  1. By and large I agree with you, but I think the tactics were decent for today's game. Celtic play a high line, and what we did was to press them right across the midfleld, try to stop them playing and take control of that area, then outpace them when we were in possession. It worked so well that we threw them right off their game and controlled it from about 15 mins in until half time. Warren's glaring chance came from this tactic, as did Roberts' early in the second half. Had Roberts scored that, then I think we'd be talking about a win or at least a draw, as Celtic looked very uncertain until they scored. Unfortunately, once they did, their confidence seemed to grow as rapidly as ours diminished, and they largely strolled the rest of it, although 3-0 wasn't really a fair reflection of the game overall. Long term, though, I think our lack of out-and-out strikers could make the difference between, say, 7th and 4th.

  2. Massive rebuilds work when there's some direction to them. The lower league up and comers that Butcher and Marsella used to scout for example. Some of Yogi's have been like something out of Football Manager! And what about Raven? Pleading for a new deal in the press last month. One of our most reliable and consistent players. Still nothing.

  5. What is the point of trying to have a serious discussion on anything when Charles Bannerman uses every opportunity to highjack topic with his unnaturally obsessive anti SNP drivel. Do you notice Charles nobody else wants to comment. Probably all sick of your p!sh

  6. I've just heard an absolute belter from Sturgeon in defence of the EU - "It's good for independent countries to come together to pool sovereignty...." Wonderful example of oxymoron from the SNP.... and I use the second part of that word advisedly! I just wonder, if the UK polls swing towards "in"... will we see the SNP correspondingly swinging away from same - just to preserve that potential sense of grievance?

  8. Why is it so difficult for the club to actually tell us what's wrong with our injured players? I have found the silence this season bizarre and a little bit insulting. Do any journalists even ask the question of the manager or do they not even know who any of our players are in the first place! Apart from the infamous diving Draper obviously. I get the whole siege mentally everybody hates us but we are the fans and shouldn't be excluded.

  9. I have posted this in the ICT Forum rather than general football as I am delighted to say that national semi finals have become of increasing direct relevance to us in the past few years and, with any luck, could well be again this season. Whilst generally a traditionalist, I think the time has come to consider the semi finals of both the Scottish Cup and the League Cup being switched to two legged affairs. If it's good enough for the Champions League, The Copa del Rey and the English League Cup it could well be good enough for us. I see a number of advantages; Firstly, there is fairness to the club and supporters. In the last three seasons we have been forced to play cup semi finals against clubs in their home cities. It's to our great credit that we won two out of three of these but the fans were still out of pocket, the team disadvantaged and our numbers reduced to about 3,000 albeit 3,000 who made themselves sound like three times as many. This season already, both St Johnstone and County have been obliged to play semi final opponents at 'neutral' venues in their opponent's back yards. I am sure that there will be revenue advantages too, grounds are likely to be full or at least fuller. I know we struggle with crowds but I have little doubt that we would fill the Main and North stands and maybe even the wee West stand for a semi final on our home turf and whoever we play is likely to cram the South Stand for such an occasion. There would be two extra prestigious games to sell to TV and tournament sponsors and the proceeds could, as now, be pooled between all four participants and both TV and sponsors would much prefer full stadia rather than the sight of Hampden barely half full even when Celtic are involved. The final advantage is that the National Stadium would be kept for finals which would make those occasions even more special and unique than they already are.

  10. Speaking of cup formats, a couple of matters have made the news today. The League Cup final will be held in November from next season. I like the idea of this tournament being done and dusted before the proper Cup starts There is talk of scrapping replays in cups. I'd be against this Thoughts? Personally I like the idea of this tournament being done and dusted before the proper Cup starts. But I think cup replays still have an awful lot of merit, as the home side has already had a clear advantage without extending that for another 30 minutes and denying the visitors any chance to then balance it out with home advantage for themselves. Plus, replays have a fair chance of being televised, bringing much needed income to clubs like ICT.

Of course, the inevitable happens, the fire burns a hole in the canoe and it sinks. Which only goes to show - You can't have your kayak and heat it.

  17. Sorry Alex, but the SNP forged the firmest of links between the EU Referendum and a second Scottish one a long time ago, so up here the two have inextricably linked by them, not by me. Hard on the heels of declaring that the outcome of September 2014 settled things for "a generation", they were backtracking furiously and using the possibility of an "IN - OUT" difference as possible grounds to bore the backside off us with another Scottish vote. I can appreciate why any SNP member may not want the two to be linked - until after any "correct" IN-OUT permutation may emerge - but it was you folks who "invaded Poland". In the event of a second Scottish referendum following a "UK out/Scotland in" EU outcome, one would presume that further issued additional to those in 2014 would include - * How happy are you to base your economy on a commodity feverishly promoted by the SNP for decades but which at best is subject to the backside frequently and unpredictably falling out of the price and at worst is getting towards done anyway? * How happy are you for a country which is as independent as EU membership will allow to have its sole land border with a much bigger non-EU market and all the implications that has for customs posts, passport control, trade tariffs, Scots south of the Berwick - Solway line who need benefits..... etc etc? Or will that just be dismissed as Project Fear? Once again I ask.... does the SNP's current position on Europe derive from a fundamentally held viewpoint, or does it represent the best chance they have of creating more dissent?

    • Inverness CT -V- Morton - Preview
Well, where do you start. It was clear from the begining of the season that something was wrong. Poor signings, dismal performances in the League Cup followed by an abysmal start to the League campaign saw Billy Dodds removed from his position after winning one point in the first six Championship fixtures and replaced by a man with no track record as a manager. A sort of publicity stunt if you like. After the initial new manager bounce wore off, we found ourselves little better off with Big Dunc than we were with wee Billy. We did claw ourselves up to the coat tails of others but the most damning part of our season has been our inability to score goals, especially at home. Only already relegated Arbroath are worse than us. Our team is now full of mercenaries, loan players with no affiliation to our Highland pedigree and many fans have tagged us as being the worst squad ever in our short history. Where are the Golabeck's, Tokeley's, Wilson's..... Much of this can be attributed to our lack of financial nous in the boardroom, failed ventures and now the begging bowls are being put in place to save our club. Having drawn at Dunfermline last week thanks to Aribim Pepple's first goal for the club combined with Billy Mckay's penalty miss, it's now out of our own hands. LAST SIX: D L  W W L  D

    • Dunfermline 1-1 Inverness CT - Report
Out of our hands now: It ended in disappointment for the 319 visiting fans with news that Queens Park had hammered Arbroath 0-5. To rub salt into the wounds, Sheridan and Welsh were amongst the scorers. It's out of our hands now, but it's a must win next Friday and hope Queens Park falter.  Inverness play Morton and Queens play Airdrie. A draw might be enough, but it's a long shot.

I'm not convinced that Billy Mckay was the right man to be taking that penalty, his second failure from the spot in successive games against the Pars.

    • Dunfermline Ath -V- Inverness CT - Preview
Aaron Doran looks likely to have pulled on the Caley Jags strip for the last time after limping off against Raith Rovers last Friday. Sean McAllister returning was a bonus though but the mystery deepens as to why Roddy MacGregor, Austin Samuels and Nikola Ujdur are not featuring either on the injury list or the team list. Baffling to be honest as Roddy has the midfield attributes required, Austin has the speed and potential and Nikola in my opinion, if fit, would be my first choice on the team sheet. Are these guys on the way out? Add to that seven or eight loan players, then next season will see a massive restructure and rebuild at the Caledonian Stadium. I imagine the board members are squirming in their seats like Angela van den Bogerd at a Post Office inquiry.

    • Inverness CT 0-1 Raith Rovers - Report
Inverness threatened the Raith goal and but for Kevin Dabrowski and his bar they could have been dead and buried at the interval. No score at the break and all to play for in the second half. Vaughan opened the scoring early in the second half and Samuel almost levelled but his shot from distance cannoned away off the post. The crossbar was hit a further twice but the goal would not come. Despite peppering the Raith goal, MotM Dabrowski would not be beaten with a string of saves ranging from brilliant to miraculous.

    • Inverness CT -V- Raith Rovers - Preview
The great escape coninues on Friday night at the Caledonian Stadium as we host Raith Rovers in a game that will also be screened live on BBC Scotland with Raith trying to cling on to the coat tails of Dundee United and the Caley Jags looking to slither away from the play-off zone. What could possibly go wrong? Savage and Carragher will be joined in the squad by a welcome returnee in Sean McAllister who has returned fit from Everton after about six weeks out. That's a nice wee bonus for Big Dunc. However, he has the wrath from Arbroath after his "tools down" comment in his pre-match interview. As long as he has not got the wrath from Raith. Keep the faith!
