Works for the best interests of the top 8 clubs of the SPL for prime revenue. points system for league and reduction to 8 teams is seamless.
But makes a mockery of teams going all out to put points on the board in div 1 , do the 1st div points disappear when merging with SPL and what happens to the bottom SPL teams points, the split of SPL /SFL wouldn't tie in and would have to filter down all the leagues too.
If you wanted to make any attempt at splitting a SPL league fairly you could with 14 teams.
After 26 games are played, 1 home 1 away, the top 6 SPL continues and play 1 home 1 away = 36
After 26 games are played, 1 home 1 away, the bottom 8 forms SPL2 and plays 1 home 1 away =40
It doesn't have to be called SPL2 you can just run a dotted line through a table and call it the SPL as they do at present.
All the points home and away are accumulated fairly.
More TV revenue and a larger gate for SPL, less at gate but more games to help in the SPL2. and an SPL2 cup to play for, it may seem like a worthless cup to some but a cup is a cup.
1 relegation and 1 play off
