  1. Driving the other morning and listening to a phone in on Radio Scotland about Sir Fred Goodwin. Felt quite happy after all the doom and gloom about how intolerant our society can be at times as caller after caller saw this gesture for exactly what it is, a token gesture. I do not support the honours system in any way and will bow my head or doff my cap to no man, irrespective of his position or title but........ isn't ironic that the only individual with responsibility for this debacle that is pursued for retribution and humiliation is the son of a sparky from Paisley! The decision to buy ABN Amro did not belong solely to Fred Goodwin in the same way the the successful decision to acquire Nat West was hot solely his. Every decision made by a CE is ratified by a board and the responsibility is collective. In this case it's even worse as subsequent approval was given by the FSA and the Bank of England! If you check the names and titles of those who were party to the approval (and in effect the final go ahead) of, quite possibly, the most appalling business decision ever you will find that, where applicable, they all retain there prestige. None of these guys have been subject to the Goodwin treatment but all are 'collectively responsible'. Why? Could it be that they belong to the Eton/Harrow set now so prevalent within our government? Can't go after our own can we Davie? The Tories didn't even have the guts to put one of their one on show on the radio, leaving it to their lap dog Willie Rennine. A poor excuse for a political leader, he trotted out excuse after excuse for the non action even coming up with the classic- 'Just because there are many guilty parties doesn't mean you don't pursue some!' When challenged by a caller as to why, he had no answer other than because. We all know from school that because is not an answer to why! Yet another example of class humiliation from this pathetic public school government, living in their fantasy world of mansions and Bolly, intent on winning favour in the Home Counties at the expense of the rest of us. Come the glorious day!

  5. Sorted that out for you. Three things.... First off, how do we know it's a "windfall" and that X amount from cups was not already written in to the budget for the season? Secondly, there was a massive hole in our accounts that was filled by the sale of the Social Club and "investment" from Directors....unless other income has increased or spending has been reduced by £300k+ then money from the cup will be needed elsewhere just to make the books balance. Third thing, if we hope to get some return on our investment then we would need to offer him a 2 year extension....whilst it's possible a good cup run might give us a little bit more than budgeted, how do we know we will do the same next season? and if we don't and Jonny stays, then where do we find the money to fund the increased wages? If, and it's a big if, there's available/surplus funds to allow us to pay an enhanced deal and Butcher thinks it would be money well spent them I am sure it will happen.... not just for Hayes, but for other players as well.

  7. http://www.historica...ss_Thistle.html This'll probably give you the best answer. Interesting to note, that Thistle played in a blue and white striped number in the early days, followed a very current ICT-esque blue and red top. Also note that Thistle's first kit was a white and brown striped composition. I'm sure one or two on this site will remember these kits in action! I see as well that some of the early Caledonian kits included a belt!

  10. To be honest, with both Proctor and Tokely virtually the only candidates for central defence, I think we do need to move Gillet to central defence and bring in Graham Shinnie.

  11. What about Sir David Murray, could he be the next one to fall and become just Mr David Murray?

  12. Yeah, income from TV deals, sponsors etc will reduce...to begin with, but when you consider the fact that the OF take the lions share at the moment and that they are less likely to be able to command that if/when Rangers goes bust, then I don't see the rest of the teams losing out on as much as some people might think. Half the money we get now, but more evenly distributed may actually not be such a bad trade off. Also, without the duopoly which dictates that they want 4 (league) fixtures a season against each other, then the powers that be might be more willing to look at extending the size of the league which would make it more entertaining, which I reckon would start putting more bums on seats and help offset some of what might be lost. Sometimes, whether by fate or design, you need to go backwards to find another path that will take you further forwards.

  14. Appreciate you probably don't get to many games being in Southampton but Celtic Park is the worst away day. You can actually recreate it in your garden by following these easy steps: 1) Stand at one end of your garden. 2) Place a TV showing the game at the other 3) Place a massive pillar in the way of most of the action 4) Recruit local miscreants to holler indecipherable rhymes about religion, Ireland and themselves. Make sure they are dressed in tracksuits. 5) Get some minimum wage neo-fascists along, stick them in a day-glo coat and get them to act like onanists for two hours. 6) When the game ends, charter a plane to Beirut and walk about there for a hour or so. That's the Celtic Park experience. Having said that, when you win or get a draw from 2-0 down, it's worth it. I'm probably going to come along to this game as it happens

  15. Our club has a history of losing its best players at the end of one season and then not noticing they're gone the next.

  16. This topic was split from another thread and it was the first post that sparked the off topic conversation. The £50K was the alleged offer for Lee Cox, nothing to do with Hayes, but the rest of the thread is about Hayes. carry on folks......................................................

  17. Cant just go pying certain players way more than others. It causes resentment and division. Stick to the wage structure.....if Johnny goes...so be it, i reckon he may well regret it, for all sorts of reasons
