World Cup

Apologies for posting this in the main forum ...

Ryan Christie, Ryan Christie, Ryan Christie ... there we go, now its ICT related 😄

Do users want a separate sub forum for the World Cup (and by extension the Euros in a couple of years time hopefully) or should we simply stick with the "Other Football" category? A separate forum would allow us to keep it all in place and not get lost with other stuff, keeping it in the general football category could also be done if we just prefix every world cup thread with a tag of "world cup".

I am not bothered either way as neither is a huge task.

He posted a live update this afternoon and he’s an appointment at the US Embassy at 0730 tomorrow and his Police Certificate is clean, so fingers crossed for him.

He’s been supported by Jamie Stone who got Douglas Alexander to meet the US Ambassador on behalf of all the fans who have been caught up in it.

And other than being mainly County fans, the Torridon guys are good guys as is their music.

Seems really daft to be honest, especially as he seems to have higher security screening than most folk in place and was already in the USA on the same ESTA a few months ago. Reading between the lines, and from one comment he made in the last few days seems to be a bit of a glitch where some people have been caught out because the system flagged they didn't have the (English) ACPO check even if they did have the Police Scotland version.

I did see his video earlier where he was on the wrong train platform and blamed Grassa lol Hoping he does saunter up to the desk in the embassy and jupe the queue like Matt Lucas, preferably wearing his kilt so he can go straight to Gatwick when it gets approved. Sending good vibes his way.

He put some effort in to righting an administrative c**k up.

What Scotty said in this thread appears quite widespread: Scottish fans having issues because they did not have a Police Letter from England or Wales.

Hopefully Kenny’s efforts will have helped other fans in the same position.

Yes I seen that by 15 minutes ohmy flying tomorrow now. It will be costing him a fortune! You can see why so many cut their losses and didn't go.

Am I the only one thinking that the visual of the USA supporters in the stadium at their game looks like a "Where's Wally" puzzle !

Switched on ITV’s coverage for the Swi-Qat match this evening. The good news is that an ex-manager of ICT is one of the panel. The bad news is it’s Big Dunc.

That's why I'm only watching the game and doing something else instead of listening to the pundits.

Are they in a studio in blighty? If not how the f*** did he manage to get in with his record?

Tell you what.. Morocco are pretty feckin good, Playing either of these teams is going to be a tough one!

I recorded it and managed to watch it without knowing the score.

That was a tough watch, and I fear that we’ll come up short on goal difference and fail to be one of the best third placed teams.

However, we’ve a record of not winning games like that so at least we won the game, only our fifth win at the World Cup Finals.

I recorded it too, also without knowing the score. Kind of wish I did know now as it'd would have saved over 90 mins of my life. Best part that game was your wonderful anthem. Amazing.

I decided to stay up (sort of). I had unintentially nodded off on the sofa between about 9 and 11:30 then woke up, watched the remaining Brazil v Morocco match then sat and watched the Scotland game. It was light when it finished so I took my dogs for their morning walk 4:30-5:30 then went to bed for a few hours.

England are looking good! As usual they have a truck load of great players but to date have never realised their potential at big competitions.

The way they played in the second half against Croatia is an indication that things could be different this time around.

Happy for Tuchel. It would be ironic if they win it with a German in charge 60 years after they last won it. Sporting life tends to throw up these kinds of serendipity from time to time.

They will get caught out pitty-pattying around in and level with their own box. Came close to calamity a few times last night.

Are they always going to be able to score more than the opposition?

I tend to agree with this.

No, probably not. But, with the bloated tournament such as it is, the next game against opposition of the quality of Croatia or better is not likely to happen until the last 16 and momentum by then might (or might not) give the confidence to overcome.

Personally, I'm struggling to get into this WC so far. As yet I've only watched two full matches (England & Scotland) and the second half of Brazil v Morocco. I've seen the goals from maybe half a dozen other matches. Maybe when the group stages are over it will grab me a bit more.

I get nervous when they play that way, but it's a question of balance. Yes, they are likely to get caught out from time to time but the advantage is that by drawing in players to press them, it leaves the opponents stretched defensively. You've got to be good to execute the tactic successfully and England were good last night. England have good attacking options down both wings and through the middle. I think it is a good tactic for England but it was a bad tactic for ICT when big Dunc tried it.

I've watched more than I had initially intended and am thoroughly enjoying it. Apart from the Scotland and England games, I have watched the full game of Canada v Bosnia and Netherlands v Japan. As a neutral in those games I was able to just sit back and enjoy game. The key thing to enjoyment is to fully participate in the hydration breaks. drinking06

Now there's something I can get on board with! Indeed, my head this morning is telling me that I did participate quite fully at the pub last night.
