  1. The Scotland result because it was much more of a surprise. Frankly, Iwas astonished that Scotland overcame France but only mildly surprised that we beat a mediocre Rangers outfit at Ibrox.
  2. No great surprise there.
  3. Despite their current mediocrity, it would be very pleasing indeed to be above the once mighty Glasgow Rangers this far into the season.
  4. Paul Sturrock's best friend.
  5. I doubt it very much. There wasn't even a signifigant increase in our first home match after that historic victory at Parkhead.
  6. Sixth place would represent great success. A nice run in the Scottsh Cup would put icing on the cake.
  7. Five at the end of last season but that was after the split when we were pretty well clear in seventh place with not a great deal to play for.
  8. I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Paul turrock as a candidate for the Hibs job.
  9. Typical of Elgin, throowing it all away with the record in sight !
  10. Not to worry, in three weeks time you will be entirely correct. We have beaten Elgin in a competitve fixture but in a local competition rather than a national one.
  11. This league season is shaping up to be quite different from our first two seaons in the top tier. In each of these seasons there were a group of teams who were so hopeless that they became detached from the body of the league leaving middle ranking clubs like ourselves battling it out in a zone roughly between fifth and ninth place. This year, apart from the top three, there is very little to separate the other teams in the league with any one of the nine potentiall capable of finishing anywhere between fourth and rock bottom. Despite our recent run of results we are, after all, only six points ahead of the bottom club. This is shaping up to be a very exciting league indeeed with every single match crucial. Back to back wins against Falkirk and St Mirren could put us in pole position for fourth place and potentially a UEFA Cup slot whereas consecutive defeats will drag us right down into the relegation battle. Interesting weeks ahead.
  12. You never want anyone to lose their job but Brewster, like Paterson and Roberson before him, knew that he was taking a risk leaving the most secure job in football management for a "bigger club" and greater financial rewards.
  13. Charlie is an as yet inexperienced coach but this result certainly goes a long way to polishing his CV.
  14. Strictly speaking we have beaten Elgin in a competitive match can't remember whether it was the Inverness Cup or the North of Scotland Cup.
  15. Bayne will never be a natural prolific goalscorer but no forward in the SPL works harder.
  16. Who were the first team to put five goals past Gretna ? I could have sworn we beat Dumbarton in the CIS Cup not so very long ago.
  17. Now that we've deservedly humbled the once mighty Glasgow Rangers, there only remains the mediocre Aberdeen as the only team we haven't beaten in a competitive fixture. How apt that ICT will make history in front of a live TV audience when the dismal Dons come calling next. How remarkable would it be for our two former Highland League clubs to be able to claim competitive victories over each and every club in the league system not much more than a decade afterr stepping up to the plate. We can't let our formmer landlords stand in the way of such a boast for any longer.
  18. Not beyond the realms of possibility but I expect to see Craig Levein in the managers chair at Tannadice by the end of the season.
  19. England's misfortunes last night certainly went some way to easing the pain of our own defeat.
  20. I agree entirely, very sloppy, ill informed, journalism.
  21. Another factor is that he's at an age where, as a forward, he may not hve many more new contracts to look forward to which might make money more of a factor than it was for the likes of Ian Black who, all else being equal, might have another 12 -15 years in the game in which to maximise his incom.
  22. Mixu Paatelainen was my hope as Brewster's replacement last year, not that I haven't been 100% behind Charlie since his appointment. He is a man with international experience as well as experience at the top level in a numberof domestic leagues. What he has acheived at Central Park with very limited resourses indeed shows that he has the seeds of coaching ability as well. It will be a refreshing change to sit back and watch the merry go round spin for once without being too fearful that our own coaching team will become involved.
  23. If Craig has anything like the sort of season he had last year he will be much sought after and we may struggle to keep him.
  24. I fear that he bubble may be about to burst.
  25. I doubt if there will be a place on the bench for both McSwegan and Wyness especially as the SPL rules dictate that we should have two under 21 players in the 18.
