Tade vs Rooney

Considering there's been a lot of whinging about how we haven't adequately replaced Adam Rooney, and how we don't have an adequate goal threat, and that Tade isn't a 'natural goalscorer' (whatever the hell that means), I thought it might be interesting to compare Rooney from last season against Tade from this season:

Rooney in 2010/11

All competitions: 21 goals in 42 games (41 starts, 1 as sub)

SPL: 15 goals in 38 games (37 starts, 1 as sub)

Tade in 2011/12

All competitions: 6 goals in 15 games (13 starts, 2 as sub)

SPL: 6 goals in 14 games (13 starts, 1 as sub)

Note that Rooney's goals included 7 penalties, 5 of which were in the league. So he only scored 10 goals from open play in the SPL last season. Tade is, in fact, only 4 goals away from equalling Rooney's total in open play for the whole of last season in the SPL!

Tade is proving his worth, 8 goals from open play, could have been more but a one in three average in the SPL aint that bad. OK he is best when he hasnt got time to think, but at least he is getting the chances, and remember Roooney missed a few sitters aswell. If Gregory improves his one on one ratio, he would be getting chased by bigger clubs, so what do we want? Hope he is here to pass the 100 goal mark for us in 6 or 7 seasons

SHUT UP! sorry but the last time i checked Rooney was a god round here and could score 1on1s. Tade is good but 15 1on1 misses to 2 goals and have you seen him take a penalty? Theres one on youtube and its crap

Also would we be in the spl if we didnt have rooney? no 27 goals! Love Tade but Rooney is still miles better.

Rooney was a great player for us, no question. I just don't remember him chasing any lost causes or pressurising any goalies trying to clear a pass back. It could be an age thing with memory tho'

He did score at Raith once by taking the ball from the keepers feet and rounding him. Cant think of anymore tho.

I dont honestly think they can be compared. They are two very different styles of footballer. Both have done, or are doing, their bit for ICT and both will be remembered, in years to come, for their part in our history. Just in the same way we remember all the players who've gone before.

Just imagine if they had played together...... Tade to chase the lost causes & Rooney to finish the hard work :love02:

Rooney wasn't the greatest at one on ones either!

No question, it would be Tade for me. He has more of an all-round game, especially outside the box, where he has that rare knack of being able to make things happen. He has great attitude, application and persistence. I would not like to be a defender against him. Rooney to me was more specialist, maybe more accurate, but I would take Tade in a head to head any day.

Both being forwards makes comparison obvious but tend to agree that they are very different players.

For me, Tade is improving and showing great commitment to the cause. He will prove good value for money. All I will say is that (certainly at this stage in his development) I don't expect many English Championship clubs to be lining him up for signature.

Rooney, despite being three years younger, has enjoyed far more experience success at a higher level that Tade. In the future that may change but at present Rooney has to be regarded as the better player.

(Awaits the bombardment for the unerringly faithful who still maintain that Brian Thomson was a better player than Craig Dargo etc )

Sit down Adam.

Tade is scoring from open play, how many of Rooney's goals were from the penalty spot?
