You might want to discuss this at your next meeting! Nothing you say is untrue, but the concept of being a "representative" - in most Western democracies, such as our Parliaments - means that you are empowered to use your own judgement in trying to do the best for those whom you represent. You are not a delegate, sent to vote a particular way. Yes, you should listen to the supporters, but in some cases it may be that you as a Board member, and indeed the CJT Board, may take a formal position which is different from what you believe the majority of members may want. I can't think of a specific example, but it's quite possible that you might end up supporting, or not opposing, or not speaking against, some unpopular action taken by the ICT Board, even if the majority of members were apparently against it. You are, as you say, democratically accountable to the membership. Just like MPs, you are empowered to take your own decisions, and if the membership don't like what you do, then they will periodically have a chance to vote you out! I offer this as a constructive observation, as I think that it's very important for you all to achieve a common understanding of your powers and goals, and policies and strategies, before you set out on what will probably be a rocky road. I appreciate that it's very early days for the new-look CJT, but maybe you could organise something to be presented to him at his first game at his new club, since we never had a chance to say goodbye. Maybe a memento of the Highlands, rather than of ICT itself.

I said there was a case to be made - I didn't say that I was going to make it! Google for "London independence" and you'll find plenty of material. There was an upsurge in activity after London voted 60-40 to stay in the EU. I agree that it's a non-starter, but it's worth looking at both sides of the argument, to see how the running of a large urban area - and I'm thinking of others such as the West Midlands, as well as London - could be improved.

In fact, given the population, politics, economy and indeed history of London - always powerful enough to hold sway over monarchs and parliaments - there is an interesting case to be made for independence for London.

My reply was "You're probably the only person in the ground who knows that". Mind you, from the after-match sing-songs on the team bus I learned that there was a Catholic version of "The Sash", so that reply might not have been accurate. In the late 60s and possibly early 70s, I used to go there for piano lessons - as did quite a few of my contemporaries. The nuns were all very friendly and happy people. La Sagesse (the Wisdom) is, I believe, a teaching order. One of my strongest memories of the place is that there was frequently the most glorious smell of bread or other baking permeating through the building. Someone really knew the art of temptation!

Still, Peterhead had two sent off - clearly suicide when you're already 2-0 down from the first leg. My wife's family are all Stenny supporters, so I'd better not say any more!

Interesting idea, and well-worthy of discussion. Not quite the same scenario, but back in Highland League days, Jock McDonald sometimes offered a job at Tomatin Distillery to a player whom he was trying to persuade to sign for Thistle. Useful if it was someone from outside the area, with no local connections. If memory serves me right, Ian Cumming, the captain of his first league-winning team, was one such. There may well have been others.
