Much as i would love yer fears to be founded i am too long in the tooth to go down the "stroll in the park" line of thinking. The first division is always competitive with all sides capable of upsets and with us being set up as the big boy's in this years league ,every team will treat us as their must beat game so it will be affy tough. That said, this is the most confident i have felt going into a season since relegation, most years i was just hoping there would still be a team to support come the new season. ictchris , i understand yer cynicism and i've seen enough false dawns and dodgy deals at Dens in the last 40 odd years to know shecht when i smell it,but I genuinely believe Bob brannen and the current board are the real deal and getting Callum Mellville (who is a bona fide business man) on board is a massive bonus. Roll on the start of the season :D

Scottish League: 3 clubs insolvent Governance Monday, 22 June 2009 Hamilton Academical, Hearts and Motherwell all considered insolvent according to Equifax. Equifax, the financial information supplier, has said that it believes three of Scotland's top league football clubs are technically insolvent. Related Articles Equifax man to lead ACCIS Rude awakening Equifax: increase in fraudsters targeting SMEs Speed of business failures slowing Scottish insolvency tenders announced Hearts and Hamilton Academical have been listed as insolvent as they would struggle if all their creditors came at once to demand the money they are owned. Motherwell Football and Athletic Club Limited is a company voluntary arrangement, so automatically given zero points and insolvency rating. St. Johnstone and St. Mirren are in the best possible financial health according to Equifax as they both scored 100% in their credit rating check. Equifax is warning that some Scottish clubs could find it hard to source new funding, based on their current credit scores. Despite preparing to splash the cash on new players, many of the top football clubs already owe more than the value of their assets. As such, Equifax External Affairs Director, Neil Munroe, believes this data could provide an important reality check for the clubs. ?Our Equifax ScoreCheck review of the SPL credit ratings certainly rings some warning bells about the Scottish clubs who could be facing financial difficulty for the next season. Not even Premiership football is safe from the recession if investors decide to withdraw funds. ?We have listed 3 clubs as insolvent because they would struggle if everyone came at once to ask for the money they owe. Of course, that is unlikely to happen, but like most other sectors of the UK economy it is likely to be a difficult year ahead for the nation?s favourite sport. Also, with the possibility of Setanta going into administration, the smaller clubs may find it increasingly difficult to make payments and remain solvent.? St Mirren, despite narrowly avoiding relegation this season, achieves full marks (100) in its credit score along with newly promoted St Johnstone. However, although finishing the season third in the SPL, Hearts has a score of zero and is therefore listed as insolvent. Hamilton Academical also fared badly, scoring just two points. In general, the lower the score the more likely a business is to experience difficulty meeting its financial obligations. When compared with English Premier League clubs, the performance of Clubs in the SPL is, however, quite positive. Just one team scored 100 ? Manchester United. And 11 teams had such low scores that they are technically classed as insolvent.

I never pay too much attention to paper talk and speculation, these "done" deals often turn out to be agents talking up players and trying to raise interest.I'll agree it's a done deal when the fotees are on the official website. We have however, signed Irish internationist Chris Casement from Ipswich today and thats a done deal
-
Have any of these 2 deals been confirmed yet? Cause i didnt think they had No, not official yet, still rumours .
-
your quite right about him being a Dons fan Alex, i put my tuppence worth in on the other "Brian Kerr Offski "thread in the rumour mill for what it's worth http://community.caleythistleonline.com/in...25&start=25

OK Alex, i'll correct you,Callum Mellvile is not in the building trade but is involved in your world ,him and his brother own Cosalt marine supplies to the oil and gas industries. He is currently negotiating with John Bennet a united director (who came over the road to be on the Dens board for a short period and assisted financially to help us out of the mire) to purchase back Dens.

Been a Dee ah meh days, but when i got posted to Alness with the RAF i used to come to Sneck to watch Caley and Thistle when i could make it.Saw the 3-0 v Killie game and several Caley cup games which convinced me of the potential and supported highland league footy and followed the angst of the merger.Always wondered how i would feel if ICT made it up the leagues, but the semi at Hampden decided me and heart ruled head, although i sat in the ICT end, as a few on here know i had my Dee top on that day ( i was the **** punching the air when Nemsadze poked it in) I encouraged wee Heilan to support ICT as i always believe in supporting your local team and when he was on the pitch when ICT were promoted to the SPL i felt sure he would be ICT for life, but kids loyalty surprises you and when we went down, he said he'd rather come to Dee games with me even tho he'd get slagged at school he could take it! He's got a season ticket for Dens this yaer :D (kids eh? bring a tear to a glass eye :009: )

The current situation at Dens has arisen through a huge amount of hard work by supporters groups and the current board, mainly the efforts of Bob Brannen who has managed an astonishing financial turnround in the fortunes of the club since the low point of ?27 million in debt and staring into the abyss,to the current situation of Dundee FC as a club having very little debt to speak of.Callum Melville was recruited after the board placed adverts in national newspapers to recruit new board members,a move which at the time was mocked but seems to have paid huge dividends for the club.Calum Melville is a self confessed Aberdeen supporter who wanted to be involved in the running of a football club without the hassles endured by Stewart Milne which come with being involved in running your local team and never getting away from the pressures involved. He has pledged to match pound for pound all seasons tickets sold above last years total as well as putting in cash for players and is in negotitations to buy Dens back.I genuinly dont believe this another "peh in the skeh" scenario, (and believe me, i've seen a few over the last 40 odd years !) but a genuine and properly funded attempt to mount a serious challenge this season and get back into the SPL.

Old boy fed up with years of his wifes constant nagging decides to arrange a contract to have her bumped off.He heads down to local dodgy pub and is introduced to "Karl" "how much will it cost" he asks, 5 grand is the reply. "and how will you do it?" A single shot through the left nipple answers Karl. "ach",he says "thats nae use, i want her killed no knee capped"

Now i dont understand or move in the world of high finance, but there seems to be a bit of history in the big money stakes, i spose beggars cant be choosers! "Mr Blavatnik's petrochemicals business, Lyondell Basell, which filed for bankruptcy protection in January owing $26bn, sparked a row when it emerged that Royal Bank of Scotland had been forced to write off a ?2.5bn loan to the company made by ABN Amro" As you say Ywngie, he's also invloved with top up TV which is possibly the limpest idea in TV broadcasting history, launching pay channels on a tv platform branded "Freeview"is hardly the work of a marketing genius! i've nae idea how that limps along,i've never had one customer enquire about it or ask how to subscribe etc. :sad01:
-
Setanta seem to be over the worst for now, just hope they do something to improve the appalling picture qaulity and dire customer service so i can subscribe again next season :sad01: Setanta taking new subscribers again
-
Think with most petrol staions in these rural areas it's a case of phoneing and asking "what time do you open"? the usual answer is "what time can you get here"?
-
Look on the bright side folks,Irn Bru seems pretty stable :004:
-
For anybody cancelling, make sure you put it in writing,Setanta are renowed for the difficulty in cancelling subscriptions' i was a victim despite giving several weeks notice, they continued to deduct monthly's for 3 months before getting it resolved and forcing the issue to get reimbursed probs cancelling Setanta.... Things look tough for clubs that are banking on the dosh if it disnae materialise come August.... SPL clubs in trouble
