  1. And they have just been relegated to the fourth tier of English football. Shows the difference in money between the two leagues!
  2. I know he is not everyone's cup of tea and he had shaky moments, but I felt he grew in stature and form as the season progressed, and we did have one of the best defensive records in the league. I hope he stays as we need more than four defenders we can depend on, and injuries and suspensions are inevitable with defenders.

Definitely great news, and David's comments on the website about everyone pulling together are spot on.
  4. Pleased to see Vigurs retained. He took some stick, particularly early in the season, when he was clearly playing when not match fit. He chipped in with a good few goals, and when we were struggling always seemed to be motivated. If Devine, Mutombo and Roberts do stay, we have kept a good nucleus of the squad together, and two or three new signings will probably do it, hopefully including a couple of strikers, although we have still to see what Fisher can do. i still think the new season will be tough, but at least things are looking more promising. Hopefully we find a Manager soon, and all the players get a good pre-season so we hit the ground running. Time will tell!
  5. I like the sound of McCall or Sheerin with Foran as the assistant.

Must admit I have mixed feelings. He will always be associated with our best ever year (to date!), but if he feels he has done all he can, it may be the best all round. The Board is right to avoid over committing the club financially, as that would be a recipe for future disaster. Regardless of the rights and wrongs, getting the appointment of the new management team right is key. Most of all, I hope we get unity in the ranks to help us through a difficult time and hopefully set us up for a top six finish and a good cup run (or two) next season. I certainly believe we should be thanking Hughes for his part in our achievements.

    Irony....

Just went into the club's website to see if there was anything about Hughes. I happened to notice that the league table is in points order rather than reflecting the split, implying we had a much better season than we actually had. I assume the club imports the table from somewhere rather than it being wishful thinking. Some light relief in our current uncertainty?

This has been coming for some time. i agree with many of the comments, but it creates uncertainty and worry. I hope the Board move quickly to get a new Manager in, as otherwise we will struggle to have a squad in place. The right appointment may encourage some players to sign on again, such as Raven or Roberts, but there is no chance if this becomes a drawn out saga. I have an open mind about Foran. He is a motivator, but the lack of experience is a downside. It could work if he has an experienced assistant, or if he becomes assistant to an experienced Manager. Whoever it is, they need a good scouting network and contacts, to find the Drapers and Tanseys of the future. A willingness to give game time to some of the youngsters would not go amiss either. Personally I find the situation very sad. Two dramatic semis and two finals, one of which is my highlight as a fan, with Hughes in charge, so he should go with our thanks and best wishes. I am worried about next season (but I always am) but just hope that we get a united front: Board, Manager and fans all pulling the same way, and working for the best of the club. Fingers crossed! Thanks for the positive times and memories Yogi!
  9. STV has just reported that the tension between Hughes and the Board is increasing and he could leave before the end of this week.
  10. That would be unfortunate for Ferguson. Also, no mention of Devine in the club statement. Does that have any significance?
  11. Is Marley still out injured?

Thanks David, your goal celebration at last year's semi was epic: the look of surprise on your face!!
  13. I could not make today, but great way to end season. Good that David Raven got his chance to say farewell. After last season, I predicted 8th this season, so we beat that. A tough year in many ways, but overall probably as good as we could have expected. If anything, our home form was the let down, as 7 defeats was far too many. I saw four of them, Motherwell twice, Hamiton and United, and generally came away thinking "how did that happen". We had successes. Polworth made the breakthrough, Storey was a godsend, Draper became our key man, Tremarco has shone. Unlike some, I would give pass marks to Devine and Vigurs. Without the injuries and if Cektic had let Christie stay, top 6 would have happened. On the downside, some signings were poor, and we really need Hughes and the Board to get on the same wavelength and get players signed up. It was a real shame that some players seemed to fall out of favour, especially Raven but also Vincent and Roberts. Looking forward, I will get my season ticket and be there as often as I can, and hope we build a top 6 team and have another cup run. Most of all, we need to get back to unity, Board, Manager, players and fans all working together to make our football enjoyable and successful. But, let's not forget, I'd have taken 7th if offered in August!
  14. Encouraging statement. Intrigued about the likely contract offers and signings. Hopefully we identify a good striker. Looks like Fon Williams is being preferred to Brill.

Like other posters, I hope this gets resolved and Raven stays. There are two images I will never forget: 1. The sheer joy and surprise on his face when he scored the winner in the semi against Celtic. 2. Whilst I was sobering up in Glasgow so only saw it on You Tube, his leading of the singing at the celebrations after the final. I agree, let's make "Stand by me" our song for the rest of the season!
  16. Apparently, according to BBC yesterday, it has never happened and only one team from outside the top flight has ever won the cup, East Fife.
  17. Sorry Renegade, posted before I saw yours!
  18. Heard on radio recently that they make more in a day from funeral teas than they do from away fans. Do we need a crematorium next to the stadium? Lol.
  19. Listened to second half. Great result. Vigurs goal sounded a cracker and he could have had another. Hopefully we kick on and ensure safety. I predicted 8th pre season, but 7th would be nice..
  20. We are, but we remain in danger this season. Even if we win the next two games, top six looks a goner given County play Partick. We need a draw there and Dundee to lose at Hamilton, so very unlikely. After that, we have 5 games against teams we have largely struggled against, so I have my fingers crossed that the positive team appears, and we get the results we know we can get if we fulfill our potential.
  21. I agree. Other than the home Astra game and Saturday he has been pretty sound. that said, would like Deano to stay too!
  22. Ha ha. I wish that was true!
  23. Disappointing result. Thought we shaded it as better team. First goal embarrassing. We should not have lost In terms of players, back four ok, Tremarco was my man of the match and very unlucky not to have scored. We criticise Vigurs, but he did have urgency about him after his goal, so was up for it. Draper was poor, tending to pass poorly but won the penalty. Polworth had a quiet game. Mutombo was lively and in some ways our best hope. Up front, Hughes is being played out of position but worked his socks off. He won a lot in the air but lacked back up. Storey was ok. Both Williams tried hard, would like to see Ryan W get more game time to see what he is capable of, as he seems lively. Not sure whether Meekings may not be fully fit, hence being replaced, as he was reluctant to take the defence on. We should have won today, or at least got a point, so top 6 looks a gonner. Hopefully we get points against Hearts and United, but both will be tough. We need to hope Hamilton lose tomorrow in Aberdeen.
