  1. Has the world stopped revolving? A sensible team from Renegade? There is hope after all! (by the way, don't get het up, I'm paying you a compliment) A little bit too attacking for an away game with the Saints far better in attack (especially attack-minded midfielders) for me so I go with: Esson Gattheusi - - - Tokely - - - Mihadjuks - - - Dejbi-Zadi Proctor Kerr - - - Black - - - Vigurs Morais - - - Foran Proctor to cut out the threat of Dorman. A bit risky at the back, with a new right-back and dropping the captain. Vigurs back in a skillful three-man midfield, with a bit of bite. Front two are also fairly mobile and can drop deep under pressure. Imrie to come on and skin them in the last half-hour. Goal threats from the three midfielders from range, plus two finishers up front against a dodgy back four of Saint Mirren (well, a pretty average three of them anyway). If I was Butcher and saw Gattheusi wasn't up to it, then I'd go for our usual 4-4-2, only with Vigurs, i.e.: Esson, Tokely Munro Mihadjuks Djebi-Zadi, Proctor Black Kerr Vigurs, Foran Morais
  2. When Peelie died, my interest in Radio 1 died with him. By the way, some great Peelie (and other stuff like Kershaw, Rock Show (not my scene), John Walters etc) shows up here: http://www.30242.net/
  3. He probably thought McCarthy was the biggest threat, so Duncan was there to nullify him. I remember quite a few of us (including myself) calling for Tokely to be put at centre-back after Dods left. I remember him playing there when we were in, ooh, was it the Second Division? Not sure. But always looked as though that would be a natural position.
  4. It began with the death of John Smith and the appointment of one Anthony Charles Lynton Blair as party leader. I had high hopes that Gordon Brown would bring about a change the direction of the party after Blair's disastrous last few years in office.... I couldn't have been more wrong.... These hopes were very quickly extinguished. I disagree with that. The rot began in the 80s when first Tory then Labour employed spin over substance. The electorate then made their choice that was what they wanted. That's who I blame - the voters. And they are going to do it again. The Tories have profited from Labour's Iraq and Credit Crunch crises despite both parties being of the same mind. Vote for your party as though it was a football team, then there's every chance you'll get a poor result.
  5. Not listened to or seen the match, so can't comment too much, only to say that if we can't beat Hamilton on a dismal run in our backyard, then I fear for our chances. Really, we can only hope the Bairns don't recover any form.
  6. Earlier in the season, I thought of Barrowman as someone who needed service and a not to be used as a target man, then he may start banging them in. But, having seen him when he's had the chance, I just don't think he's got it. Reminds me of Harald Braatbakk (spelling?).
  7. Glancy would run around like the proverbial sapphired-bottom Diptera species but to little effect (just realised how much that sounds like Imrie!)
  8. I doubt it would. Somalians cram in to unseaworthy boats to reach Yemen (YEMEN! - now there's desperation if that's where you're fleeing) as a chance of potentially having a life that's vaguely survivable. Short-term, it has to be military defence. Long term, I'm not too sure what the answer is aside from some miracle that improves the stability in Mogadishu. Sanctions against a bankrupt country would be no use. Invasion by whom? The Western powers would just add to the resentment and only other African powers would probably be of interest in doing so but to what end? There's already a civil war. Would adding a further army unite them?
  9. Yeah, you're right. Millar it is (wrote Wanted that Angelina Jolie starred in for those not in the know). Quite a good story as it happens. But that's Millar for you - either wonderful or mind-numbingly awful (a bit like Grant Morrison - wrote St Swithin's Day and Bible John on one hand and [yeughhhhh] Final Crisis on the other).
  10. Hey Stirling is a nice city, Glasgow City centre and west end is nice. My 3 fav cities/towns in Scotland are: Inverness, Glasgow and Stirling in that order. I have the plesure NOT of working in Coatbridge ....it really makes apreciate my home town of Stirling The latest issue of the Fantastic Four comic (the US not the UK version) has them visiting Scotland and ends with one of the characters saying she's moved to Coatbridge. Lucky girl!
  11. Killie (not far off being a top 6 team IMHO) Saint Mirren (not a great defence but a bit quality going forward) Hamilton (see St Mirren) ICT (just about) Falkirk (that loss to Killie must have had an effect)
  12. Or here's an environmental job in Nigeria - a massive $20,000 a month http://www.minejob.com/job-1233.html Unfortunately, it's a scam! Here's a great website for scam baiters. Basically, they follow up those Nigerian lottery winners emails in order to waste their time, get 'trophies' out of them, such as photographs (preferably doing ridiculous things to 'prove' the mailer is genuine), Western Union home-made security forms ("Is a lube job acceptable as an alternative for payment" or a full page of random number "How many number 6s are there? How many 89s are there?" etc, when there's absolutely hundreds!) and even money (there's a great one where a bunch of scammers got swindled out of $50000 for laptops - they offered to pay for shipping - and got a bunch of broken down washing machines etc etc which weighed a ton). There's also sound files where the scammer leaves a telephone number to 'confirm' they are indeed a bank (and in return get phoned up at 2am their time to order pizza, then an hour later to ask why it hasn't arrived...then the next night for a taxi, Happy Easter, prostitutes etc etc). http://www.419eater.com/
  13. Oops, sorry. Dropped against Coventry. BTW, I knew Gordon had played a couple of games but still not regular.
  14. I'd keep the same team, only drop DZ for Hastings. He's up against McArthur next week. Don't fancy his chances. I'd normally call for Foran up front but I think he can provide a goal threat coming in from the left against McClenahan, although Imrie should drop a bit deeper, so: Esson Tokely - Munro - Mihadjuks - Hastings Proctor - Kerr - Black Imrie - Foran Morais Vigurs definitely on the bench.
  15. More trouble for Burley and Scotland. None of our goalkeepers are playing regular football. Marshall's just been dropped by Coventry.
  16. Bob can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he was denouncing Blair rather than Islam. As for me, I'm surprised at how utterly mad Blair is. I had no idea he was quite so insane when he was in power but he obviously believes he's some sort of messiah figure. Just why he thinks that his foundation is the ideal place to bring faiths together or that someone that failed to check Bush in his giveaway of Palestinian lands (remember the 'situation on the ground' speech?) or the utter destruction of mainly innocents (and the UN - how did Israel get away with bombing that??) in South Lebanon is the right man to be a Middle East envoy is beyond me. Even before the Iraq war, he seemed to believe that he was the one that was going to unite Europe and the US. I seriously think he's lost the plot. As for the whole Islam thing, most Muslim countries are still developing. They tended to lead the world in the Dark->Middle Ages in science and reason (and compassion - no compulsion to switch religions in a real Muslim state*) but swings-and-roundabouts I guess. They stayed still, the West moved on in the Industrial and Democratic revolutions. But what happened when Europe was at the level of many Muslim states? Witch trials, burnings, constant wars. Don't wish to sound like a geek but the Star Trek Prime Directive of non-interference to let a culture develop naturally sounds a good idea. But to do that, a country would have to give up all influence. * and the last thing the extremists, such as the Taleban are, are real Muslims. In fact, Egypt sent over their most eminent scholars before the whole al Quaeda thing surfaced to instruct the Taleban. They ended up having to flee as they were denounced as heretics! Have a look at what the Koran says about covering women. Nothing to do with hiding everything, just covering breasts. The burkha etc developed from living in the desert. Something you can see from the dress of men in the Gulf states.
  17. Use Firefox with AdBlock Plus and FlashBlock and you won't even see any ads.
  18. As a stand-alone I prefer Opera but the Add-Ons makes Firefox unbeatable.
  19. I don't have a problem in taking on the best players from smaller clubs. Tommy McLean did that really well at Motherwell. Whereas they were the best player at their previous club, they became a decent player at 'Well, with some good products of the youth policy.
  20. For me, the jury's still out. The prosecution certainly made their case in no uncertain terms but Burley still has a very good chance of saving himself.
  21. Constantly flicking between the Liverpool/Chelsea and the Saints/Rangers (on Libya Sport) matches*. Still couldn't bring myself to cheer on Rangers. *I think, mmmmmm, maybe the Liverpool match was slightly better football, yeah, I'll stick with that, just had that little something extra
  22. I don't see him as directing any blame at Jade herself. Just stating the facts.
  23. Keep hold of what we've got and we will be ok. That saying, I expect Foran to move on. Possibly Mihadjuks. I could see Morais and Kerr staying. However, if we do keep everyone, then probably 'just' Black to replace. If Saints go down, there's a few there that could be useful - actually I think Mason's contract is ending, so he would do for a start. I've always liked him as a player. Also, Killie could have a firesale. Don't know who we could get at Hamilton (assuming we can't afford McArthur, McCarthy and Offiong) that would improve us, whilst Falkirk's best players are all on their last legs (Pressley, McNamara, Lovell, McCann). Higdon maybe? Surprised how poor Burton O'Brien has been, and Barr. I've heard Rangers might be looking to offload a couple
  24. I meant more Smith is a 'tricky' player, whilst Foster is more powerful. DZ would probably struggle being a bit clumsy. Mind you, one or two 'over the top' tackles could quieten a player like Smith down.
  25. I'd go for (although from Butcher I expect the same team except maybe Esson) Esson Tokely - Mihadjuks - Munro - Hastings Proctor - Black - Kerr - McBain Morais - Foran Aberdeen tend to play down the flanks, with the Mulgrew/Aluko (if he plays on the wing and not as a striker) combination down the left the more dangerous. So, for that reason, I don't think a midfield defender like Duncan is needed. Instead, Proctor and McBain to neutralise the wing threats. Black and Kerr can scrap away in mid, with both Foran and Morais able to drop deep and collect the ball. I'd normally like Imrie in on the left (or Morais) but a point away to a top 4 team will do us just fine. A bit more defensive but still we have goal threats. Hastings in for Djebi-Zadi. If it's going to be Foster on the right-wing, maybe not the right choice but Hastings can still handle him. If it's Jamie Smith, DZ will get skinned, so going for the percentages. Munro still in there but only just.
