans - and at a time when the club has been obliged to sell off its Social Club for a fraction of the cost of a new stand to create ready cash and still unfortunately runs a deficit. I actually thought that the reduction of the absurd SPL requirement of 10,000 seats - in which ICT played a major part - was the major breakthrough back in 2005 since there were already lots of surplus seats about the country. But here we seem to have a desire for a club which is short of cash voluntarily to go back up to the old requirement to satisfy a demand which doesn't exist. I really think ICT has much better things to spend money on than a stand which would sit empty effectively on a permanent basis. I know the Chairman reads this forum quite regularly. I could guess that he's unsure whether to laugh or cry at this thread!2 points

I couldnt make the game as was away for a few days, thats undefeated for a few games now, still in the cup against a team that all the posters think are woeful, tv money thrown in too for the replay and a money making tie against Celtic for the winning team. All we need to do now is beat Motherwell on Saturday and close the gap between ourselves and third spot and its been a pretty good week.2 points

A lot of the trouble for refs seems to stem from players trying to con them into making decisions by blatantly cheating , maybe if managers clamped down on their players for diving, feigning injury etc then the refs job would be a lot easier .2 points

One word book reviews have always been something that baffled me and seemed rather pointless, something that was done by people who worked for the high brow broadsheets that was designed to make those who hadn't followed a specific education path fell inferior.....until last night (well, the early hours of this morning) when I stumbled upon one of my own. I'd just finished reading Stephen Fry's 'The Liar' when I closed it over and saw the "reviews" on the cover and instantly knew they had all got it wrong......wrong because I knew the word they were looking for was "Unexpected". On reflection I found myself being rather pleased that I was able to sum up the book in one word that I felt covered everything from the story and style to the plot. I think I'll give the one word reviews a little more thought in future before being so quick to dismiss them as pointless....they might be wrong, but the will no longer baffle me or appear pointless. I read a fair bit and will happily flip between most genres depending on my mood and whether I crave knowledge, entertainment or just want to escape the world for a while. As much as I enjoy watching him on TV and listening to him on the Radio, I had never given much thought to reading any of his books as I had this misconception that they would probably make for heavy reading, but I got "The Liar" as a stocking filler and, as I said above, it was "unexpected". It's one of those books that can be read on "different levels", and I don't mean levels of intellect, age (although not recommended for kids) or even class. You can pick it up and read it end to end and thoroughly enjoy the plot which slowly reveals itself throughout the book, but keeps on giving until the end. The individual chapters read as if they are short stories within themselves that could stand alone and leave you quite satisfied. The humour is fantastic and carries throughout the book....in fact it takes the idea of stereotype beyond the ludicrous to the point, well to no point really as it takes you full circle and indulges the predisposition we all have to believing in stereotypes. I believe plans are afoot, and may already be under way for turning this book in to a screenplay or film. I prefer to read the book and then compare it to the on screen interpretation. In most cases it allows you to fill in any gaps in the movie/film/screenplay and enhance the viewing experience. Far better that than already having the plot in your head while reading and knowing what's coming next....for me at least. "Making History" is next on the list of Fry's books for me. It's another stocking filler from a family member who took my love of QI to mean a love of all things Stephen Fry....a bit like a mad aunt or gran takes your love of anything and thinks they should knit you a jumper with it on the front. Many such gifts end up as landfill or charity shop donations...but I struck lucky this time.1 point

James McPake seems to be on the way out at Coventry and he's been linked with the likes of Dunfermline & Kilmarnock so why not us. Decent defender who's been playing at a good level1 point

That's interesting as, unless I'm misunderstanding the area you are referring to there seemed to be no problem with Celtic fans occupying the west stand at 'our' end in the last game. Yes, something which did not escape my attention.1 point

1 win in the last 12 games meant his number had to be up . No way were the owners going to trust Warnock in the January transfer market . so winning the championship counts for nothing? The Championship and the Premier League are 2 different beasts , attempting to compare them is just plain stupid . he won them the championship, they are currently not in the bottom 3 despite 1 win from 12 id say their doing alright. their going through a run of bad form at the moment but thats no reason to sack someone. every team has bad spells some longer than others. if they were bottom of the league fair enough but their not. managers get the sack far to often for me they arnt given a chance.1 point

I can't help but wonder if these thousands of people staying away from games because we don't have a fourth stand are the same thousands that don't go because of the merger. You know, the ones that lead such a reclusive life that they hang out in secret locations only known to them and only ever seem to talk to a handful of people in Inverness.1 point

I think it's fair to say it is now official - 'Useless' Euan Norris is the worst official in Scottish football. Not content with screwing us over against Rangers, he appeared determined from the outset to allow our opponents to take liberties all over the pitch. The sending off of Gillet looked a bit fishy to me - Kenny appeared convinced he'd won the ball - and certainly there was plenty of protest that Barrowman was offside as he put Dunfermline in front. Two incidents summed Norris up - in the first half he pulled up Barrowman for his umpteenth foul and clearly gave him a 'final warning' chat; a minute later Barrowman hacks someone else...and Norris stops him for a long chat again. Then, right on half-time Dunfermline's defensive wall refused to retreat for a free kick even when the ref stood where he wanted them to be. Instead of booking one of them, he gave up when he got them 8 yards...and then ignored the fact that one of them raced out so they were about 5 yards from the ball when the free kick was taken. About the only thing that cretin of a referee got right was adding on six minutes for the obscene amount of time wasting the Pars did in the second half - though I don't know why he can't book the time wasters as well as adding on the time. If I was a Dunfermline fan, I would be horrified and ashamed by their second half performance. They never had any control over the game, even against ten men, and seemed content simply to camp out on the 18 yard box and see the game out. Entire civilizations have risen and fallen in the time it took them to make one substitution. They managed all of two speculative efforts on goal in the second period, as far as I can recall. As for us, we were pretty hopeless with eleven men, but I thought we did about as well as you can expect in the second half. Tuffers is the main villain of the piece - it was his horrendous air-shot on a backpass which led to the Gillet dismissal, and then he only managed to palm the resultant freekick straight to Barrowman. Frankly, he had bugger all else to do for most of the game. Our back four did a pretty good job today. Piermayr did well when tucked in at centre-half, though Coxy looked a bit uncertain when he was shunted to right-back. Once again, Golobart was superb. Barrowman took one look at him and clearly decided "I'm not up for taking him on" - so nothing has changed from when he played for us. Most impressive for me was Foran, who I felt gave a real captain's performance today - he led by example with fantastic effort and seemed to be still urging everyone on even when all was lost. He's had plenty of criticism this season (much of it warranted) but since moved into midfield he has looked like a different man. The big message to take away from this game is this: If Dunfermline are like this every week, then there is absolutely no chance we are going down.1 point

Old news rehashed. You have seen the blueprints I assume ? All I have really seen or heard about is converting existing terracing into ICT style 'temporary' stands to bring it up to 6000 seats ... a full 1773 seats less than TCS. The only advantage they may have is that there could be stands on all 4 sides, but more of that below. Also, the project length is about the same as it took to build our stands, and the cost is lower (presumably because the stands themselves are smaller), so not sure how that automatically equates to a better facility ? What would be even more concerning to me if I was a County fan would be what seems to be a pretty wide scope of cost ... If they are ready to build, and know how long it will take, then how do they not have the cost nailed down a bit more accurately? with a variance of 33% in terms of the low and high ends of their projected figures it seems they may well be looking to see where corners can be cut economies can be made. Depends how you define 'temporary' in terms of the structure. Temporary in this sense means it has a certain lifespan as opposed to say a brick built structure that might last for a century or more. In this context temporary does not equate to short term or "cheap" that you seem to think it does and these stands will be around for a good few years. Whilst construction was quick and efficient, due in no small part to the design of the structures themselves, and a Caley Thistle season-ticket holding project manager who was "motivated" to make sure the project finished as quickly as possible, they were not "thrown up" ... and they will not be bulldozed quickly either given that they cost in excess of 7 figures to construct. Unless you have been living under a rock, or at sea for a while, you may have noticed we're not exactly flush with cash at the moment but if you want to donate a couple of million to the fund to get it up and running feel free to do so. As for bashing the board ... predictable and snoozeworthy as usual. incidentally, to add to the "temporary" stands debate .... the entire structure of BMO Stadium in Toronto with the exception of the main stand is of a similar "temporary" nature and quite happily holds 20,000+ for every home game. It cost in excess of $62m to build these "temporary" structures .... and like ICT, TFC will not be tearing them down anytime soon .... unless it is to increase the size of the stadium. Could have something to do with the high pressure gas transmission line that runs alongside the A9 between the stadium and the road .... in fact, I know it has because this was given as the reason when this subject was debated in depth on here and also on P&B. Utter bollocks !!!1 point
