  1. Was glancing at a Scottish Cup preview of the Wick v Linlithgow Rose game and discovered that Ryan Baptie is now on their (Linlithgow's) books! He came to us from Hibs on a one-year-deal at the beginning of last season - and was considered a promising player, predominantly a left-back. It was even thought that he could eventually be the successor to Shinnie. He did well in pre-season but didn't threaten our first-team and was subsequently released at the end of the season. Peterhead then snapped him up - but it seems he's now back 'home' now playing in the Juniors.

  2. No Charles, instead we'll all whinge about the means of paying for the Tory U-turn. 5% cut in Scotlands funding and this http://www.thenational.scot/politics/axing-1bn-carbon-capture-contest-threat-to-600-jobs-and-environment.10468 Isn't it also strange that the claimed billions in losses from North Sea revenues would have had such drastic effects on Scotlands wealth if independent yet have no effect, and are never mentioned, in UK budgets?

  4. Getting back to the "Performance of SNP MPs in Westminster", I note that the SNP's foreign affairs spokesman didn't attend today's debate on the case for UK military action in Syria because he was instead occupied with important constituency business attending the unveiling of a portrait of himself. You couldn't make it up!

  5. I'll put this down to Alex suffering one of these Freudian states of denial where he can't even admit to himself that the obvious answer to his question actually lies in one of the fundamental reasons for Scotland needing to remain within the Union. In view of what the size of the Scottish economy would have been post-nightmare scenario, the disappearance down the toilet of North Sea oil revenues which we are now seeing would have been a pretty well mortal blow. On the other hand the UK economy is around 12 time bigger so can stand this and other similar changes a whole, whole lot better - which is just one reason why we are far better sticking where we are. Could you imagine the scenes of panic and angst if there had been a yes vote and then a few short months later the oil bubble had been shown to burst, despite the "second oil boom" and $103 a barrel predicted by Salmond? Well I suppose there's always Grand Theft Auto....... Everybody's funding is being cut, but Scotland's remains significantly above everybody else's because of that other benefit of the Union, the Barnett Formula. If the Nats want to provide services over and above what can be funded by current revenues, then why don't they use their powers to increase income tax and also scrap the Council Tax freeze, hence also releasing the partial compensation for that offered by Holyrood for other things? Intriguing that the link in the quoted passage should be to that unquestioning SNP soapbox The National. The other day when most front pages were reflecting on the likelihood that the 55 would become the 54, what does that National have? "It's our first birthday!!!!" Cracking stuff.

  6. Lopez must first have a fair hearing Then the club cam make their decision. I remember seeing a movie long ago named "Waterloo." A corporal was caught in the act of stealing a pig from a peasant in France which, in these times of war, was a capital offence. When Christopher Plummer, playing the British general, Wellington, rode up on his hoss and asked what all the fuss was about, he demanded that the Corporal explain his action. The corporal replied.. "Deeply sorry, sir, it was an impetuous act, instantly regretted." Wellington, always a brutal realist and knowing that he needed every experienced man in the ranks, paused for a minute and ordered. "Subaltern, promote that man to Sergeant... he knows how to get out of a tricky situation!" Maybe Senor Lopez should reply at his hearing. "I suffer from asthma, Senors, and I was choking and needed to make this play to save my life. It was an act of impetuosity, instantly regretted and I am black affronted not to mention deeply ashamed. ............."

  7. Yes, but we were two goals up at the time. We were also hanging on for the last 10 minutes. My concern would be that if we allow Celtic to come at us, then we will concede and lose.

    • Inverness CT 1-0 Montrose Play-Off Second Leg (0-0)
Little Consolation: Inverness will face Hamilton Accies in the Play-Off final after nervously scraping past part-time Montrose who were eventually reduced to ten men when Blair Lyons was sent off after an off the ball incident in the 84th minute involving Morgan Boyes. Inverness had dominated throughout, but failed to capitalise on their possession, and as per the entire season failed to create much of note. The first half was livlier than the first leg, but the same problems showed up our lack of quality. We started with no wingers and Billy Mckay as usual in a withdrawn role. It's not worked all season, so why should it suddenly work now. A woeful first half ended goalless and it was on the hour and out of the blue when Billy Mckay prodded in from three yards to score the only goal of the game following a corner

    • Inverness CT -V- Montrose - Second Leg (0-0)
As much as we have criticised the Caley Jags performance on Tuesday night, let's not lose sight of the fact that Montrose are a decent League 1 side with a good blend of experience and talented prospects. For our part, let's keep them as a good League 1 side and that means no room for faffing about. Time has run out now, there's no hiding places and no room for shirkers. Ditch the sideways passing or put goal posts in front of the Main Stand and tuck shops.

    • Montrose 0-0 Inverness CT - Play Off 1st Leg
      FULL TIME: 0-0

All to play for on Saturday, but don't hold your breath...

However, if we continue like this, it will be our final game this season.

Best performer for us was Samson Lawal, the only bright spark on the field.

Alloa 2-2 Hamilton was the other semi-final score tonight. On this evidence, I doubt either side will be quaking in their boots.

    • Inverness CT 3-1 Morton - Report
It was a lovely evening for a game of football, what could possibly go wrong? Well, what did go wrong was Queen's Park beat an understrength Airdrie 2-0 at Hampden, therefore despite beating Morton 3-1, Inverness head for the play-offs. Morgan Boyes opened the scoring with a thumping volley after half an hour. Kirk Broadfoot benefited from slack defending to level before the break then proceeded to earn the wrath of the home support with an embarrassing celebration in front of the North Stand. Cammy Harper relieved Billy Mckay of penalty kick duties and duly slotted home from the spot ten minutes after the break. The scoring was completed just after the hour when Sean McAllister drilled home into the bottom corner. Robbie Muirhead had been sent off for simulation then taking a wee fit to himself and was promptly sent off after 58 minutes just after Harper had knocked in his penalty kick, probably aggrieved that he never earned a spot kick for his dramatic dive.

    • Inverness CT -V- Morton - Preview
Well, where do you start. It was clear from the begining of the season that something was wrong. Poor signings, dismal performances in the League Cup followed by an abysmal start to the League campaign saw Billy Dodds removed from his position after winning one point in the first six Championship fixtures and replaced by a man with no track record as a manager. A sort of publicity stunt if you like. After the initial new manager bounce wore off, we found ourselves little better off with Big Dunc than we were with wee Billy. We did claw ourselves up to the coat tails of others but the most damning part of our season has been our inability to score goals, especially at home. Only already relegated Arbroath are worse than us. Our team is now full of mercenaries, loan players with no affiliation to our Highland pedigree and many fans have tagged us as being the worst squad ever in our short history. Where are the Golabeck's, Tokeley's, Wilson's..... Much of this can be attributed to our lack of financial nous in the boardroom, failed ventures and now the begging bowls are being put in place to save our club. Having drawn at Dunfermline last week thanks to Aribim Pepple's first goal for the club combined with Billy Mckay's penalty miss, it's now out of our own hands. LAST SIX: D L  W W L  D
