Nothing to add that has not already been said a slow first half but a GREAT second half performance and a cracking result against Aberdeen, well done to all!

Have to disagree Gringo... Levein had the best crop of players available to any Scotland manager since Craig Brown. If you look at the complete duds that Berti tried out (Maurice Ross, Robbie Stockdale, Paul Devlin anyone?) it's a wonder he got us to a play off - nevermind won the first leg. The current crop of players, while I am not saying that they are world beaters, are the best any manager has had to deal with for many years and Smith and McLeish did not too bad with worse. The blame lies mostly with the utter arrogance, incompetence and buffoonery of Craig Latrine in my opinion. Burley was on a hiding to nothing with the media from the moment he started - the very first headlines about him were criticising his tie at his inaugural press conference. Compare this to the way they treated Smith and McLeish... Do you think they will f**kin dare try that sh*t with Strachan?????? I think we all know what response they'd get. I feel that in the short space of time a manager has with his players at international level GS can make a difference and use this effectively. I'm not saying he's going to magically make everything better but I do feel your comment of him not "lasting the pace" I have to disagree with. That's all I have to say about that! You wern't a fan of Levein then!

Hard to believe this is almost 20 years ago. So many great memories of Caley, Telford Street and the Howden End, however this Howdender has no regrets about the merger, and the subsequent achievements and successes, in my opinion, vindicate the very difficult and troubled process to complete the merger. I agree with you Kind of Blue and a good History Lesson Mantis!

What will they do if the new league proposals are accepted when the bottom 4 teams of the Premier play the top 4 of the Champiomship (if thats what they call it) the fans will be sitting at some grounds and standing at others!
-
Yeah Rangers might as well join the Highland League , they`ve enough fans up here anyway. Thats a fresh idea!
-
At least you had more sense and are now watching Premier League football and another person is now following Wick Academy!

In possibly an earlier era, Marshall Notman (who changed his surname to Grant and was a distance running champion as well as hooker for Highland Rugby Club and PE man at Craig Phadrig Hospital) used to run a mini van round Dalneigh (and maybe elsewhere) selling rolls. This was in the 60s when streets maybe weren't so busy and Marshall used to keep the van running, unattended, down for instance St Andrew Drive where I used to live, while he would run to various front doors and back to the van, delivering bags of rolls! Must have been posh in Dalneigh with a van, it was a boy or girl on foot with a basket in the Merkinch. It would be risky doing that now in quite a few areas of the CITY now you don't know where the van might end up!

Richard was the son now in his early 50's of the polish man who had the Telford Roll Co in late 60's- early 70's, not a clue how to spell his surname though. They used to sell rolls round the doors in the Merkinch. The bakery was in what I think was the old fort on Telford Road under the arch where flats are now built. The bakery behind Millburn Academy was Morrisons on Diriebught Road beside the old Highland Printers which is also now flats. They had a shop in the market and up the hill.

I remember as an Army Cadet doing a guard of honour outside Cummings Hotel 73-75 for the annual Burma Star Association dinner which had a good number of members back then. It was not till later in life when you hear stories and read about what these men had endured during the war that you appreciate what they did for us. On a lighter note while working in Lows supermarket in Bridge St when someone new started it was common practice to send them to Gilbert Ross for Rubber Nails, Tartan Paint and Elbow Grease! On one occasion one boy was sent for a Long Stand, after about 2 hours he came back which was longer than usual but the joke was on the supervisor as he had been round the record shops checking out the latest albums!

Thank you CMIB!! That has jogged my memory just perfectly! I am now also pretty sure that Pagliaris of the wee rounded blue van with the Harry Lime music fame also had their permanent base in the Academy St chip shop. I also remember EVA 11 but possibly after the days when it was a Riley or an MG. Back in the 60s that was the best chip shop in Inverness that I was aware of although I never really tried Jojo G's at the Bught before they moved to Hilton which is currently the best in my view. In that era, Serafinis was also pretty good and you even got a decent portion for 4d. Who ran the chipper in Wells St before it became a Chinese? I don't remember the Riley or MG a bit before my time only moving into Inverness in 1968 from Fort Augustus where Pagliaris ice cream vans were a rare treat on a Sunday! EVA11 and I think 11EVA are on cars owned by a daughter Laura who is married to Drew Ross of Sunshine fame and live in the Crown.

So was Dorando's the cafe up opposite the Phoenix? I remember Victor Fornari - he was in the year behind me in school. The hairdresser's was upstairs in between the Locarno and the corner of Queensgate. It was very popular among teenage girls in the 60s if i remember. Dorando's was opposite the Phoenix and the Locarno was opposite the Academy st entrance to Macrae & Dick with an entrance from the market as well. Also on Italian restaurateur's you had Charlie's in Margarets st run by Charlie Pieraccini and Charlie's chipper on Grant st where you could sit in and have your tea was run by his brother Clair. Clair's son Martin took over the Cafe in Margarets st about 20 years ago which he had rebuilt about 10 years ago.

Before I ask "which one", could someone confirm that that's George Junior rather than Dougie behind George Senior? I think it's "young" George but both Messrs Rodgers, whoever the younger one is, indeed do look very happy - and rightly so. It's a good book on Clach in which I think Rodwill Clyne may also have had at least a hand. I'm guessing the photo may be of the celebrations after Clach winning the Highland League title in 1975. There's an interesting post script to that, beacuse the League Flag, normally raised on the first day of the season at home, wasn't raised in 1975 at Grant Street until into September which is a fact I stumbled across purely by accident a few weeks ago. The key to this mystery is possibly in who Clach's opponents were that day. Beacuse the away team was none other than Caley and my theory is that the Clachers delayed the ceremony until they had the opportunity to perform it right in the faces of their neighbours and local rivals! I was referring to George senior. Believe that is young George behind but, like yourself, not entirely certain. That is young George behind he must be old George now! He ran the shop on Grant St at the time and it is his son who I think is also George that runs it now.

I know of 4 supporters, 3 Caley and 1 Thistle who never went back to a game while I would have prefered Caley to have gone it alone ICT were and are still ahead of our shadows and have a Premier Team to follow which is great for the youngsters of Inverness and surrounding areas. You are right in saying quite silly, they are the ones that are missing the great football now!

You are sounding like Derek Adams! A great comeback well done to get a point from United Who is sounding like Derek Adams? I am in another country with no access to any comentary or video or such like so I asked a question on here. I'll rephrase it so you may understand better. Why was there five minutes added on? Did someone get injured or what? Sorry Alex it was not a serious comment should have put this in.
