  1. Maybe the difference is that United have an experienced competent manager.
  2. and the rest, crowds of no more than about 1,800 paying not much more than half SPL prices as well as related reduction in commercial revenue. Also the sponsorship income from Clydesale Bank. In our case I bet that would be around ?1,400.000 in total only marginally offset by the parachute payment.
  3. That's right although, being in England, it was manslaughter.
  4. The fact that Dundee United put three goals past and were on the verge of beating the same Rangers side who humiliated us shows just what a bad result and performance that was.
  5. A new stadium and debt wiped out, that has a familiar ring about it !
  6. I suspect that Foran would be outwith our budget.
  7. I believe Rooney has the potential to become a fine striker in a year or two. The trouble is we need someone who can do a job consistently for the first team now.
  8. I agree with much of what's been said about the extremely high level of fear and tension prevailing at the time and tend to believe that an error, or to be more accurate a succession of serious errors were made rather than any deliberate plan to take the man out come what may. That, in the circumstances is just about pardonable. What is inexcusable, in my opinion, is that now, in the cold light of day and having had years to reflect on the issue, police officers are apparently conspiring to perjure themselves to show there action in a somewhat better light and at the same time implying that innocent civillian witnesses, who have no motivation for being anything other than entirely honest, are lying. Now that's nothing short of disgraceful !
  9. It's a modest payment made out of the SPL's tv revenue to go some way towards easing the financial plight of teams relegated from the top flight at least in the first two years.
  10. The problem is that it wasn't "going fine" right up to last Saturday. Our last decent performance was against Killie weeks ago and we were even outplayed for the first half hour of that match until they switched off for some reason.
  11. I wonder if there's any point in trying to pursue Dods again in January ? As far as a forward within our price bracket is concerned, I'd like to see us make an attempt to land Kenny Deuchar on loan.
  12. Nothing at all was a hugely excessive price for watching that first 45 minutes
  13. I'd like to see Barry on from the start even if, as is probable, he doesn't last the full ninety minutes.
  14. We are far from doomed, the players have the talent to survive, it's still largely the same squad who kept us up before but if we are to survive then performances and leadership both on and off the park will be a factor. As things stand, I personally would rate our prospects at about evens.
  15. I reckon that in the event of relegation our turnover will be down by well over a million even taking the parachute payment into account. More once the new Setanta deal kicks in.
  16. Given that it might well be an issue at the end of the season if we carry on at this rate, what's the current level of the SPL parachute payment ? I know that a few seasons back it was ?250.000 for the first year and ?125,000 for the second. Has it increased since then ?
  17. Brewster can't be blamed for taking the job in the first place , he was coming very close to the end of his football career and clubs were not exactly clamouring to employ him as a coach or manager after his abysmal stint at Tannadice. Nor can he be blamed for clinging on to his job now as he's unlikely to get another in football after compounding his disaster in Dundee with an almost equally poor spell back in Inverness. It's not even his fault that he's a poor manager and tactician. I'm sure he does his utmost to be successful but that it just far from good enough. Responsibility lies with the board, they were the ones who opted to re-employ him as a manager after his dire failure at United and they are the ones who see fit to continue to keep him in a job now when his lack of ability is being exposed week in week out and is in danger now of dragging us towards relegation and financial disaster. If the board do not act quickly and decisively then any ill that befalls the club as a result will be their fault and nobody else's.
  18. Just to be even handed on the subject of the massacre of Glencoe, he's not that keen on the Campbells either!
  19. A decent man so it would seem but the sad truth is that so far as his involvement in football is concerned, he ultimately did more harm than good.
  20. We don't need a manager as good and as experienced as Harry Rednap. We just need one better than we've got at present.
  21. Proctor did have a poor game but I can see why you might want a more experienced defender to play at Ibrox rather than Duff.
  22. I've heard similar reports from a number of sources although I have to say that they're all third hand.
  23. Good to see some revenue being raised away from the football side. I suspect that it will be much needed !
  24. To be honest, I can't see many folk buying programmes anywhere but the ground.
