The Butcher Files
4 pointsI don't really understand why people want to know if Butcher did this or did that during his time here because it has gone. Terry Butcher has turned this club into a top six side atm and whatever he was up to behind the scenes he did a brilliant job. Got us back up first time of asking, got the club into the top six for the first time ever, had us looking at Europe rather than a relegation battle and almost got us to a cup final. Butcher has done this club far more good than he did harm but he wasn't perfect and had flaws which many has alluded to over his time with us. I think he did love it here but with his reputation restored he was always going to leave to bigger things at sometime and yes i didn't think it would be Hibs but they are a bigger club with more resources than us and so i don't resent him for that. What i do resent him for is his immediate lack of respect for the club that gave him his redemption and the fans that loved him for taking the club on to a new level. That will always tarnish the good work he did here but does it really matter to find out more of whether he wanted out by applying for loads of jobs. It didn't change what happened in his 4 years and its not going to change anything now as he is well gone. He ruined his own image with his disrespect and that should be that we should move on and enjoy how ironic it is that everything he did and said when he moved have seen him eating those words big time. So well done Terry you may get that success Hibs were wanting by winning promotion in 2 or 3 seasons.4 points

Summer transfer targets
2 pointsIt's excellent we have a settled squad and don"t have to spend the close season searching for half a team as in the past, but a couple of new faces always freshens up a club and builds up excitement amongst fans. The best signings we could make would be Shinnie, Mckay, Meekings etc. on extended deals.2 points

2 pointsRengade you are starting to sound like a bitter ex who heard his girlfriend had been speaking to other lads when she was with you. Time to move on from Butcher who I feel did an excellent job for us during his time here, yes his manner of leaving was very poor and he has paid the price for that. As for the club not informing us if there was a bust up between him and Esson, there won't be a club in the county where those things happen time to time and they are kept where they should be behind closed doors2 points

1 pointHow'd that work out for you, eh Owain? Glad you wanted something different from the SPL - Hibs have delivered that in spades for you next season, Having spoken to OTJ on a few occasions just before he left there was more to his leaving than this usual "New club, new challenge" tripe that is always trotted out. He sat with ICT fans at the semi-final and has a lot of time for our club and fans.1 point

1 pointWhen Fenlon left Hibs they had played 11 games and had 15 points (1.36 points per game) with a goal difference of -2. They were 2 points from 6th place. 27 games later they had gained 20 more points (0.74 points per game) and the goal difference was -20. They were 18 points from 6th place. Extrapolate Butcher's record to a season of 38 games and Hibs would have had 28 points all told. Hope Hibs keep him on just for the entertainment value next season.1 point

Thank goodness some of the people from earlier in this thread aren't scouts after some of the gushing praise over two minutes of footage! One person's "lost for words", another claims he's "amazing"! Holy moly!1 point

Can Yogi maintain our momentum ?
1 pointWe are constantly told it's the "Best League in the world", we are subjected to so much coverage of english football, we are told it's the only league that matters, everything else is just not as good. Some people believe it. I'd rather watch Motherwell v Hibs than Aston Villa v Fulham any day, at least it (may) affects a team I care about. Each to their own I guess.1 point

1 pointThe more I think about what's happened to Hibs since Judas took over the more I cannot believe he's not been sacked. They were a few points away from top 6 when he joined. They ended up getting relegated. They've won 1 game at home all year. The Hibs fans will never be able to forgive or trust him. They've got rid of so many players surely the management team should be replaced too, I just can't see the Hibs fans going back in great numbers while he's there. Better to replace now than a few games into the new season. My guess is it would cost too much to sack him/them. It is indeed a funny old game.1 point

Can Yogi maintain our momentum ?
1 pointIt's not ICT in particular. We have among the cheapest prices out in our league, It's Scottish football as a whole. Trying to convince others it's a big brand elite sport, when really it's a diddy league with fairly poor teams throughout.1 point

1 pointTaking £2 off a ticket doesn't sound much, but it would have reduced the clubs income by somewhere in the region of £130,000 over the season. All rough figures, but to cover that cost, you need to sell between 7500 & 11000 extra tickets over the season (depending on whether it's concession or full price). Which is the equivalent of increasing the average attendance by between 400 & 600. If free tickets aren't adding that many to the gate for a game, then a £2 discount certainly isn't going to do it. Maybe the question is....why aren't season ticket holders making better use of the "bring a friend for free" or "bring a friend for a fiver" type offers? Well, the truth is, they are....but (for the most part) instead of using the offer to bring along someone new, they're using them to get cheap entry for someone who already attends games but isn't a season ticket holder. Is it naive of the club to think that people who intended to attend the game anyway will pay full price when they can get a free/cheap ticket from a season ticket holding friend? Yes, probably. Is it too much to expect (more) season ticket holders to make use of these offers in the manner they are intended by bringing along someone new, someone who perhaps wasn't going to the game anyway...or, even treating someone who can't afford it and may never make any games otherwise? Since these offers have no significant positive impact on attendances and the offers are being taken up, then it would seem it is! So, whilst it's easy to point the finger at the club and say "you should be doing more" (and no doubt there's things they can/will), you have to look to the fans in equal measure and realise/accept that we also have a large part to play....if not directly, then at the very least by not partaking in activities which only serve to negate the efforts of the club.1 point

1 pointCan"t comment on currant players but on the Munro, Duncan and Tokely situation I personally think it was the right decision at the time and the progression of the club since has proved this. Still doesn't stop me laughing at Butcher and Petrie. Butcher in the stand at Easter Road when still our manager has come back on him now.1 point

1 pointI would doubt there would be a clause in his contract which allowed the club to relieve Butcher of his contract so early without compensation in the event of relegation. To sack him and Malpas now will not only cost money which is needed on players but will require a search for a new manager to pick up the poisoned chalice. The irony here is that the type of manager they need in the situation they are in is exactly the type of manager Butcher is. That is someone who can bring in underachieving players on the cheap and realise their potential as part of a team that complement each other's strengths. He did that well here and our drop in form since he left is perhaps a testament to just how good he was at that. At Hibs he has not had a chance to do what he is good at. Appointing Butcher could well have signalled a recognition from Petrie that unless you are a very rich club, you cannot buy success, you have to build it. He would have considered Butcher as a long term appointment. There was always going to be a big clear out of players at Easter Road for Butcher to develop his team with his players. Neither Petrie nor Butcher would have expected relegation but Butcher was always on a hiding to nothing for the rest of this season, after all, if you make it crystal clear that there will be big changes to the playing staff you can hardly expect the players to be particularly motivated. If Petrie can keep faith with Butcher I can see relegation being almost a blessing in disguise for the club. Rebuilding a team rarely brings instant success but you can be sure that had Hibs stayed up there would have been an expectation for Hibs to be top six at least next year with failure to achieve that putting pressure on his position. Down a level gives a better opportunity to rebuild over time. With Both Rangers and Hearts in the mix, not winning promotion next season would not be a disaster but yet after 2 seasons in the championship, Butcher should have been able to produce a strong team that will be a real force in the top flight the following year. Butcher would have that advantage that players are more likely to want to move to Edinburgh than to Inverness and the club will be able to pay more to attract and keep the players Butcher wants. If he can repeat what he has done here but with the added bonus of being able to attract better players, then Hibs could be a pretty formidable team in a couple of years time. The question is whether Petrie has the guts and the patience to give Butcher the chance to do what it was he originally hired him for, or will he take the coward's way out and use Butcher as the scapegoat to appease the anger of the fans.1 point

1 pointJust to clarify my position (to Terry): (pre-Butcher) Ship jumpers: That's life - I've spoken to OTJ since he left, I still think he's a good man, and I likely always will. (post-Butcher) Ship jumpers: Malpas and Marsella - no hard feelings - i hope all goes well for you in the future. (Butcher): If only you'd not been having a jolly with your future employers on 9th November 2013, while pretending you still hadn't decided, I and many others would wish you all the best. However, the reality of what you did that afternoon makes us all rejoice at your current plight. I briefly felt sympathy for you when I saw your picture during the penalties earlier, and then I remembered how you shat on us. South American team to win the World Cup? Argentina for me.1 point

1 pointI had the fortune of watching the highlights without knowing the score! I'm still trying to digest the ramifications of this development! A stunning outcome.... Butcher looked a broken man in his post-match interview! And Petrie looked dismayed, embarrassed and angry. I wonder what he's now thinking re. Terry?! As much as I loved Butcher at Inverness, I feel no pain for his predicament - a situation that's significantly of his own making. Schadenfreud!!! I loved Terry 'talking up' our club, Inverness and the Highlands in general. He was a boon and certainly increased our profile - I'll always be thankful for that. Steve Paterson went to Aberdeen which was utterly gutting but grudgingly forgivable as managing the Dons was a long-held ambition of his. John Robertson went to Hearts - a 'Jambo' legend! Craig Brewster to Dundee United - Huge United icon (at the time!) But Butcher to Hibs? Absolutely no connection! Sheer greed and a misguided perspective of potential success with a club rotten from the core - so no sympathy from me! I wonder if he's got the stomach to carry on? Or, one day, admit he made a big error of judgement. Rumours that he's going to quit will now grow. His managerial career may well now be in tatters. A job-for-life at a progressive club, with a life-style the envy of many. The renewed respect of his work in Inverness from a football community who still found him 'relevant' enough to invite onto network TV England games. Cowdenbeath and Alloa is now the reality for Terry, If he still has a job!1 point
