D.E.P. -how can one close it down?

Jay 7 I successfully deleted IE8 but now Microsoft are perpetually dumping another pop-up onto my desktop begging me to re-install it. Go figure. I tell you, sometimes you simply can't win. I have no idea how to stop this pop-up at all but believe me ,I have tried. Have a nice day. Grin. If you get too technical with me I am afraid I can't follow you Jay 7. e.g UAC in Vista ? No idea ,I run Xp not Vista which I don't fancy since I have heard that it is not worth it and it costs too much anyway. Bigger better and more up to date is not always the best as far as I can see. I fell for this by installing IE8 thinking that it would be more quick and functional etc but this is not the case at all.Pain in the butt more like for me . Now I am back with IE 7 I feel more comfortable. Thanks for your efforts to help though Jay 7 Apreciated. -
Ame Truthfully I don't know how old you are but you sure hit e nail on the head about the younger generation these days. They have more than any kid in the past ever had, better food, access to cars, more money in their pockets and the abilty to be in constant contact with all those they call their friends. They also have the opportunity to be anyting they wqnat or go to any country that tey may choose to live their dream and succeed in a way that was never dreamed of when I was a young teenager. In my day in the workplace you were gently reminded every day that you had to toe the line, wait for dead men's shoes for promotion AND BASICALLY WERE LUCKY TO BE WHERE YOU WERE REGARDLESS OF EFFORT, AMBITION or ABILITY. My answer to that was, and still is..." Really? well goodbye chums have a nice life I am the modern Dick Whittington and my pole and hanky pack is tied to move and I am off to pastures new, to seek my fortune and find fulfilment whether it be financial, mental OR emotional . Here's the rub, the act of taing that momentous step to emigrate instills in you a certain something that does not allow you top fail and when you find out that the only thing stopping you from succeeding in your new country is your lack of desire-to work ,to work and to get ahead. It does not matter whether you fail at any job in this scenario because you are not a loser unless you stop trying. Also , it's huge world of new things and adventure out there and WELL WORTH STRIVING FOR--but how many kids of today have the desire to go away from their homeland and see what is out there for them? In my last visit to Inverness I realised that I could not ever again live there--the town had shrunk in my eyes, prices were ferocious compared to Canada, cold as hell in August and I was totally miserable physically for almost the three weeks I was there. Climate change? Maybe-but that is a gey dreich ,rainy , cloudy freezing place to live. House prices are very high even by Canadian Standards and gas is double what I pay in Canada. And VAT at 17%--quite incredible ; we moan like crazy about the Goods & Service stax here of 5% plus Provincial rip off tax of 7% , but there would be a riot if we had to pay 17%. Canada is not perfect but, boy, compared to what I experienced as a young lad growing up in Scotland the youth of today are spoiled rotten. When I was in my teens I was not often bored finding lots to do around the town .For today's youth, get the message loud and clear that if you really want a varied expansive life put your computer into a perspective which includes the understanding that it is not the be all and end all of existence, merely a very useful tool to make your life easier. And , if you don't have ahearattack reading this get off yer duffs and get out on your bikes --you wills ee more from that stance than you will from a car. And if any of you want more information about emigrating to Canada just send me a p.m. Ta buckets Scarlet

Yep! I've said before where is all the money going to come from to pay the wages of all of these players. When i heard $3200 per week for at least one I nearly had a faint. -
I once lived in Streatham and then Norbury. Does that count? Remember going to the ice rink to get me weekly bout of exercise. Bought me first car there too--it was a 1935 MG sports with yellow coachwork and red pure leather seats. Broke down at the first traffic lights--took it back to the probably -now- long-dead car dealership in Norbury close to the maindrag there and the guy says I'll give you fifty back out of yer hunded quid. Ripped me off good and proper. Needless to say the odometer was not working Ha! Ha! . Well you live an learn--strange, I never yet got the better of a used car salesman in me subsequet years. How's Croydon, ? Massive by now probably. I enjoyed walking up Streatham Heath hill for me jaunts with the young ladyfriend I had in these days. My son anddaughter from her are now over forty. Sigh --how the tempus fuguits....eh?

Coloured--a rarely heard term here in Western Canada. Blacks are always called Blacks. There are so few in Vancouver anyway that it is somewhat a waste of time to dwell on it.

Dead Ball Specialist I do believe you may mean "compare" do you not? I mean "conflate" the check out girls is a new idea for sure. Go on, you really meant to use the word "inflate" didn't you, you saucy devil?

Jay 7 However, I have now managed to get rid of the Uniblue Registry Booster 2009 programme entry in the Add/Remove section of the control Panel. Here is how I did it:- I went online , sought out the programme from their site and tried to install it.--to avail since it stated that it could not install it due to not being able to reference the network location. Go figure! ???????????. This happened twice more when I repeated the process. My thinking was that if I could install it again then I could remove it from the start/programmes list if they had an uninstall exe. listed there, thus avoiding using thje uninstall button in the Add/Remove section which might not work again for me. Therefore I decided to go to CN Downloads which have always had top notch marks from me. Lo and behold , searching for this programme on their site it came up with a link which I downloaded onto my desktop then attempted to run it to install the 2009 version.s The response from it was to tell me that it would have to uninstall a previous version first which it had detected (clearly the one lone entry which I was trying to remove). So I said ...be my guest .. then it removed the programme name from the ADD/REMOVE list and I simply went back and deleted all the download since I had no intention of installing it for use anyway. Now this route sure avoided the tortuous Registry scan and delete process which to me is ,and would possibly be, dangerous. Still getting the pop-ups--given up on this one I think? Bye for now -
Buckett--where HAVE you been. ? Delightful surprise to read your always diverse thoughts. Personally speaking I think that ICT should put all our players on drugs, increasing with the difficulty of the match in so far as expectations of defeating the opposition is concerned, then TB should really get in a total lather issuing instructions to players to thrash the opposition teams within an inch of their lives--10-0 would be good on average, developing relentless frenetic attack after attack, hopefully until one or all of the players collapses or collapse depending on the number of players left on the park at any definable time....... Then the fan base who will never be satisfied can at least be less semi-permanently not satisfied than usual. The point being that the task of satisfying everyone is never going to be achieved. So what is the point of this and similar threads? A fan is a fan is a fan.. B)

Jay 7--that KB article is confusing to say the least. I don't think I will attempt it unless I have a really good sleep and the day dawns mild, sunny and balmy. Right now the humidity inn Vancouver is again climbing relentlessly. But thank you for bringing my attention to it. Re IE8 I went to a site and downloaded it separately (not from Automatic Updates )then run the exe. file. I still retain the exe file in my storage file on the desktop along with the IE7 exe file . Re the temp profile --if you mean from the initial set up with this pop-up , then yes I did try a truncated version of the set-up but ,when the pop-up kept comimng back, I gave in and tried to install everything that they offered just about but to no avail. Same old, same old. Any further thoughts--like go back to IE7 which was actually working fine. LOL ? -

Re DEP--I have been putting IE8 into the exceptions box of the DEP site but then clicking "Apply". Then I tried simply clicking "O.K." instead of "Apply" which is beside it and it seems to have worked.Keeping fingers crossed on this one. So far so good. As for the other two queries is anyone on here able to comment at all ? At least about the Internet Explorer "set-up Pop-Up" which always comes on the screen whenever IE8 comes up.It is so annoying.? Thanks . -
On the flip side however...... I was watching him closely in one match . At this point on the right side of the park he was in a ruck of players with little room to move. The ball came to him and instead of muffing it he quickly got it under control. But what impressed me about Andy here was the look of determination on his face and the quick way in which he moved the ball forward. So--he may have what it takes if he can regain his confidence. Realising that poncing around will get him nowhere fast maybe if he can finally note that he must create moves and follow up with determination--tackles etc. I mean he is not the smallest guy on the park is he, so why not? To put it bluntly my question is simply this ..."does he have the grit and passion to ger intae it mun ?"

Lots of sun encourages the production of Vitamin D. This then translates into stronger bones which means they can then push themselves harder in training. Allied to that is the undeniable fact that the hot sun boils their blood and they have to run faster and faster to cool it down. Otherwise they die from dehydration or the get blinded from gallons of salty sweat trickling into their eyes. Finally it's that sun again--cold blood leads to sluggish performance; you should try skiing down mount Everest, man is it tough trying to even get warmed up enough to lace yer boots up. Then, obviously, the opposite being hot blood expands the blood vessels which is absolutely great for loosening up the muscles, all pain disappears after 55% and you feel fantastic. B) :tonguecheek: I learned that in a dry Far North Canadian Sauna. So there you have it folks..whatever!

Encouraging to hear a teenager trying to be fair to a generally maligned player whom I have also seen in action myself at Tulloch Stadium. But I still think that Andy Barrowman must work very hard and in a very determined manner this season to make his mark.....or else. ICT at this critical stage in their development cannot afford to mess around with a player who cannot find a way to get over any issues of confidence or an inability to decide to run looking for the ball ; He is a highly-paid professional player and therefore he must contribute. Or he must be transferred ,or re-assigned by way of loan to a more generous club perhaps.

Medial cruciate ligament? That's arthroscopic surgery at least , probably, for sure. The pain may go when any debris from the tear (s) is removed but the strength and stability of the knee may never recover without a full re-build. Bet he won't be back for 3 months minimum. Very interested to learn the full outcome though?

Can anyone help me on these three problems please? 1. DEP or Data Execution Prevention keeps closing my Internet Explorer 8 claiming an error. It does not specify the error, nor the possible faulty Active X or ADD-ON which may or may not be the cause , but offers ways to control this type of thing.e.g. "go to DEP and enter I. E. into the exceptions box".I have done this again and again but it makes no difference. It still states that I.E. is a problem and needs to be closed. Then of course you lose the whole site and so it's back to the desktop. Not only does it happen on the ICT site frequently but on other sites as well.It has become a real time waster and very irritating.Does anyone know how to close off this DEP thing completely since I really do question it's value? 2. The second question I have is how do you get rid of the name of a former programme which has been completely deleted but still shows the name in the "Add/Remove" list of current programmes in the Control Panel. I have tried everything from CC Cleaner, using the start/search to find remnants but am unable to find a way to delete this . 3. Internet Explorer has a very annoying pop-up at it's start up--a big blue box offering you Accelerators and a way to set it up etc. I have gone through this several times and set it up the way I want it but this box keeps coming back every time...and back...and back. It's as if it won't accept your settings or something unless you accept all of their offerings , most of which is just padding and advanced ways of using it that I neither need nor want? If you phone Microsoft you get two calls and then they start charging you money for each sunsequent call and I found that the people who are answering the calls are not very knowledgeable anyway and can waste your time as much as anything. Many thanks in advance . .

Scotty--thanks.Dunno what we overseas wallahs would do without you . I tried getting the DAFC link to work without success even after supposedly "installing" the Add-on supposed to be required. Too many highlights of Dunfermline in acdtion though as opposed to seeing the ICT players in action.

It's that old chestnut again folks. Anyone to some posters who tries to better himself is a traitor ,etc etc. Is there a law against a man or woman trying to better themselves? He was not breaking a contract so let him move on with kindest regards after doing his best for ICT.

A very strange post from the Pimple

Matilda is very impressed by your fortitude and persistence Johnboy. She feels that although you came close to a mental meltdown you are again one of us ..but you might be well advised to stick to the football since this is a deep and mystifying subject that needs a lot of study. :021: A novice can't jump in to the deep end like this you know... She says that your last remark was very generous and kind to Uncle Scarlet who, she freely admits, is the kindest Spiritualist that she has ever met. A free yearly subscription to the Witches Covenant Convention, a new broomstick every birthday and being able to arrange a 500 mile race for her against a Canadian Royal Air Force F18 jet to see who can break the sound barrier first puts Uncle Scarlet on a pedestal as far as she is concerned. But--er--she must also reluctantly tell you that this was no wind up and he meant every word he said! :024: But now you are seasoned in the School of Disbelief and Hard Knocks and will eventually be our star pupil we know you can handle this ..we know it is difficult, challenging and can often result in total confusion but ...just keep at it lad, jjust keep at it.. :clapping03: Now the next discussion will be about Ectoplasm so do your homework my dears and come to class prepared. The Oxford English Dictionary has a good description of what this substance is and it will also refer you to "Cytoplasm", "Endoplasm" and "Protoplasm". To be quite frank I had to read all of these references more than once to comprehend what exactly they were communicating ..now I know at least that they are all linked. Very briefly this ethereal substance is produced by certain very special Spiritualistic mediums from any orifice in the body and can form into the shape of a person. Sometimes, however, it forms into the shape of a hand, called a pseudopod, which can and may write down words or a message. I have never seen this myself but have seen highly documented and attested photographs of this dynamic phenomenon. Moving right along... :clapping03: :clapping03: -
A very strange post from the Pimple
Scarlet Pimple replied to Scarlet Pimple's topic in General Nonsense
Johnboy--I just wrote a reply to you in an ironic and humorous vein. Somehow the post was deleted just like that BUT not by my hand. This is not the first time that this has happened to me on this site and when it does I get irritated and think it is a glitch but later reflect and say to myself well maybe that would have been better left unsaid and it is possible that someone somewhere did not think that it was an appropriate reply! These things happen to me and are outside of my control. Like it or lump it? So I am quitting whilst I am ahead. Say what you like, it's a free world. Hi Dam, It sounds as if you are really serious about these experiences which we all respect I am sure. All things are possible in this area and it is not possible to comment specifically about them but stranger things have happened. If it was comfortig to you and your family then it is valid. If you review what you know and subjectively keep an open mind do you think yourself that the facts in this situation fit and would make sense in a spiritual context.? As far as your future experiences are concerned why not simply go with the flow and allow your opinions to form gradually? What matters to you is what you yourself feel is correct in your heart and if you are true to yourself then I think that you will also decide what is right and what is not.Hopefully this helps ? I am not a practicing medium, I have never taken a penny for attempting to render such a service nor would I , I hope , ever do so. My experiences of acting as a medium were in a development circle where each participant gets a turn to meditate then state what they have seen, felt or heard during this period of quiet. Unless other people give you feedback how can you tell if you are accurate or not in your statements? And each of us is mentally assessing the accuracy of each statement from others if, and when, it applies to us . As time elapses your confidence in your spirit guides increases and you hope that what you say to another therefore increases in meaningfulness as you progress. My wife is more spiritual than I, as far as I know anyway, and what she tells me of her experiences with her spirit guides is astonishing especially when she asks for healing prior to going to sleep and and awakes pain free, when all the pills in the world hardly help at all. Gotta go now. Matilda our cat has just come in to see me. She is jet black and has just asked me if she can park her pointy hat and broomstick in the cupboard and of course I said yes! Now she won't leave me until I pay more attention to her than to the computer. Life gets tejious don' it? :boldblue: -
A very strange post from the Pimple
Scarlet Pimple replied to Scarlet Pimple's topic in General Nonsense
Caley Mad in Berks--handbags and jerks ..Ha! Ha! Back Scarlet not because of his friends upstairs but because he has far more experience . And in my earlier post may I remind Johnboy that the freeway speed I was doing was 70kph--no one is allowed on the freeway in Canada , with or without a bicycle, unless they can do 60kph minimum. The lad can't even get his facts straight so no wonder his thoughts are chaotic And he is still in the mix because he is quite interested really so I am thinking he must be a closet medium--otherwise he would have quit this post before now because he is always going off the topic and contributes nothing positive and never asks any questions so how is the poor lad going to learn anything .... Dead Ball Specialist--as in any walk of life there are people who do things for money who are good, bad or indifferent. As I said early on in this thread you, the sitter or receiver of any message purporting to come from spirit sources through any medium, must in their own mind sift the wheat from the chaff and judge for themselves how accurate the message is for them. You can't generalise as you do on the flimsy evidence you quote. But when a medium whom you respect but does not know you intimately and tells you something that it is completely impossible for anyone on this earth to know about you because you have never ever communicated it to another soul what then? And what if this comment from the medium goes back many, many years to an unfavourable incident in your childhood that you remember vividly but is a very private moment for you, never communicated to anyone else in your life, what then? What would be the purpose of spiritual guides telling you this? --to confirm their presence to you and reduce your scepticism that there is actually life after death ? I think so since it is common sense. Or to ensure that you understand that you are being observed at all times and that there is absolutely not a thing that you have done or thought that is not known and recorded for or against you? I think so, it's common sense since the Law of Karma cannot be in existence and operate fairly and dispassionately unless every fact about a person's actions in this lifetime are carefully noted? Unless, of course, you don't agree that there may be any such thing as the Law of Karma? But I can assure you from my personal experience of evidence presented to me over a long period of time, that has been sometimes inspiring, sometimes astonishing and daunting, that everything about me is an open book to the spiritual forces with whom I am associated and I will leave it at that. It is not humiliating but it can be eye-opening and humbling too. For some, even scary............... -
Morgan Spice--yes you really put your finger on it as far as the overseas contingent is concerned. For me I can only say it was very frustrating morning; every link I tried there was either no real information, no updates or no response and even the chatroom was empty. So even finding out the score was hopelsss. Eventually I drifted back to this thread and Tichy Black helped us out by posting the score for which I thank him. Oh well a great start to the season B)
