Arbroath -V- Inverness CT - Preview

Seaside opener

The season gets real on Saturday when the opening fixtures of the Championship kick-off with Inverness travelling to Arbroath to take on the 'Smokies' with fans from both sides being allowed entry, albeit on a restricted basis. The ball starts rolling at 15:00 as season 2021-2022 gets underway for the Caley Jags under the new leadership of Billy Dodds. Good to see the supporters bus getting an airing for this one after a year of inactivity.

Our standard League Cup exit was confirmed before the Hearts game with Stirling Albion clinching second spot in the group. Good luck to them. We went through the motions against Hearts and but for a superb performance by Mark Ridgers we would have conceded a hatful of goals. It ended 1-0 to the hosts after substitute Jamie Walker rifled in a sharp finish to end our League Cup games. One or two positives from the game but the gulf in class was evident as the Jambos prepare for life in the Premiership; for us, another season in the Championship starts at Arbroath, a side we have found difficult to break down of late.

Things are looking up for Arbroath with news that over 800 season tickets have been sold. That's great news for the highest placed part time team in Scotland who have come up two tiers under the guidance of the wily olde Dick.

Latest Team News

Michael Gardyne is suspended for Inverness after his straight red at Tynecastle. Sean Welsh is still injured but it was good to see Anthony McDonald back on the park after recovering from his knee operation. David Carson has missed the last couple of games and Billy Mckay has not surfaced since we signed him from County. Let's hope we get these guys back on the park sooner rather than later.

Dick Campbell has former Edinburgh City player Liam Henderson suspended for Arbroath, but captain Tam O'Brien is back after a foot injury saw him miss the last few games. One miss for them this term will be striker Jack Hamilton who has returned to Livingston. Ex Dundee player Nick Low will be an asset at Gayfield this season. Bin man Linn will always be a threat to a static defence.

And here's the Billy and Danny show ahead of the visit to Gayfield

  • To those travelling, enjoy the day and encourage the guys to get the result we need to get the season off to a great start. I’ve signed up to the livestream, so will be with you in spirit!

  • Brilliant result. Our record against the Arbroath has been pretty dreadful recently so to get a win and a clean sheet to start the season is extremely pleasing.

  • Harper might be better left midfield as he is good going forward and crossing the ball.

Joel Nouble was certainly a handful, but was also quite predictable.

I had to look him up, but he’s on loan from Livi who signed him from Aldershot. At the age of 25 he’s already had 15 moves including numerous loan spells. He’s also played international football for Cascadia in a non-FIFA World Cup!

Stewards let them pile in too. Very poor

Yup who also put a young lad in a choke hold and dragged him oitbofbthe stadium then decided to throw anyone who spoke to them to challenge it out. Very poor state of affairs when fans were being assaulted. Both physically and verbally and nothing done.

Shane’s goal now on line:

It was very helpful that the Arbroath player ensured Duku’s pass made it to Shane!!

The goal highlights what we can do when we move it quickly, and it was very well taken by Sutherland.

Strangely the livestream was from the other side of the pitch.

Sounds like they have outsourced the Dundee stewards 😉

Funny it was the same steward who was told to leave at Dundee. SAFE TAY

Just as you had to look up the player, I had to Google Cascadia.

For some reason, it didnt feature much in the Higher Geography syllabus in 1979 !

Jo Nouble got nobbled

Taking a guess that that's the lad who hopped the wall after Shane scored. Chokehold seems a bit excessive for that.

No it was at the start of the game. Lad was slightly tipsy but happy and singing and two stewards ran at him like he had committed murder and physically restrained him putting him in a choke hold and dragging him from the ground in the choke hold. Handing him to the police. When  challeneged about their excessive force they threatened to thrown me out. They didn't have a clue what they were talking about and one of the stewards older bald buy with glasses proudly admitted it was him and the steward from dens who did it When the bald one admitted using the choke hold.

Video it.

Request there videoes of incident.

Report it to caley arbroath and league for review.

But if you do that all parties are in a formal process including the fan.

I believe it was seen by club officials and representations are being made to Arbroath. Fan was taken away by the police as far as I'm aware. Stewards became arrogant and threatening refusing to engage and continued to harass the away support after that.

Tagged both clubs in a tweet regarding it earlier today, but it appears I've been patched...
