Yeah.... Good stuff again guys! Sets the scene up nicely for Sunday.# Can I add this alternative preview/prediction unashamedly nicked from P&B? I think a 1-1 draw *may* be on the cards here. Celtic to score early on, via Hooper, then miss a sh1tload of chances. Caley will pass it about nicely without really doing anything in the final third, until the last couple of minutes, when Adam Rooney will score. However, Celtic will complain bitterly about a throw in given erroneosly to Caley six minutes previously, to no avail. Come full time, Neil Lennon will be seen running across the pitch to berate the referee, before being hauled away by at least two Cops, spitting the word "conspiracy ya bass!" in his direction. Minutes later during a TV interview, a clearly seething Lennon will get steadily more angry as the unfortunate reporter asks about Celtic's profligacy in front of goal, rather than the more pressing issue of a country-wide protestant conspiracy against Celtic. Finally, Lennon explodes with rage, banjoing the reporter, then screaming maniacally into the camera "Get THAT fecking story straight you motherfeckers!" before marching off to the Referee's dressing room. Cut to blood curdling screams of terror, as the camera slowly pans to the open dressing room door, to a scene of unimaginable brutality. The referee and the offending Assistant who gave the wrong throw in, lying dismembered in pools of their own blood. Were we really a much smaller report charles? i remember many games at Kingsmills where there was an abundance of jags fans and remember a fair few at telford St where the Howden end was far from full and the canal end was abundant in red and black fans. The original question however about refuseniks makes me think of at least two jags fans who have never watched ICT play and never will (Their loss) no matter how much i try to persuade them? I personally decided away back in 73? or whenever we lost out to Ferranti Thistle later to become Meadowbank later to become livingstone that i would support any inverness team to join the scottish league, Inverness utd or whatever it was decided to be called. We have to see the bigger picture and those that have decided with their small/narrow mindedness not to support a merged team have lost out on a wonderful journey, from beating arbroath in our first league game with Herchy's hat trick to the famous celtic game and the awful game where county humped us. It's been a fantastic journey which many of us could never have imagined back in those days and it's far from finished. This wonderful voyage goes on and on, up and down and hopefully for many many years our children and their children can enjoy the the magic of ICT

It was quite interesting to deabte this one the first four or five... or even six!... times it popped up on this forum. But it's now got quite tedious and I'm not even going to dignify the question with a vote on the poll. But let's look at it this way. After the Howden End and a lot further afield was trawled again and again and again for Caley "anti" sentiment for the 1st December 1993 Rose Street vote, 226 people voted against the merger. This is the biggest anti merger vote that there ever was. We also know that a great number of that 226 subsequently became regular attenders. But let's be conservative and say that half the "NO" voters didn't attend matches. That's 113 and if you make a very generous addition of 87 from the much smaller Thistle support, that get's you to what I suspect is a vastly over generous 200 refuseniks compared with the 1500 or so fans which was the average gate in the early days. 17 years on, a significant proportion of that generous 200 are either dead or have left the area. There MAY be 100 left which out of a core home support of about 3000 is a VERY small price to pay for the formation of a club which represents the whole of Inverness. Had Caley gone alone, I don't think the support would have been anything like as large and the financial backing from the Council and the community and business certainly wouldn't have been.

Rory is quite a sensitive guy. Brewster at times treated him like dirt. Now that his confidence is up and given an increase in his maturity a supportive management team could get great results from him. I have always said Rory has talent. Barrowman is narcisstic and lazy. Rory is neither.He just needs a bit more guidance and development.

At the moment there's about 2" lying in Perth and still snowing. Drumochter is passable, Slochd is fine. Snow forecast to move north but should turn to rain by tomorrow. Dont think there'll be a problem with game.

You were right the first time, Caley is a nickname of Caley Thistle. Yeah i know but DC seemed to think that by sayin Caley i meant Inverness Caledonian. Which was not the case anyhoo, getting off topic. If people are going to argue about a name then perhaps it would be a good idea to start by getting the name of the merged teams right. They were Inverness Thistle FC and Caledonian FC.

I was one off the fans that Lennon "challenged". It was hilarious watching him being dragged away from us by Balde and being thrown on the bus. The guy was a disgrace as a captain and even more of a disgrace as a manager. :irritated:

Pele for me (err, not the Brazilian one). Under Baltacha or some other been there/done it, lower SFL-happy manager, we could easily have become a Stirling Albion, continually rooting around the lower reaches. I think Steve did wonders on local players, cast-offs and inspired punts. On the field, Paterson changed us into something bigger and better than most of us had hoped. Better still, Steve and Jock shaking hands. On and off the field, they gave birth to an ICT team with ambition.

Probably started three or four threads with this title since his departure. Last one, promise. On the mark again with a double against the Perth Saints. Bottom line is I think we got rid of him too early, I think he's more than decent and I'm pretty certain he will be back in the SPL next season. If he does (and I really hope he does) be good to him on his return as a visitor. The fact that we didn't want him isn't his fault and any time I saw him he gave his best (wasn't good enough at times but not through lack of effort) unlike some that seem to be adored in certain quarters. So am I alone in thinking this or was Brew or TB (can't remember who let him go!) right to get rid of him?

Most of the "ample opportunities" he got in the first team, were from coming off the bench - very often, with only a few minutes of a game remaining. Also, for some reason, a sizeable element of our support just never took to him and subjected him to all manner of unnecessary abuse. That for me, was what hastened his departure. He's certainly come on leaps and bounds since joining Brechin, but whether he would be able to cut it at ICT, I doubt if we'll ever know. It's very unlikely he'd want to come back here again.

That's not entirely true , I know loads of fans of Caley and Thistle that would never set foot in TCS .

The solution to this problem is simple. We need to be more streetwise. If you are fouled GO DOWN. If you are recklessly fouled STAY DOWN. If your opponent is on a yellow card PUT HIM UNDER PRESSURE. If your opponent is a hothead WIND HIM UP. Common sense would help our cause.

This subject seems to rear its head now and again so i'd thought it was time to set up a poll so the subject could get put to bed once and for all Its probably more appropriate to older ICT fans but younger fans can join in as they may have fathers/relations etc who were involved with Caledonian Fc or Inverness Thistle at the time of the merger Think it safe to say that we all know that there are fans of the two parent clubs who refused to watch or support ICT in any way but just how many are/were there??? From what I can make out from this forum there are very few Caledonian or Thistle fans on here and the majority seem to be younger fans who have only supported ICT in their life time I've stated before i've experienced hostility from pre-merger fans when the topic ICT is mentioned so I know it exists in our city A few questions to maybe ponder and debate 1. I'm not an expert on the merger as I wasn't in Inverness at the time it happened but would we have a higher average attendance had Caledonian FC gone alone? 2. Buses leave Inverness for Pittodrie,Ibrox and Parkhead every weekend so did numbers dramatically increase on these coaches once both pre-merger clubs ceased to exist? 3. Do any on here personally know any refuseniks and if so are they as anti ICT now or have they mellowed as time goes by? 4.Were any posters on here in the Caley Rebel group? 5.Were and posters on here involved in any of the meetings when the voting on the merger took place and if so what were your memories and recollections? 6. Were you a pro merger or anti-merger voter? No doubt I will get slated yet again for posting this thread but this is by no means a wind up or a fishing trip, its a subject i'm genuinely interested in and to be honest i find the whole subject quite fascinating dougal
