To all the spooks and ghouls out there and, for all of you with young children or grandchildren, I hope that you will encourage them to go out for the ancient Scottish tradition of 'guising' rather than any pale, over commercialised,modern imitation from the US.

That said, I will reluctantly concede that is easier to carve out a pumpkin rather than bending spoons more effectively than Uri Geller trying to hollow out a half frozen neep!

Maybe the hoards of kids going house to house should be shouting “Track and trace!”

The ship has sailed though in terms of commercialisation and Halloween is much more of a thing than it ever was. I’ve never seen so many houses and gardens decorated for it- not just this weekend but for the last couple of weeks.

Only scary thing this evening is the thought of us bottling the league...

I totally agree in the old days we used to make our own costumes and you got nuts and a toffee apple  now it's costumes bought from the shops and you get sweets and money

Yup, its a big deal over here .... We had literally no-one last year and a big sign on the door saying 'sorry' due to COVID so this year the kids were out in force ... must have been 200+ came to the door in the space of about 90 minutes before we totally ran out of stuff to give out. But we did keep some back for the little guy who didn't want to go out himself. 

A few photos from this afternoon before it got dark ... and one of the pumpkin i carved earlier which just had the equivalent of a pound store multi-coloured tea light in it. To me it looked more impressive that a couple of animatronic things we had (ghost and spider) but was the cheapest decoration we had ! 

 

It was all quiet in these parts. A few houses had displays but there were no house calls. It's definitely got more commercialised from when I was a lad. Never used to do the 'trick or treat' thing back in the day. We used go around the local grave yard at the Church to see the ghosts...never saw any. Total farce. 

I think the Americans have got it right on this one. It’s for the kids and they absolutely love it. Things can always be improved and don’t need to stay stale. Just because as kids we got rubbish monkey nuts and had to dunk our head in some water for a bruised apple doesn’t mean the trend needs to continue. 
 

 

If you mean over commercialisation,  and blowing things up out of all proportion,  then the Americans are good at it.
